Ever since I was a small child I've been enthralled by the music of The Price Is Right, especially what I call the 'Golden Era' (1970's and 1980's).
It holds top tier among the warmest and fuzziest of all things warm and fuzzy in my nostalgic heart. This recently led me down the rabbit hole of trying to find as many pieces of this music as possible and putting them into a collection of sorts, with images from the era completing the visual aesthetic.
The Price is Right uses well over 500 music cues in its lineup. Along with several packages made with the show, other cues from other shows and stock sites are also used. More recently, remixes of old cues are currently used.
Walt Levinsky composed for Score Productions, a well-known production company specializing in TV music. Levinsky is credited on a 1972-1976 album of music cues for The Price is Right, which includes much of the show's music that is still heard today such as the showcase showdown and various car cues. One of those cues, a Nashville Brass-style country music piece, became the theme to Family Feud.
The main theme of The Price Is Right is officially credited to Sheila Cole, even though it was composed and performed by Kalehoff. At the time, Kalehoff was working for Score Productions, under composer Bob Israel. Israel assigned the theme's Broadcast Music, Inc. publishing rights to Mark Goodson, the producer of The Price Is Right, so that Goodson would benefit monetarily. Israel assigned the composer credit to Sheila Cole Israel, his wife, explaining this fiction to Kalehoff as a "technicality." Israel assured Kalehoff that there would be future work with Goodson. This arrangement diverted millions of dollars of residual away from Kalehoff. Kalehoff was named as composer in the closing credits of the television show but he did not appear on the official BMI credits for the song.
Edward Woodley Kalehoff Jr. (born September 1, 1945) is an American television music composer who specializes in compositions for television.
Composer of about 1,000 pieces, mainly for television, his credits include many of the music cues used on The Price Is Right (although the 1972 theme is officially attributed to Sheila Cole and the Nickelodeon game show Double Dare; a music package for ABC Sports that updated and expanded the Monday Night Football theme; the 1991 theme song for Labatt Blue Jays/Expos Baseball on TSN in Canada; music for WNBC-TV's famous 1992 promotional campaign "We're 4 New York"; and many television news music and station image packages used on stations such as WEWS-TV in Cleveland, WJBK-TV in Detroit, and WNYW-TV, WCBS-TV and WNBC-TV in New York City. The NBC Stations package composed in 1995 for WNBC was used by the station until 2003. Due to its long run as the music package for WNBC, it is widely known in the Tri-State Region. His most recent work is the new theme for the PBS NewsHour as part of a new on-air look launched on July 20, 2015.

I was obsessed with this show when I was a little fellow in the late 1970s. I suspect I was entranced by the colors, designs, music, and the fashions worn by the models. Since the end of the 80s, everything in entertainment and fashion has been so drab and dull. Even the cars today all look the same. I can't tell a Cadillac from a Honda any more. I miss the vibrant, bold colors, designs, patterns, and prints of the 70s and 80s.

the early 90s was pretty colorful too, although to be fair the early 90s was still basically the 80s. It wasn't until 1992 or 1993 that things started to become dull.
