I actually moved here in my early 20s and spent 25 years here, left in my mid 40s. Lived in TX, FL, CA, AZ and WA. I grew up in NYC. Now in my late 40s, I returned for the culture, ease of life, living in the Bay and walking proximity to everything. I could not replicate my high compensation elsewhere and the city is amazing if you are educated as it is the most educated city in the US with low crime, and a relatively high standard of living. Great if you work in the trades, finance, tech, education, or healthcare. However if you don't have the ability to make good $ it's not for you. It's very expensive but so worth it. Traffic is definitely Boston’s biggest hang up, it’s brutal and relentless. I know it too well, I drove a bus for the MBTA known as the “T” for 24 years, retired almost 4 years ago and don’t miss dealing with that traffic one bit.
The cost of living is worse than the traffic imo. I can deal with traffic or taking the train if i have to but the cost of living is just straight up inexcusable

Just a little FYI... The "pyramid" looking thing you saw was the Bunker Hill Monument. It was the site of one of the first major battles (The Battle of Bunker Hill) between the Red Coats and Patriots in the American Revolutionary War.
Before the Big Dig traffic was a horrible nightmare. After the Big Dig, still a horrible nightmare. Boston just flat out ran out of room to do anything long ago.
Traffic is NOT the worst thing about Massachusetts. I was born and raised in Florida but i UNFORTUNATELY live in Massachusetts now. These people have NO manners. The people are the WORST..they are EXTREMELY rude. Boston was named #1 in the US for the rudest people with NO manners
Oh,I am from Saint Petersburg, Russia….if you only know which traffic we have , especially in Sunday, all people back from country houses. It worse than in The Boston, believe me
THE biggest civil works project in US history (over $13 Bil when finally finished) is what you two were stuck in traffic on: the Central Artery Project, or colloquially known as "The Big Dig". The Big Dig ironically was supposed to alleviate brutal traffic from its transport predecessor, and as with most political promises, it has largely failed to alleviate traffic gridlock.
It might be bad (at times) - but it was a lot worse a few decades ago. BTW - you think what you filmed is bad traffic??? Most of it were clips of being stopped at red lights. LOL. The highway shots were slow, but OK. Welcome to the Northeast - the oldest and most densely populated part of the United States.
This is my life. 😂 NYC is bad but at least the roads make sense. Boston be sending you in loops if you don't know what you doing. A 10 mile drive can take you an hour on a bad day.
I spent a few times in Boston. I shopped around with my family and tried the clam chowder or chowduh hnown as. We went past the building Cheers was filmed at, pretty awesome then! You should return to New England. So pretty in the 🍁 fall! Theres nothing like it!
What does skyline have to do with quality of life? Skyline means absolutely ZERO. Maybe it's nice to look at from outside the city, but who cares? Boston has some tall buildings. The tallest in New England, but it also works very diligently not to overdo it and keep them in a relatively tight area. Boston doesn't want to be a city of dark windy channels and any large building goes through a very strict vetting process as to it's effects on neighborhoods, sunlight and such. Keep your skyscrapers - and focus on quality of life at ground level - which Boston has in spades.
Who cares about a skyline? Skylines might be interesting from a distance, but people don't live their lives in a skyline. Some of the most beautiful cities on the planet have virtually no skyline - Paris, Venice, Rome . . . .
