Mr. Les Claypool, slapping that bass like it owes him money.
This is one of the best comments I have seen in a while! *smack* LOL
He's actually tapping in this song.
lol well said ... i would add that Larry Lalond has the worst gig in the guitar biz; a constant discontorted solo without end... he's amazing!!! Cheers
AB-SO-FRIGGIN-LOUTELY
Les Claypool slapped the bass all the way across the sea of cheese while drinking tales from the punch bowl!
Brad laughing and Lex frowning in confusion, it's usually the other way around. 😂
Exactly, I think we finally found a band Brad likes and lex doesn't instead of the other way around :))
lol. Facts
That could all change if they play Mr Krinkle...
I’ve been listening to them review a bunch today, and watching this was hilarious. Lex is usually hyped, and she was so confused
I love how in this one Brad immediately gets it but Lex isn’t too sure 😄
It's a great reversal from the usual!
Sooooo true!!! Usually brad frustrates the hell out of me, but I was pretty proud of him on this one!
This is the attitude Brad needs to bring to Yes.
If you watch South Park, that’s probably where you’ve heard that “odd” sound from. Les Claypool does the theme song for the show.
I haven't seen it in a while but grew up watching it. That's probably it!!
@@BradAndLex This song was also in one of the Tony Hawk games as well.
@@BradAndLex Listen to Lacquer Head by Primus it's one of their best. Try to watch the live performance from the Family Values tour (amazing!) but watch the official video if you can't watch the live show. Les Claypool plays bass like a beast! Nobody better ☺
Fun fact, the music heard at the end credits is the same music as in the intro but my understanding is they sped up the recording for the main intro theme. So the end credit music is at normal speed.
@@Billinois78 Ahh, I did not know that. Well here’s a fun fact about this song. The break in the middle where you hear “Dog will hunt!” It sounds like Les Claypool, but it’s actually not. It’s Choptop Bill Mosely from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Yea, I know, that’s some real useless horror geek trivia there lol.
Les Claypool is the man!! Try "Winona's Big Brown Beaver" .
they will have a lot of fun with the lyrics on that one.
Will do!!
@@BradAndLex the beaver !!!!
@@BradAndLex Go with 'American Life' at Bonnaroo 2011. All their stuff is a bit odd, but seeing them live is best for new listeners. They are just as good or better live than on the albums.
@@RyanAcidhedzMurphy I wish I could like this comment 1000 times!
Primus are about as unique as it gets. They do lean heavy on humor and irreverance but there's more substance to the lyrics than you might think. This whole album (Sailing the Seas of Cheese) is excellent.
You know how many people compare primus to the bloodhound gang... too many they are unique but not alone in their sound/style
Bloodhound gang????
They are two completely different things.
I'm so confused.
Not even in the same ball park
@@noraa1991 bloodhound gang are good at what they do, but they're to primus what limp bizkit is to rage against the machine.
@@noraa1991 i have NEVER EVER heard people compare them to bloodhound gang..
is there even a connection? if anything i would say primus and ween.. but bloodhound gang has absolutely nothing on those two bands.
Ah Lex... The tables have turned. You look confused af while Brad's up in here like "Yo, I get it"
haha this is exactly what I thought. This was fun to watch, Primus are a lot to get your head around at first.
There's every subgenre of music imaginable, then...
There's Primus.
It's the best hillbilly funk metal I've ever heard.
Only band with it's own MP3 genre tag! (fact!)
Primus is unique
If their sound sounds familiar, they do the South Park intro
Tony hawk too?
I was just fixing to say the same thing, but you beat me to it. LOL!
And robot chicken
An in joke amongst the band and their fans is to sarcastically say, "Primus sucks". 👍🏽😁
Most people say it non sarcastically though.
Primus Sucks.
lol I didn't know that, but it's a brilliant way of making it work to their favor :P
Yeah, "Primus sucks" is the chant for all Primus fans.
Hardly anyone in the world ever says it non-sarcastically, but if they do they're falling for the joke.
