Fun fact, before precision was a standalone turbo manufacturer, they got their start, copying and improving upon Garrett designs with licensing contracts. In the beginning, precision turbos didn't generally actually have a precision logo, and since they bought surplus Garrett parts, a lot of original precision turbos actually have Garrett housings, wheels and center sections, with Garrett approved modifications, to make their own Turbo combinations. Sometimes just mix matching different Garrett compressor wheels and center shaft/turbine wheels, to create unique turbo sizes Garrett didn't offer at the time.

If it takes two guys to put a starter bolt in or an alternator bolt for that matter come on now. No Ace mechanic there. Not dissing the channel but. Some of you people that make comments are ridiculous. Know what you're watching they're not very mechanically inclined but they have a lot of money.
@@ericempson2498 did u 4get about the complete r+i along with total rebuild of the cl65 twin turbo V12. No mechanic without proper training and a great knowledge of automotive engines would never have been able to do that job and do it right more importantly. I own a cl65 with the v12 also (that's how I found this channel) and have been a auto tech 23 years. I have first hand knowledge of how intricate and complicated working on those cars is. Peter i can't speak on with certainty but his attitude is a great addition 2 the channel. But as far as Alex goes he is definitely a top notch technician not just a mechanic. And as far as the bolt thing u mentioned sometimes it's just easier having a helping hand around so u don't have 2 bust ur own chops. Not tryin 2 b a jerk 2 u but I very rarely find guys I feel r real competent technicians especially on here. And when I do see one I feel a obligation 2 stand up for a fellow tech that I feel deserves it

As someone with ITP I knew the answer since mine are checked weekly.

@M W my son has had two boughts of ITP as an auto-imune response to viral infections (way before Covid), each resolved in 13 months. It's certainly a scary condition to have to live with and hope you dont bleed out from something like biting your tounge. I hope your platlet counts stay high and you don't have to take too many steroids or get too many infusions to keep them that way!

To be precise: there is fibrinogen that polymerizes into fibrine-strands once activated by 1 or more of 17 different types of catalyst-enzymes (coagulation factors) that can detect leaky blood-vessels each in their own way. The fibrine strands create a leaking mesh over the wound. Then that mesh gets clogged up with filler substances like platelets.
I guess you take a pea-size amount of coagulation factors to mix with a golfbal-size amount fibrinogen ?!?

26:00 Tip for installing the star washer on the fuel pump sock. Use a small 1/4" drive socket that just fits over the center pin and give it a solid tap with a small hammer.

I am not really a car guy, more a motorcycle person. I also don't like cleaning and detailing myself. But Alex shows his love for what he does, and that is contagious. That is why I come here. To see his joy and love for what he does. That, and Peter ;-)
I worked at a Buick dealership back in the day and we would get these cars right off the truck with 10 or 12 miles on them and race them down the highway, I can still remember that slight hesitation before the turbo kicked in,what great cars, still one of my favorite cars of all time

I drove my dads all the time as a teenager 20 years ago and took a bit to get used to the way they build into boost and delay on roasting the tires after smashing the gas. I was a very lucky kid and it was the car that got me into cars as a youngin. Cheers to your adventures with yours , love the content!

It's the Platelets, or thrombocytes, which are small and colourless cell fragments in our blood that forms clots and stop or prevent bleeding. I think it took your body a bit long to clot up a quite small area so anyone with similar lengthy blood clotting problems should: eat more leafy greens, eat more fatty fish, avoid alcohol, eat more citrus and consume more iron-rich foods! Awesome video guys cheers.

I find in winter that dry skin from the low humidity can break open fairly spontaneously when you move your hand a certain way, like gripping a steering wheel or shifter.

Set the TPS voltage at .42 and the IAC counts to around 25 or less (both readings go hand in hand so adjust one then adjust the other until they're both in spec) and a scanmaster or powerlogger would be helpful in the future. Nice project! It's come a long way. 10.8 at WOT is a good AFR btw.

Platelets help the blood clot to stop bleeding. if you've taken a lot of aspirin or IB you might have thinned your blood to keep it from clotting as fast.
Love this car - you absolutely SCORED when you bought this one. I fell in love with this car back when I was competing with car stereos in the early 90's and Richard Clark's Buick was dominating the pro class. Loved these cars ever since!
I remember his car being at a Circuit City competition in Tennessee, one of my 1st shows I attended it was beautiful!

Unfortunately, pictures just don't do everything justice. I heard that car's sound quality was near perfect.
You literally have like 3 or 4 of my dream cars. Love the channel on how its all things we can do at home and not all ridiculously expensive. On the GN build you should please do a b4 & after dyno test.
At around 26:00 on those star shaped clips, I've always found that using a nutdriver or socket on an extension that's bigger than the shaft, but smaller than the outside of the clip works pretty well. I've also stuck a small magnet to the tool to keep the clip from falling when it was in a tight area.

