- We thought we would try something a little different we decided to have a mega ship battle. The first rounds consisted of smaller ships attacking one much larger one followed up with a battle of two titans.

Space Engineer is like a mixture between Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program. The game is in pre-alpha and will be released on steam at some point in the future.
The main purpose of the game seems to be building a space fleet and fight/ally with the other factions. You build your ships piece by piece and the only know limit for the size of your ship is what you computer can handle. - Hry

Lime Twist Animations Now that I have the game, I am slightly saddened. It's not nearly as good as I expected. Still, It's fun designing kinetic missiles. Last I checked I have made the best one on the workshop, which is cool.

WOW THATS GREAT!!! I was wondering what their intentions for this game would be, and this is a good one.
I think you guys should try a match with one team building unmanned drones piloted from a control ship and the other team building a base. The goal of the match should be to breach the base with grinder/suicide drones, enter with with drones 1st then rifles to kill/capture the base defenders. The defenders could have both interior and exterior turrets that are manually operated. That would be a cool match to watch.

Wasn't so much a battle as it was a lag-fest and greifing contest. Perhaps you should set up two ships either side of a totally blank map and just set three players per ship or something, setting the game mode to survival to add a concept of ammo conservation. The strikes on a larger target with smaller craft was neat though.

Interesting to think this is what space combat would actually look like. Not quite as dramatic as in the movies, but the principle of engagement looks solid.
I've joined a fight between two mega carriers and over 100 players, each manning small cruisers, fighters, turrets, and boarding capsules. This game matches movie expectations at least for me. (Except for the two hours corralling all 184 players onto organized teams and battle stations, as well as weeding out the trolls from actual players. :P)

You should have 4 teams (each team having 1-4 people 1 pilot, 3 gunmen) and each team got one large ship and you duke it out! That would awesome!

There's something I've been meaning to ask for a short while now:
When it comes to the larger armaments of a warship, ie turrets and missiles, is it actually possible to make them automated like a smaller gatling gun turret?
I'm asking this because I'm trying to develop a massive Battleship armed with cannons using rocket launchers, much like the one seen firing at 6:47 but slightly smaller.

I feel like bigger ships in this game need to be more like Battlestars in battlestar galactica... Slow, really well armored, with tons of firepower and acts as support fire for smaller ships.

I wouldn't call the Snapping Turtle a mega ship, let alone a titan o.O
The Snapping Turtle is of a size I'd personally call a 'large ship'. They're ships that are about as small as you can get them if you still wanted some comfortable sense of interior space.
Things like the stock red and blue ships and the stock respawn ships are what I'd call 'compact large ships'. They've got all that's necessary to live on, but they're cramped and vulnerable.
A 'mega ship' is something much larger. A mega ship would be the kind of ship that's big enough to support large crews and they would have to have multiple purposes; serve as a platform for several operations. They'd have large enough crew quarters to man every system; a hangar for small and perhaps large ships (not just fighters, also personnel carriers, supply ships and personal transports); multiple medical rooms, several individually armoured reactor rooms; a full, multi-system conveyor network; layers of armour; a central command hub and several smaller peripheral command hubs; escape systems; space-walking access hatches for exterior maintenance; exterior and interior armouring (amount of layers depending on importance of protected rooms); segmented interiors that can be sealed to prevent depressurisation in case of hull breach; redundancy in all systems and multiple ways to move about the ship; enough storage for supplying long-term in-space travel and internal refineries and assemblers; public observation decks and recreational areas; not just a messhall but a small commercial area where things like clothes, food and other useful things are sold; and so on and so forth, plus all of it would have to be big enough to not feel cramped and maze-like.
Basically a 'mega ship' is a small city with a specific purpose (be it military, industrial or civilian; transport, ship-carrying or production). It has to have all useful systems, but scaled depending on purpose (and the carried ships changed based on purpose as well).
'Titans' are... well I've not seen a real titan in SE yet. Something I'd consider a titan would be big enough to fulfill all 'mega ship' purposes in one and carry all the crew and supplies necessary to basically remain isolated from civilisation indefinitely. A mobile space station so big that you'd have to wait 10 years for a computer powerful enough to be able to load the thing and not crash or tank the fps down to

You guys need to learn how to use Remote Controls, Cameras, and passenger seats! This would enable you to sit around and fight all day inside a heavy armor capsule instead of running around :)
You should set up two large ships (No Weapons) that have a set amount of small ship drones and fight with them.
Someday I want to see a massive fleet battle.

Awesome vid, the only thing i am wondering about is, how you got those turrets to work.
When I am sitting in a turret and anyone else is controlling the ship, the turret is absolutely not moveable. Any thoughts on why this happens?

Please, tell me, how do you keep your framerate so smooth with ships like these? I have up to date hardware, and multiplayer is such a lagfest...
What hardware do you have, maybe overclocking? Also turning down the graphic settings may help. A universe with no planets may also help.