One things for sure. Nobody ever says "Yeah, they sort of sound like Primus" becasue nobody does.
A heavy band that's got Lex beat. Brad seemed straight in on it. First time I heard Primus I was 'yep all in'
Fun trivia: After Cliff died, when Metallica was auditioning new bass players, Les Claypool tried out and they rejected him, saying he was too good. :D
It's a good thing that happened tbh... Otherwise we may have never gotten Primus and their amazing songs/style
And Les Says it's cause they couldn't control him. Which after how they treated Jason, tracks
Plus he wanted to play Funk and the Isley Brothers not Metal. He went to high school with Kirk
He also went to high school with Kirk Hammet
Lex had read so many Primus sucks comments before they reacted to this during a livestream, she didn't know what to think. After Brad got her to loosen up, (that was funny), the shock seemed to slowly fade away.
Out of everything I imagined Brad might get that click from, Primus wasn't even on my list 😅
You should check out 'Three Little Pigs' by Green Jelly
Lex's description of the song and classic cars is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard... Brad got a kick out that too lol.
Brad had this right after the 1st pause, "this is a fun song, joke song, don't take it too seriously." Music videos, if record label will allow, have a good way of showing that.
Among the most sarcastic of bands. Clutch too for that matter, both incredibly skilled and hilarious
Actually the song is a juxtaposition between the character of Jerry, who is based on a guy Les knew from high school that would drive at high speed through parking lots full of kids just because he could. And the character of Captain Pearce who is a responsible, and dependable. Jerry dies because of he irresponsible behavior, Captain Pearce is forced to retire despite still feeling like he has more to give.
Yeah, but Brad has to have his lyrics...
Primus's whole thing is being weird strange avant-garde. They're actually all technically masterful players at their instruments. Lers guitar solos for example sound all crazy but it actually takes skill and excellent music theory knowledge to hit every wrong note on purpose and make it sound cool.
Yea Claypool's influence on musicians cannot be understated. Great musicians don't always make pop/mainstream appeal music heh
Yeah Ler was taught guitar lessons by Joe Satriani, who while being quite famous himself, also taught Kirk Hammett and Steve Vai.. it takes a lot of skill to play poorly so well. He played a little less weird with his death metal band before joining Primus, so you can see his skill a little better there, but how can anyone not just play wacky weirdness when trying to keep up with Colonel Claypool? Even Buckethead had to get pretty out there(even for him!) just to keep up, while not stepping all over Les' Hendrixian ability to be the whole band on 1 instrument all at once.. Ler barely plays much at all in this song, as it's 90% Les on the bass, and Ler is just accenting it for the most part, even if most 1st time listeners have no idea that the riff is all one guy on the bass, with the single note guitar line on top, and not a sparse bassline with 2 guitar players over top.. that's the beauty of Les' style.. he doesn't really need accompaniment to be awesome, he just needs you to not drown out his brilliance 🤘
Thanks for getting to Primus. They are a crazy and unique sounding band, but incredible musicians. Their songs are mostly kind of tongue-in-cheek, jokey with a dark edge, but the music is legit complex and innovative
Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver is a great one. Les Claypool is an animal on bass.
Was about to say the same thing. The music video is ridiculous.
We'll check it out. Thanks!!
Follow that with My Name Is Mud!
Need to do Blue collar tweeters!
Blue collar tweekers
If you know anything about playing the bass, then you know how damn good Les is.
I don't know anything about playing bass guitar but I still recognize how damned good Les Claypool is.
Slapping, popping, strumming, picking, and tapping a fretless 6 string bass while singing. Damn amazing is what he is!
Les Claypool the Picasso of bass.
@@jhamler1 Me too man. Other than slapping, picking and tapping, I have no idea about tecniques used in bass, but still I think Claypool sounds different and awesome.
