    Just to note, do not spray anything on that spring, do not touch anything on that spring. I've heard of people using water to clean them or sensor safe cleaner. There's a procedure to get the IAC valve in the right position while installing or you run the risk of damaging the spring/pintle when screwing it back in.

    This video is really well done. My 88 k5 blazer has always struggled at idle (sputters but never stalls) and my research lead me to your video. Gonna get this part and see if it fixes it.
    Oh and 1a Auto is great.

    1990 5.7 pickup. Mine runs like a top until it gets up to temperature. Stalls at red light, even in neutral if I don’t feather the pedal.
    I changed plugs, cap, rotor, coil, IAC valve, fuel filter, no better. The only thing that helped at all, was to give it a couple degrees of timing. And when I checked it, the mark was bouncing all over the place. The distributor has 500,000 miles on it( yes I said that correctly), so the gear is prolly shot. Ordered a whole distributor, pop that in there one of these days and see.

    Thanks much for the video! I am going to tackle this project tomorrow morning. I also have a 1979 Blazer with the same idle problems. Is the remedy the same. Both 350 5.7 ?

    how to relearn after installing the IAC, First you need to cause the Air Idle Control (AIC) to extend its pintal to the max position. You do this by shorting pin A of the ALDL connector under the dash to Pin B of the same connector (do a "google" search for GM +Trouble codes). Turn the ignition to run, but don't start the engine. When you do this, listen closely to the AIC on the throttle body and you will hear "ticking"; this is the motor extending the pintal. Wait 30-40 secs, then without turning the key off, pull the electrical connector off of the AIC.
    Start the engine. It should now be at the lowest possible idle.

      Coolant temp sensor. It's on the front of the engine, up top. Two wires coming out of the plug.

    The Idle Air Valve can be clean. Just use air to dry it after you clean it.

    If you have a very slight idle movement and your engine has over 100-150k miles on it. Change out those two injectors with some ACDelco replacements. Smoothed my already decent idle to damn near perfect. Now i have a looping idle on hot restarts only. Got to be sensor related as it runs and drives fine and only acts up once you warm it up and park it for 5-30 minutes and go to restart it. Loops a bit wildly while in park but once it's in gear it clears up soon.

      Did you ever figure out the looping idle? I have the same issue, been fighting it for 2 years and can’t figure it out. My truck once got, on a restart after sitting for about 4 to 15 mins. When restarting, it will start and go to 1200 rpm’s then idle down to around 650 then it will hunt for idle, bouncing from 400 to 1,000 rpm’s. Will do this for about 90 seconds to 1 minute and 20 second then be like I’m good, and find idle. If ac is turned on, it will smooth out quickly. No vac leaks, iac has been replaced twice, fuel injectors are new, throttle body gasket is new and sealed. Throttle body is clean. Throttle position sensor is set 0.58 to 4.95 volts. New plug wires, new distributor, new spark plug wires, spark plugs. Also replace coolant temp sensor for ecm on top of engine. Replaced iac plug and coolant temp plug on top of engine. Ignition control module was also replace. Timing is a little avanced at 2 degrees, which is where it’s been since owning the truck. I also replaced the oxygen sensor. I am super puzzled on this, something is telling the computer to do it. I preformed the iac relearn procedure I found online. I’m going to replace the tps next as it is the orginal. I’m kind of thinking it could be a knock sensor or bad computer. It’s just so consistent. Need help. Read thread online and no one has a fix. Just part swap and no fixes. Wiring is all good. Have 203,000 miles now. Issue started around 163,000. 94 Chevy k1500 tbi, It may of happened after replacing injectors so I took them back to Autozone and got free ones to try. Issue still remained, could also be the brand of the injectors

      My injectors were replace 3 years ago and I just put new ones in last month. Not sure when the issue started.

      Fuel pressure regulator also was replaced, and truck has new fuel pump due to it failing. It happened before the new fuel pump. Also has new fuel filter

      @@Bryan-oc5fk I just replaced my coolant temp sensor for the ECM and it's smoothed the random idle looping out partly, not fully. Seems like some of the sensors getting replaced have some effect but I couldn't guarantee anything for anyone. I'm thinking it might be valve related but it's winter and I don't want to mess with that right now lol

    • @Bryan-oc5fk
      @Bryan-oc5fk Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks, for your looping idle, it could be possible that you have a bad throttle body gasket. But when mine went, I would get a check engine light in park and it was high idle. But you would have to be sitting in the truck watching it to catch it come on and go back off. Egr valve will throw a check engine light on the interstate at a steady speed. You may want to check your pvc valve to make sure it rattles freely. Other than that 02 sensor will make it idle smoother. Do not get a bosh. Get a NTK. You will have to heat it with a blow torch around the insert, and use a pipe wrench to get it to bust loose. Easiest way I found. The tool for it was opening up making it slip. And if you decide on your throttle body gasket, there’s two diffrent ones. Open center or closed between the two intake holes. The way you tell, where the iac port comes in to the injector opens on the bottom, If there is a Channel split, you need the closed gasket. If it’s an open channel, you need the open gasket between the two intake ports
