This is our pinch roller design for de-hulling rice and other grains. We show how to make the rollers from wood and cover them with urethane sheeting. It can be powered by hand, bike or motor as long as the roller speed is kept at 400 rpm or lower

I designed a machine just like yours but intended to shell melon seed, egusi and the like, with it.I planned to use a cable under tension tangent to the two rollers on the exit side.Like i said mine is still on paper.I like the tension mecanism. Good job.

@14:35 and following: Cutting the ends of the urethane sheeting "on the bias" - say, 45 degrees, rather than square to the width of the strip - might hold up better and be less abrupt as the rollers are turned against each other. Sanding drums/sleeves are often made this way. Also, a strong contact cement (Barge is a common brand name in the US, used in commercial shoe repair and the like) might stick the urethane strips down to the rollers pretty well, but still be removable when the sheeting needs to be replaced.
I am entertaining building a small grain dehuller for Duborskian rice, a dry land rice which reputedly grows well in northern temperate climates.

i don't know the torgue but a 1/4 hp dc motor with speed control worked easily, the ac motors were either 1/2 or 1 hp,

Hi. Is the urethane sheeting harder than ABS or PVC pipe? Could this grind flour if the wheels were closer? Thanks!

I don’t know if I already responded to this note. The urethane sheeting is not as hard. Pvc pipe is too hard just like steel. 90 durometer works best

I think wheat is easy to dehull and is too soft for pinch rollers

The list of materials except for the urethane sheeting is on the web site and in other videos. The urethane sheeting was purchased from McMaster Carr, 1/16 inch thick 90A durometer. I'll have a video with this unit attached to a bike next week. Hulling rice by hand is very tiring but with a bike one could hull rice for an hour or more.