@@randall4402 have you ever seen his bass with no body that he plays like a cello with a bow? So strange but awesome
Primus are like living cartoon characters. Try a few more and if they don’t grab you they aren’t going to. I love this band. Try Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver, My Name Is Mud, Mr. Krinkle, Tommy The Cat, or Laquerhead
Mr Krinkle for sure, love that song.
Laqure Head for sure 🤘❤️🤘
😂🤣😂We got to get more Primus!..😎
Great review you two ,first time I seen Brad's head
moving an Lex's not so much!..😂🤣
Finally!! Primus is a whole nother level of musical insanity! Enjoy!
I wonder if they'll get to the Butthole Surfers...
Another Primus song Brad might recognize is John The Fisherman
Brad, you totally hit it on the head! Primus is a fun band and they are very different. Imagine if you mixed Jazz and Metal, that’s Primus.
this drummer, Tim Alexander, is the reason why i learned to play the drums. my favorite band since 1995!
Les Claypool (the singer/bassist) is a strange, quirky fellow who is regularly touted as the best bassist alive. Their music is odd and fun, but the absolute best way to experience it is live in a small venue. I know a few people who weren’t fans, but left the show stunned and excited.
Victor Wooten might have something to say about that 😉… but for real Les is a monster.
Nowhere near the best alive 🤣
@@David-yp9ou lol I mean, that’s a little harsh. Victor, Geddy, JPJ is still alive, and there are some insane metal bassists… but he’s definitely in the conversation. Wouldn’t call Les the best, but he’s definitely top tier.
@@Polyphemus89 I rate him obviously. Anyone denying his ability is either trolling or deaf, but I don't think he is anywhere near the best alive but that's the beauty of music.
@@David-yp9ou no I get you, and totally agree, the beauty of music is that it’s universal but also different for every person. I just think saying he’s “nowhere near” is harsh. I couldn’t think of maybe ten or so I would put above him in terms of skill and body of work, so saying he isn’t even close considering the millions of bassists out there seems harsh.
Les Claypool is one of the best bass players of all time, they are story tellers with tones of musical talent.
Agree- tons of tones.
Primus is incredible. They are touring now and doing a Rush album during the 2nd set from top to bottom.
Caught it in June, amazing show.
This was a fun reaction. It's interesting because from what I've seen on this channel Lex usually tends to be a little more open to the more 'out there' stuff but this time it seems like it kind of 'clicked' with Brad from the get go and Lex just seems a little disturbed by the whole thing. Had a good time watching this one. Love Primus btw, I'd be interested to see more.
I never would have guessed that Primus was gonna make Brad laugh, I just saw him looking confused in my mind XD
Primus is an acquired taste. You're either gonna love em or hate em.
But since it's an acquired taste... The more you listen to them, the more you like them.
Primus is an acquired taste. If you don’t like them,.acquire some taste
I would not say that every Primus song is a joke song, I would say every Primus song is very fun. Very fun
Hahahahaha! What an amazing analogy! “It was like a classic car that you love the sound of but technically it need some work.”
Tommy the Cat is without question the Primus song you should hear next.
Another fun fact: the guitarist in Primus, Larry LaLonde was the guitarist for thrash/proto death metal band, Possessed, and was on their seminal album 7 Churches.
I could be wrong,I said Lalonde was playing that style before Tom Morello
He also took lessons from Joe Satriani who also produced that album.
Brads expression when he goes from saying its a fun song to hearing about Jerry wrapping around a telephone pole.
The quirkiness of the groove is what makes it so oddly heavy. Another group to do this, as an example, was 70s funk band Parliament Funkadelc. Totally different type of music though, obviously.
I guess we finally found Brad's jam. You're in for a long ride if you keep going.
Church!
Too many puppies, mr Krinkle, John the fisherman,my name is mud, definitely all great Primus songs. Les Claypool is one of the best bass players of all time
Too many puh, puh, puh puppies!
I love "southbound pachyderm"
"Blue collar tweekers" and "Harold of the rocks" but it's impossible to rate them PRIMUS SUCKS
I know from watching the live streams you guys sometimes debate watching official videos or not. With this band I HIGHLY suggest watching the videos. Their live performance and/or the official videos add to the experience for sure with them.