Love the GN. I have a Typhoon and it runs 22 psi on E85 and 18 psi on Premium. That car is going to be fun with 15 to 20 psi.
When I was a senior in high school my dad worked in the development department at GM in Flint, MI and he brought a Grand National home for me to drive around for the weekend. That thing was stupid fast for the late 80's (and compared to my '77 Chevette). He also brought an '87 Corvette home one weekend. Good times back then!!!

Started watching you years ago and I am so glad your channel kept growing. Peter is a great addition as well 👏. Man that grand national brings back good memories. That was my dream car going up. I remember going to see it at my local Pontiac/Buick dealership and just staring at it. Back then they were asking 28 000$ Canadian for one. I remember thinking that was crazy. But it would have been a great investment.
Alex, adjust that TPS soon or you can mess up that engine fast. Once you mess with those throttle set screws you need to check your volts on that TPS.
I had idle issues with my ‘91 ZR-1, which appears to have the same TPS, and like TS said, you need to put a voltmeter to it and adjust it that way. I found the voltage value in my service manual which was set at .54 V with key on engine off. Not sure if GN is the same.
I've genuinely never looked forward to anybody video drops than yours Alex, Peter and matt. Yes, I follow other channels and yes they range from DIY home builds cooking, van life, travel, but I will say hand on heart that your channel is informative, uplifting, positive and just a dummys guide on car care for us idiots (us means me) and (idiot also means me) absolutely wholesome guys
Hey guys, love the channel and love the gn. I've owned two of them in the past. One with a similar combination to what you have there but with a stock block. With some 104 octane unleaded in the tank and about 18 lbs of boost, that car would run 11.60's all day long on drag radials. Doesn't take much to make these cars fast. With the front sway bar end links unhooked, it would almost pull the wheels off the ground. Launched off the Boost gauge. Brake pedal to the floor and 6 lb of boost and let it fly.
You can probably use a small socket to press on that little star shaped retainer. Puts even pressure all around, too
Edit: sprinkle sugar on your cut. It'll stop the bleeding and clot
nice wound lifehack. my mom used to sprinkle cinnamon for the same coagulating effect, but it left a darkened scar. Sugar seems like a better solution

I had an'87 and when you have full boost these are so much fun. Easily do huge burnouts and when it hits 2nd gear my tires broke loose as well.hadto be real careful in rain or the rear would slide outfrom behind very quickly
You should look into dry ice blasting for the underside and engine. It does a remarkable job of cleaning
Love the grand national. Wish I had one. My father handed down to me a 79 Buick regal limited as my first car and drove it till it couldn't any more. Wish the best of luck to you. And can't wait to see more to what you do to it.
Painting the frame rails is something I would do. Doesn't need much skill or money and makes a big difference in the looks of the vehicle. Done it several times on pickups.

****When you do the Front Brake Upgrade, if you're going the budget route that is, maybe look into the Blazer Brake swap. It utilizes the 2WD Chevy Blazer Knuckle with sealed bearings as well as the much larger dual piston calipers and it is DIRECT BOLT IN. All the components, aside from knuckles, can be had right off Rock Auto down to the bolts. 👍👍👍 I performed this in an evening on my protouring 1987 Monte Carlo SS.
Cool. I'm very interested in watching the brake upgrade. I don't generally think any vehicle has good enough brakes straight from the factory.
The license plates are from 1976. They were the bicentennial plates. Note the 4 stars, which were for the 4 different countries that parts of Michigan were part of during its history. Very cool plates
Had an 86 with T-tops and it was a blast to own one! So cool to see you found one and are having fun with it 👍 if it suddenly looses power always check your plumbing on the intake and intercooler.. they sometimes come apart under the pressure if you beat on it.. you should be seeing 18-21 psi on the boost.. bury that gas pedal in the floor! 😁

Car sounds great! I remember messing with those TPS sensors all the time back in the day. Half a volt or .5-.9 volts max at closed throttle, ahhhh memories, haha.

Blood: platelets make it coagulate, and back in the day there were styptic pencils to stop bleeding when you cut yourself shaving. I get bad hangnails (dry cuticle ends) that will bleed when messed with too much. Great to see & hear the classic Grand National, glad you found this one!

High idling could for so many different things. When my is200 was idling high, I got so frustrated because I was losing a lot of gas as well until once day (after being inspired by Alex and Peter), I bought some tools and worked on my own car. three of my six spark plugs were totaled and there wasn't any combustion in three of the chambers so when I replaced them with some brand-new iridium high performance spark plugs, the idle just got so smooth I could've melted and I'm literally going over two (2) weeks on tank of gas. You help me figure things out all the time guys, Love your content.

