The fact that the virtual afterlife will have micro transactions is probably the most relatable and depressing thing about this.

The fact that they don't allow them to work is moronic from a business perspective people could have jobs in the simulation if it was imperative that they work an entire virtual economy could be created to be exploited why wouldn't they do that? Probably because this show is not very well thought out and the creators didn't realize there's already virtual worlds in reality where people work for virtual currency and can trade it in for real world money. It's called second life.

There are obvious downsides and upsides with this if it ever became a reality. The worst parts are:
Other people can see your version of “heaven”, access your memories (basically an internet history you can’t delete), and you basically gain immortality against your own will and left to be controlled by other people.
As for the actual movie, I think that the ending left too much to interpret, we can only assume the worst happened to him.

honestly, listening to mystery recap is better then watching the actual thing.
Its the video version of "cliff notes". Most movies are generic and its easier to get the simple plot here but the show is SO GOOD that you really need to SEE IT TRUST ME.

It depends on the movie. Some are better when it is recapped, and some are better when it's fully watched.
I couldn't finish the video because of how angry I was that they killed him and stripped away his own life. He was still breathing and responding to them when he "had to sign the contract", so there was absolutely no way they couldn't have treated his wounds.
They can create a sub conscious afterlife for eternity and can’t heal some wounds? Stupid.

Interesting concept. Good for making people think about the value of themselves and others. If we get to the point where you can easily be duplicated like that, you could be copied over and over, reset, modified, etc like any other set of data. It would be interesting to do with important people. Just bring up a copy of any dead celebrity you want to talk to, get advice or lessons from, "adult encounters", resolve lingering resentment toward parents, etc....
I love VR. It's an awesome way to connect and socialize with people all over the world, or bring you to places you could never visit in real life. But imo there should always be a distinction between VR and real life. Some things just can't be replaced. Real life should always come first.
It's sick. A complete perversion of the order of things - humanity should never have such power because like everything; the moment the human factor is added, everything falls into disorder.

The show runs with the (implicit) premise that you cannot copy a person, and if you want to go to a different afterlife provider you need to physically transfer /the/ storage device for some reason (don't lose it).

This movie is fictional in the context of after life, but nowadays, in real life, people pay with a virtual money to buy virtual things and get happy, people create virtual profiles and boost their personality with virtual likes, friends, comments etc. Eventually, one can download the full virtual profile and archive, or even sell it. Is not this crazy?

@@user-nf1bz3sn4z there's a novel called my iyashikei game where there's a VR game that showed a perfect life, but what was actually behind it was like a world where ghosts would reside (and most had a lot of grudges since they'd been victims of murders or stuff like that).
Its a good story. Loved the show. As usual well narrated.

The series overall look so interesting and a bit thrilling but to be honest while watching this movie recap, I felt anxiety because of the idea of putting your consciousness into a computer. It may sound crazy but I like the natural death now.

If we could do this in reality it would have to be a full transfer. You'd have to find a way to integrate mind and machine so that the memories are transferred and not just copied because a copy would not be you.

If this were real, there is no way it would be voluntary. Every government in the world would make sure to "upload" all minds, for national security of course.
The Season 4 episode of Doctor Who "Forest of the Dead" had a very similar concept to that of Upload which The Doctor uploads River Song's data ghost in a simulation in a library mainframe computer which she reunites with other deceased team members.
