That's really the heart and soul of all of Ontario and Québec! All our millions of forested lakes everywhere with summer loons...
You don't even need a map... just take any of the smaller 80km/h two-lane twisty roads out of any city and you'll end up at a giant lake eventually 😊

That must have been wonderful watching and listening to the loons on the lake in the morning. Saw my first loon of the year yesterday- also way out in the middle of a lake.

Nothing better than spending a week at the lake listening to loons! A quintessential Canadian experience. I've been photographing loons for more than 30 years. They are really difficult to photograph from shore because they rarely come where you want them to. Try a canoe. Much more stable than a kayak and a lot less risky when going out with expensive gear (although fishing kayaks work too, but I've never tried one). Position yourself upwind, and just slowly drift past them as you shoot.

Wow, what a bird and I bet you've a vast knowledge of them, I've just purchased a few books on them so I hope to gain some more knowledge of them which may help me get some better images one day. @@RichardBirchettcanoes are really stable platforms for photography although they do take some practice, especially paddling alone. They are not as intuitive as paddling a kayak, but once you get the knack of it, they are a great piece of photography kit. As long as the wind is fairly calm I have no hesitation about taking my gear out in my canoe. Typically, I use my 300mm prime on an APS-C DSLR. I sometimes use my 150-450 but find it harder to hold steady in the moving canoe because it is so much heavier and longer, and I did get some good shots with it earlier this summer. I've not tried to rig up a tripod in my canoe. I am sure it is possible, but probably more trouble than it is worth since it restricts the directions you can shoot from - you never know where birds will pop up, especially if loons are actively hunting. They can stay under for quite a while and cover quite a distance. Very cool to see them pass under the canoe! I keep my gear in a Pelican case when getting in and out of the canoe, just to be safe, but once on the water I keep the camera around my neck, "holstered" in a pouch on the front of my life jacket. That keeps it mostly out of the way while paddling and readily accessible if I see something. I've been fortunate - time, patience, and experience have paid off with some pretty amazing close encounters with loons on the water when I truly felt that they allowed me into their space. Absolutely my favourite bird! Happy hunting!

Loved the video, especially that ending with Henry. That was so cute. Hope you paid him for a cameo appearance. He is also taking after dad with his wonderful photography. And of course Algonquin for Loon is okàdeniganàtig. A moose is Moz and a bear is Makwa. I am sure you will soon see Moz and Makwa.