You guys are pure gold lol.. I mean you to already know how to give good reaction videos, but to see brads initial reaction to this and then lexs later on.. just 👌
Primus is odd, and they have one of the best 3-piece bands of all time. Please check out "My Name Is Mudd", "Too Many Puppies", or "American Life"?
Omg yes, American life.
Very underrated, I used to rewind my tape to hear that'n over and over
I love the look on your faces they're totally unique band I seen them at Harpo's in Detroit in the 90s excellent show
I saw Primus in 1992 when they were the warmup band for Rush. They were amazing!!! Love that y'all try and are open to do many genres of music!
lol I love that this is cracking Brad up. At this point, I never know what reaction to expect from either one of you on any band!
Your reaction is friggin priceless
Listen to Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweakers, Southbound Pachyderm, or Lacquer Head
Les Claypool is one of those most influential bassists ever. Primus' sound is completely unique, and definitely requires a bit of practice hah. Think of it as more of an experience with a story lol. The way the bass and drums work in and around each other is unmatched.
Oh no, you didn't...but you DID. Primus is a must. There is nothing like them..."Southbound Pachyderm," "Too Many Puppies," "My Name is Mud" Quirkly.
jon the fisherman
SOME OF MY FAVS
DOUBLE CROWN FOR YOU
BOTTOMS UP 🥃 🥃 👹👹
And Tommy the Cat!
I love my name is mud. also from the same album I also really like "Bob" one of my fave primus songs
Haha! These were priceless reactions. Reminds me of when I first saw the video in ‘92.
Shaking hands with Beef is a dope jam. Love Primus, their drummer is so underrated and deserves more recognition.
Primus is just different. Not for everyone. They are a true jam band, and they're an extremily technical and talented trio.
Keep listening. They have A LOT of material to hear!
You gotta watch them live, Primus phenomenal musicianship with inane lyrics, check out Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers.
Great track
“It all works well together …quirkly.”
And welcome to Primus.
One of my fave bands ever. When I want to time warp to the awesome 90’s, this is one fast way to get there.
Just seen Primus last week and they sound better than ever. Les and his many projects are among my favorite. Hope you guys do more Primus they’re their own genre for sure.
You guys are definitely revisiting them for sure, trust me. Watching your reactions was priceless, kinda what I expected but not really hahahahahahaha
I was smiling all along XD
One of my Favorite Bands to Skate to !! Been skating for 22 years now, and they are Easily one of my most played bands !
Southbound Pachyderm!!
Saw Primus with my son and husband who are both bass players; great concert! Les Claypool is an amazing bass player!
I think you might need to watch a live performance. Primus is odd, but Les Claypool is a genius on the bass. It is something else to witness it.
Les Claypool is a musical genius, most of is work is composing for t.v. and movies.
Les is possibly the single greatest bass player ever...Insane to see live! Also the "Primus Sucks" is something the crowds do, it's actually meant as a compliment
Haha "it's like backwards music" I missed that the first time I watched this. I absolutely love that description of this style. Also, God bless the swipe to text function.
Finally we get to one of my favorites! Brad, you hit the nail on the head right away. They are serious musicians who make some bomb-ass silly music. There were references made to the guitar being pushed back in the mix and that's because Les Claypool is just that good that he can play frontman and do vocals while playing some stellar bass. Gotta check out My Name is Mud, Too Many Puppies, and Shake Hands with Beef
Pork Soda and Sailing the Seas of Cheese are the titles of early Primus albums. That might give you a clue to their musical sensibilities. Curious to see that I n a reversal of typical reactions, Brad instantly likes it and Lex isn’t sure what to think. Check out Iowan Gal.
If you played tony hawks skateboarding then you’ve definitely heard this
Love how Brad is "it's just a fun song" - spot on!
One of the best live bands I’ve seen. I love the early 90s stuff.
