This was a fun project - putting each Euro sword maker into a tier ranking list. This list is my opinion only! My opinions can change, and I might see about doing this each year.
Other reviewers have plans to release their own tier lists, and I will link them below as they post those videos.

Great list. Someone in SBG was just trying to put together a Tier list, too, and missed a bunch (though you caught one they missed...Swordier...very interested in seeing someone review one of their Euros or even their katanas). Kovex Ars, Fabri Armorum, Wulflund were a couple that popped out at me as missing.
Thanks for the additions. I'm going to put a pinned comment that I'll update with missed manufacturers.
Honestly, I'd 99% agree with your list..nice one
Great video! Some surprises on there for sure.
Thanks! Wouldn't be an interesting video if there's not at least a few hot takes.
YES! What a great video! I wish more sword reviers made this kind of video! It helps so much. Thank you!!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I own two Incarius Craft swords: a type xviiic made a year and a half ago, and a messer made last October. The xviiic is decent, a little floppy, and you're right about the thin handles. But I do have to say, that messer is one slick piece of work.
I've definitely been tempted by some of the messer's he's posted. They look very nice.
Darkwood is the gold standard for SCA Rapier fencing... which isn't HEMA, but more sport fencing, but they work really well in that niche.
Windlass seems like a company that could hire a QC team and work with design consultants as they did with Matt Easton and raise their level. The difference between their best work and their average is huge.
Some extra QC on their part would be greatly welcome, by me at least. It would likely increase the prices of their swords though, and that might impact their regular customers's willingness to buy.
Great list!
I only disagree with a few, and only by a little.
If this list includes 19th Century Euros, maybe consider adding Empire Costume just to warn folks away.
After you mentioned Rob Miller I checked into him. I didn't know he was also Rob 'the Baron" Miller from the Crust Punk band Amebix. Although I'm into Punk I really never listened to them however as Punk is a humanitarian left wing etiology this seemed odd. But I found this info: A few years ago Rob Miller joined a band called Tau Cross.
The band in question was/is a bit of an underground supergroup whose members have a collective history in several bands. Rob “The Baron” Miller, whose former band Amebix is legendary in crust-punk and underground metal circles is their head songwriter.
Amebix itself emerged from the ’80s Bristol squatter scene and had lyrics and imagery that reflected both interest in the occult and revolutionary politics, with the anarchist mantra “No Gods No Masters” frequenting lyrics and band T-shirts. Radically minded fans of the band championed what they felt were shared anti-authoritarian ideals, and saw Amebix as one of their own ilk.
Given this legacy, it came as a very rude shock for many fans The Baron’s current band Tau Cross were suddenly dropped from Relapse Records for one simple reason: Holocaust denial.
It's clear Rob "The Baron" Miller's politics have slid down the slippery slope of conspiracy into the abyss of Holocaust denial; assuming he wasn't a secret racist for years.
I really enjoyed your takes and mostly I agree, however I was surprised that you were willing to put companies like darksword armory in F while having very limited experience with them. Where you would not put a company in S if you only have limited experience. While I wouldn’t put DSA higher than a C myself I feel it is unfair to put it so low based on the experience you stated. That’s just a thought.
@rigelbleskan1205 That is a legitimate point that I did not think of. I will certainly take it into advisement if I do another one of these! Thanks for pointing it out.
Very eloquent. Although we use different methods to rank makers, I agree with everything you described about each maker there.
Thank you for having the standards to put Holocaust deniers in F tier. There are so many hardworking manufacturers who aren't in denial, no reason to buy from haters.
mass producing manufacturers mixed up with one person swordmakers who create pieсes of art
not good
I would never recommend Art of sword making if you are looking for similar measurmens that you require. When I ordered a sword from him it came to thin, too floppy but with a lot of weight. The maker will decieve you and say that everything is going to be as expected, but it really won't. Plus it was more dull than my butter knife. And I aked for a sharp version
I'm sorry to hear that. 😔 My commission with him is supposedly all but done. I'm hoping it'll be everything I asked for.
Look nearly no one supports holocaust deniers but its not fair as a sword reviewer to take anything into consideration other than the swords produced. James Brown beat his wife like a drum but his music is damn good. Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist and admitted wife beater, his record in the ring however rates him as one of the best heavy weights of all time. You get where this is going, to rate an artist you have to rate the art not the man. You should put Castle Keep in NA. (again I am NOT condoning castle keeps views.)
Obviously, I disagree. To me, the art is inextricably tied to the artist. This is my subjective ranking, and to me, his swords can never justify any price. I wouldn't own one if somebody paid me to do so. That is why I think he is the exception to the rule and belongs in F.
Just my opinion, of course. Everybody is free to have their own.
