Just a little info for you that may help (coming from the crafting side of things). There is an 'ink' pad you can get which is a colourless embossing ink, Versamark is one of them. It has two properties, being sticky. First, it is good to prime your stamp with it as it makes the actual colour ink you are using stick to the stamp better. The second, if you use the clear sticky ink to stamp with, you can buy embossing powders in various colours. You sprinkle those on the ink, tip off the excess and heat it with a craft embossing tool and it melts it into place. (Like a heat gun but not as hot).

Stamps work better if you add Eva Foam between the rubber and the wooden handle, that makes a cushion so they press and stamp more evenly, give it a try!

If you were to engrave one end (not reversed) on the handle then attach the reverse cut stamp on the other end. This does require a bigger handle.
Align the image orientation so when you go to pick the stamp out of a bunch of them you know what you’re looking for and what orientation to use it.
Just a suggestion for crafters that use stamps.

Rich, about a year and a half ago I made a wooden seal for my daughter. The trick there is to make the negative a little bigger than the positive image so when you emboss the paper it doesn't just punch a hole in it.
By the way, wood block printing has been around for centuries. I have seen a lot of wooden type in my life. Most of it being large letters. But now we have the technology to make the wooden type much easier, don't we?
You are correct about it being better than rubber.
No doubt about it, it was a fun video that certainly will give folks more ideas of what they can do with their lasers.

Sometimes having a backing that has "a little give" helps with the ink being laid down.. not a full emboss.. but ya always can do that too.
      - Or without "ink" you can do a Blind Emboss. (and if you make another positive stamp that offsets into the negative stamp you already made.. it does a nice emboss job - even custom napkins.
      - Or spray it with Crisco Oil or even "Its NOT BUTTER" spray, and you can make a WAX SEAL on an old school envelope.
      - OR if you have freshly Poured SOAP.. you can make a SOAP MOLD emboss for custom soap.

Wood block printing has been around for at least 1300 years. But carving a wooden block with a laser sure makes it a lot easier. You might want to experiment with making some larger art prints. The wood grain adds an "old-fashioned look" to a print that may otherwise look a little too sterile using more modern printing methods, embosses the image into the paper, and makes each print unique. You can buy or make a block printer fairly easily. It's another potential business opportunity for laser owners.

Current equivalent is linoleum block printing. Did some carving of that years ago. This is a great opportunity with a laser!
(The ink goes into the engraved part, the surface is wiped off, and paper pressed against it to pull ink out of the etched part. the characteristics from old wood block printing is from the ink in the wood being pulled int9 the paper.)