Primus is such an underrated, under appreciated band…Les Claypool is a bass god.
And for the record “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver” might not of been the best song to be introduced to Primus.
Check out
Wynona’s big brown beaver
My name is mud
John the fisherman
Mr Krinkle
Shake hands with beef
Hamburger train
Tommy the cat
Too many puppies
Frizzle fry
Fisticuffs
Live version of “tommy the cat” is my absolute favorite
Really need to be seen live to be fully appreciated. Very odd and quirky band for sure, but brilliant musicians. Who never, ever took themselves too seriously.
You must see these guys perform any of their songs live... it adds a completely additional dimension.
You said “quirkily.” Love it.
Do more Primus. You’ll have fun.
I've heard this a million times thanks to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
I'm interested how this goes. Claypool is a bad ass on bass but these guys are eccentric.
This band is incredible live. One of my top 5 for sure!
These guys are.....OUT THERE! But, they are incredibly talented, just listen to how technical they are.
Great reaction, Lex's expression was classic! LOL. I would suggest Tommy the Cat next... but be forewarned (Brad), don't try and make out the lyrics. Just groove. =)
Tommy the cat is my name and I say unto the.... Hey baby.
@@willcherry9029 bip doo doodly doo da doo
Wynonas big brown beaver
What an amazing reaction! This was so fun to watch. React to more weird music! More Primus, Mr. Bungle, Captain Beefheart, Tom Waits...
I loved that shared look after it ended. Years ago I watched the movie Buffalo 66 in a theater with my dad, right after it came out, first time for both of us. Afterward we shared basically that same look, both floored by this odd, remarkable movie we just shared. It's such a great feeling. I love when art truly surprises you.
Love me some Primus! It doesn’t get any less weird if you two keep checking them out
Need to do "DMV" or "toys go winding down" or even "John the fisherman" or even better "over the falls"
by the way... cool fun fact... Primus made the South Park theme song.
Over the falls gets me everytime simply badass, and I can't even tell you why just is
Primus is like a food you have never had before and your pallet is still trying to figure out what you're consuming. Can't wait for you guys to take another bite.
P.S. Primus sucks
HAHA I love watching people discover Primus. They always look so shook :)
I’m going to send the remainder of my days trying to get you two to listen to more Primus. “Primus Sux”
WOOHOOO Finally... This is your best reaction yet. Lex was speechless. Classic.
I love this group. Their videos are amazing.
Brad: "I don't know anything about Primus." should have been your tease.
I find it completely odd lex is bugging out a bit but ole boy is on point.
‘My name is mud’ is one of their heavy headbangers, a def must!
I didn’t think Brad would like this and I love it ❤️
YES! Hope you get round to Those Damn Blue Collar Tweakers and Shake Hands With Beef.
Primus' best song is Laquer Head in my opinion.
I described going to a Primus concert like this: I didn’t go to see them. They ALLOWED me to come see their show. 🤯❤️
I think watching a live performance might have made this more fun. The stage presence is huge.
Primus Sucks!
Only a Primus fan will get this!! Thanks!
Primus sucks
Three instruments all playing there own rhythm, and if taken each on their own sound crazy but together they make magic. This is Primus
This song is different but amazing! I wouldn't expect much of a different response from y'all hearing it for the first time! It's a fun song!
I love the swap of expressions as soon as the lyrics reveal that Jerry maybe wasn't having such a fun time after all lmao. Brad sudden change from smiling to serious absolutely got me, holy moly.
Brad's reaction to Primus is the same as mine, they make me really really happy. Silly, weird, funky...just very good
Hope to see you two react to more Primus, one of the most unique bands out there. 'American Life' and 'Southbound Pachyderm' are a couple of my personal favorites, though the entire catalog is amazing.
Tommy the cat by primus!
This was the best to watch, yalls laughter was great!
BTW I absolutely love your reaction to this one!!!! Hilarious. Primus is definitely a genre of their own. Listen to some more!!!
