Create an Interstellar Black Hole in After Effects

  • This After Effects tutorial uses only the included plugins to create the warp and accretion disc.
    This is a sequel to my earlier tutorial, where I showed how to use Expressions, Mathematics and Bulge to create a black hole similar to Gargantua depicted in Christopher Nolan's movie: Interstellar.
    This tutorial focuses on using the included CC Particle World to generate an accretion disc, then uses Bulge to warp the disc. The leading edge is added back in by using a 3D Luma Matte and finally Glow gets the hyper brightness of the inner disc.

    Dude, I just want to thank you right now. I'm making a video on black holes and I am so happy. I've been searching for many days for a black hole making tutorial. I downloaded blender and everything but none of the tutorials were straightforward enough or provided the file in the description. I appreciate you dearly for this and I'm looking forward to looking at more of your tutorials.

    How do you make it so that the animation starts at the beginning? Real black holes don't just "switch on" like that.

    • @ShiveringCactus
      @ShiveringCactus  Před 2 lety +1

      Good question. I’d probably use the twirly setting in CC Particle World to generate a swirling vortex then time reverse it.

      @@ShiveringCactus I don't know if there's a way to do it with expressions, but I did figure out a solution: First, pre-comp the whole project so you don't have to fiddle with a whole lot of different layers.Next, drag it to the left in the timeline to a point where the fully-formed black hole is at 0. Finally, enable time remapping, extend the precomp to the end of the timeline, and drag the time remapping keyframe to the end.

    If I’m trying to turn up the focal length to make it looks much bigger but the distortion from the black hole disappears. Any suggestions?

    • @ShiveringCactus
      @ShiveringCactus  Před 10 měsíci

      The distortion is managed by distance to the camera. Changing the focal length shouldn’t have altered it, but if the camera is much close than before maybe the distortion is larger than the screen. Try disabling the expression and see if it returns.
