- Tommy Emmanuel plays an original 1960 Gibson Les Paul known as the "Blessing Burst" while Kenny Vaughan plays a 1965 Gibson Barney Kessel.

Another fantastic moment in the life of my 1960 Les Paul "Blessing" that is going to be sold by Carter Vintage and all proceeds going to Homes For Or Troops. And this was a complete "off the top of their heads" musical moment ...pure magic by these two musical giants. Thank you Tommy and Kenny for adding your great talent to our efforts with Blessing.

Exactly, 100%. I roll my eyes at 1) the distorted mess you mentioned, and 2) people that comment on a video like this ^ and say "WTF, you bring out a burst and don't let the player 'crank it?'" or "that sound has no 'balls'". Never mind that the Les Paul was meant to be and was played (by the man himself) JUST LIKE THIS. This was excellent, which is why I tend to prefer the Carter videos to the Emerald videos. The amp does not need to be dimed and the strings hit with pick-splitting ferocity to show what a guitar sounds like. If anything, it has the opposite effect. Rant over.
@@maxpeck4154 I agree 100 percent, emerald burst videos sound horrible, im sure its the way it was recorded but man it sounded like a fizzy ice mess. I love driven and distorted tones, but i am a sucker for cleans and the way les himself played it. Les pauls are great for cleans and im tired of the basic LP distorted and strat cleans, both can do them well and sound great, not better/worse be a voice on their own.
Hell yes! Les Paul clean or edge of breakup is such a killer tone. There are so many LP demo videos that are just a farty fizzy mess or Slash wannabe tones
always easier when players of tommy and kenny level play.....

I have long admired Kenny Vaughn [I thought his version of El Paso with Marty (Stuart) & crew was a very respectable version of the Grady Martin classic]. O how nice to see and hear Kenny playing the Barney Kessel -- excellent. I used to watch the syndicated Steve Allen TV show with West Coaster Barney Kessel playing his signature axe in the house band. Tommy is right at the top of my list, in large part because of the fun he's having playing. Would love to see him get together with Bill Frisell.
