    man this movie really was... something
    i swear its these international movies are always so experimental with their visuals and storytelling lol

    • @secretlybees
      @secretlybees Před 2 lety +93

      Just to share information, the reason behind that actually dates back to old Hollywood. Hollywood movies used to be experimental like foreign films, but then there were restrictions placed on cinema as moral policing. Any character who was deemed "bad" had to be punished in the film (this often happened to LGBT characters). But, the foreign countries didn't have to go by American restrictions.
      Big Hollywood studios basically owned their employees, and they increasingly came about turning a profit instead of creating art. So, they took less risks in what they produced, and their actors weren't allowed to work with anyone else, so they had the draw of being well-known studios as well as having all the famous actors tied to them.
      Today, we're seeing a lot less risk-taking in movies and even more of a focus toward profit. Like, if someone came to executives with a unique idea and the execs decide it's too risky, they get very little funding. The studios won't allow the movie to be made without big-name actors, either. But, the low budget that the film makers are given doesn't allow them to afford big-name actors. And the ones who want to work on it get big film schedules on other, better paying projects, and they're never available to film for the movie. Filmmakers aren't allowed to hire new actors who would be willing to work either, or they won't have funding to make the movie.

    • @secretlybees
      @secretlybees Před 2 lety +9

      @@sofijones5048 look up the "bury your gays" trope and you will find many examples. the punishment was usually lgbt characters dying at the end. the movies/shows don't outright say "you're gay so you are punished" but they just end up dying or often villains (happens with non-villains too) are what's called "queer coded" so they are meant to have "gay" attributes without ever outright coming forward as queer. Queer coded villains are like, Ursula from the Little Mermaid who was based off a drag queen, Cruella DeVil who was based of a lesbian woman, both characters are villains and die at the end.
      Other examples include Lexa from the 100. Apparently there were multiple lgbt characters killed in the Walking Dead.

      The thing is being overweight doesn’t automatically equate to being unhealthy. My personally belief is that being overweight should actually be acceptable and being obese is when people should actively work to stay at what’s healthy for them (obesity tends to be when health problems might arise). The way society is, being fat still isn’t desirable. It will most likely never be desirable as a body type. The difference today is people ate learning that we don’t need to be critical of every person who walks by..it’s none of our business. If someone wants to be skinny and unhealthy that’s a them problem. I’d someone wants to be overweight and unhealthy, it’s a them problem. If someone wants to be obese and unhealthy, that’s a them problem.

It’s said that the appearance of fatness proves that you are eating well,which means that you are wealthy. That’s all I heard of,I just wanted to let people know. Btw your body is just perfect as it is! Don’t care about how people think. Beauty standards goals are almost unreachable. Don’t risk it. There is a person who’ll love you just the way you are. Throughout multiple cultures and points in time beauty is dictated by what the wealthy look and do. Where food is scarce and only the rich can afford enough food to get fat, then fat is popular. Where multiple wives or husbands is a signal of wealth then that is popular, where plastic surgery is sought by the wealthy then that is popular, where the higher class people are lighter skin colour even amongst non-White cultures then the lighter one is the more popular one is, where affording organic food and gym memberships instead of fast food is a sign of wealth then being skinny is popular.
      Every cultural standard is a trend set by the wealthy of the area. Don't ask me for citations, I just brain dumped a bunch of half remembered factoids of aspects of multiple cultures including Africans (skin bleaching, Mauritania's love of fat women, and i forgot where one husband was a sign of poverty, Asians (East like India's caste system and South-East like Korea's plastic surgery and somewhere around there also has skin bleaching) and past European (paintings of fat women)

      Many cultures revered fat body types when good food was hard to come by, it makes sense that in cultures now where food is abundant that being thin is a show of self control and eating good foods is more popular. It’s not a matter of fat phobia it’s a reflection of the amount of food present in a community

    • @rosaliehawthorn
      @rosaliehawthorn Před rokem +3

      @@futuristicgirl14 fat phobia is a thing though. Discriminating against someone because of their weight is very common. Calling people cows and lazy tubs of lard because they’re fat is fatphobia. Fat does not equal lazy. Fat does not equal lack of self control.
      I eat one meal a day. I’m still fat. I primarily eat chicken and rice and vegetables and fruits, but I’m still fat. I spend every day working towards losing weight, but I’m still fat. Being fat doesn’t mean I’m lazy or lack self control. Struggling every day and crying myself to sleep over how challenging it is to try to lose weight is not lazy.
      Society just perpetuates the idea that being fat is a moral failing, which it isn’t. Having extra fat doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or you’re lazy. Bodies are neutral. They hold no moral value. They are merely vessels. The way someone’s body looks is not a reflection of their mind.
