To be honest, this is kinda better than my phone. It's more compact, and you don't have to worry about dropping it and breaking it. It may not be able to do everything, but it has the basics. This is what a phone should be in my opinion, not too complicated and easy to use.

Can't argue with you there... personally I've been using an Alcatel Pixi 4 as everyday smartphone, it's not top spec by any means but it blows this 3310 wannabe out of the water in every way you can imagine. I paid less than 50 euro for it, new.

Really, other than the jack and camera, the external design should've been exactly the same, a 3310 with a colour screen, they could've used the extra bulk space to put a bigger battery and use thicker plastic to keep it tough, it would be the ultimate indestructible and long battery life phone, even non fans would buy it just for those 2 features.

Well, i dont remember the original having a 3,5mm jack, i think it had a slot for a smaller jack that was used for hands free or something, but dont quote me on that, i've never used anything other than the charger.

Internet on the small screen is definitely a better choice than 2Mpix camera. You are more prone to use internet on a daily basis (e.g. when you are on bus) than taking photos. Simple news websites on the small screen aren't that problematic.

It looks hideous. More old school look would have been better. If it actually is tough phone, then thats good but somehow I doubt that too. Battery life could be good since it doesnt have wifi or even 3g.
I imagined that it would have been old 3310 with a little bit more modern hardware, good batterylife and water resistance. That could have been perfect workers phone. Also maybe 3g to check some simple things from internet very quick.
My 65 years old father finally switched to a touch phone. That's the point when i say dumb phones era is over :) And for toughness and battery...we got him a xiaomi redmi 3s, pretty cheap, already dropped it twice on concrete and tiles, battery lasts between 17-20 days for him. Hard to sell the 3310 unless it costs 20$.
Yes, Redmi 3 and Redmi 3s have a large battery that can last nearly 2 weeks as long as the user doesn't play games or watch videos.

Toughness? Check how the original looked like. It was possible for it to fall on an user replaceable front cover, but very unlikely to fall on the screen.
New 3310: You only remove the back cover. It is pretty easy for it to fall on its screen shattering it.
Se speak about much time standby and how much talk time. The problem is: With any kind of data connection it is lower than talk time on feature phones. If you keep a phone offline, without GPS, turned off screen, no music, no Bluetooth, etc. it is easy to achieve long battery life. But most people don't turn off data connection for a reason.
Back then original 3310 was compatible with most modern standards for data and you had access to information designed for mobile users, and when others expected to reach you in a way, its limit didn't stop them. A phone is a communication device, and the new 3310 is limited in communication features (VoIP, instant messaging, etc) and if you fix some of this limit with software its battery won't last much.
For this price you can get toughphones with more resilience, more features and more battery life.
In a world of iPhone 7 and Samsung S7, this is the cheapest device everyone are really excited for.

Eh... The original had about 5 hours of talk time and 60 hours of standby.
I used to turn mine off when I was at home, since people would just call me through the house line, so it wasn't that bad, but I still had to recharge once every 1 or 2 wèeks.