Hi Alex, arguably one of the best epoxides, quick fixes and a happy ending. The GN is cool, need to work on the exhaust tho, (sound like a revved up Lawn-Tractor now). I know you guys will get it right!
Regarding the little clip on the filter sock. I would have thought a 6mm socket would have just pushed over the top of that. Nice and simple with no messing around with the sidecutters.
I'm reliving my youth with you guys and this car, I had a 88 5.0 Mustang GT and I could never out run a Grand National. I always wanted one of those cars.

Hi Fellas, This project means allot to me, I've followed it from your purchase, because I'm running a 2003 3800sc out of a Bonneville SSei, which is one of the up-graded 3.8's from the Grand National engine, rated at 240hp but closer to 250hp. I've put a 3.4" SC pulley and cooler plugs, and she is putting out around 300+hp in my "86 Fiero GT, a 2700-lb award wining custom sports car. I've up-graded the suspension, and call her my "quasi super car!" She is an auto-cross demon, and tons of fun on winding mountain roads...! I would love to have a Grand National, so I'll be following along with your restoration vicariously, just so you know. I am an 80-year old gear head, so this is from my generation. I have built many custom and hot-rod cars in the late 60's and early to mid 70's. I love and honor what your are doing with your Grand National, and what you are doing to restore her to her former glory, and even better. Thank you so much!

My uncle used to make Mark Jackson intercoolers for Grand Nationals. He was like the Buick Whisperer. There is nothing he can't do to those cars. His street driven GN was the fastest street car I've every driven and it looked bone stock. These cars have always held a place in my heart cause of being in elementary school and getting to ride in one all the time at grandma and grandpa's.
I love the headliner sitting on your head. My headliner in my 95' Powerstroke has a bubble that bugs the crap out of me. Lol! You got super lucky finding that car, very rare.

I missed a bit of info in my previous comment. Back in 1986 or 1987 I had the privilege of driving a new Grand National that was owned by a mutual friend of my best friend. That was an awesome experience. You didn't have to accelerate much at all before the rear tires just wanted to spin. Looking back, it's a wonder the owner left a teenager (me) drive such a great car. I'm 53 now and I wish I had the opportunity to drive that car again. I'm interested in watching this one get transformed. Thanks.
I had to change a fuel line on my truck one cold 25 degree portland oregon morning. I didnt time it, but I was pretty fast. My hands were pretty frozen by the time it was done, and it seemed like it took 5 years, but was probably less than 5 minutes.

That's a stock intercooler with a Duttwieler big neck. It's a solid setup, if outdated. It will work into the 10s, I've been there and done that.
My 87 GN was the same way with the fuel system. And #5 exhaust lobe was wiped clean off at 39,000 miles. It sat in a field for 20 years and had a .22 bullet stuck in the passenger rear quarter. Funnest car i owned. It was an astro roof car as well.

A friend of mine bought one brand new in 87 in think. What a blast to drive. In the winter he put studded snow tires on it. On dry pavement the spark show was very impressive! We also upped the boost and and changed out the performance chips! I miss that car!
Kenne Bell was the chip I put in mine in 1988. Also took off the CAT and put a replacement pipe in. Had to slip the CAT back in every two years for emission testing in order to get a plate for it. For a street driven car, it made a big difference for very little cost. Remember this was way before the internet where you could find and learn almost anything.
I normally have zero interest in old GM cars, but I'm really enjoying this series. 👍

To help you in the future get your hands on Brown butcher's paper. The paper has a chemical that is used in the making of the paper that you can put on your to quickly help your blood coagulate to stop the bleeding. It will not harm you. But you need to not pull the paper off the wound or you will open it bag up. Let it dry out and fall off on its own. (Actually Brown paper bags are made the same way so find a fairly clean bag to set aside for emergencies. My father who was an Electrical Engineer and worked outside some times would make sure he had brown paper near where he could grab it quickly. He used this technique to stop the blood flow from cuts all his life and taught it to me. (I am 73.) ( When he would cut himself shaving with a blade you would see little patches of brown paper all over his face. Safer then Kleenex because you could give yourself an infection with Kleenex.)

I love it when someone takes something many people wouldn't bother with, maybe even send it to the junker, and makes it work again, and does the job right. I have never done it with the a car but have with some old Lionel locomotives I have.
There was a remark about despite all of the power car has, Buick installed drum brakes on the rear. Will they be replaced with disks in the future, maybe during the frame up restoration?
you got the sock Securing clip upside down if you hold it up parrellel it is slightly tilted bend in one direction that faces up so easy on Hard off !
