Fun fact: Neil deGrasse Tyson said in an interview once that if ERB had asked him, he would have done his own cameo in this video!
link pls
cool! what interview?
I bet Tyson would do it, he’s that kind of fun guy, while I am bigger fan of Newton, Weird Al and Creationism I respect him for making astronomy and other sciences approachable
ERB has said, they will not allow an actual person to play themselves in a battle
@@txaggievet I didn't know that...thanks for posting! Apparently Nice Peter did say in episode 5 of his podcast that Neil had told him he would have done it though.
In the second half of his life Newton was looking for the "Philosopher's stone". That's the Harry Potter business.
Nice, I didnt make that connection.
Came here to post this, Newton was into alchemy
@@millermbe Yep, was all about transmutation. Question 30 from Opticks III:
Are not gross Bodies and Light convertible into one another, and may not Bodies receive much of their activity from the Particles of Light which enter their Composition?
That's coz Alchemy hasn't been replaced by Chemistry yet and Matter Transmutation was still widely believed to be real.
People don't know that Weird Al is an actual genius who graduated as the valedictorion and went to college when he was only 16 and became an architect. He said he likes to create calculus problems for his daughter for fun.
Is he the guy who was on the opera show?
Dude is a genuine nerd and we love him for it!
Wow he is REALLY white and nerdy! 😂😂
@@sharpaycutie2 why did you emphasise his race
@@leozandrt9078 One of Weird Al's most popular parodies is "White and Nerdy"
"that's weird Al yankovich, what he's doing on an erb?"
Still waiting for Moses Vs Santa Claus for the real bomb 🤣
Agreed
Yo for real 🤣
Is there more ?
people spoil that one on his live streams but he will probly forget by the time he watches it
Oh yeah thats gonna blow his mind.
His reaction to Weird Al was like a child's
He was so shocked and happy
So was mine on my first watch of this.
I've waited for this for WEEKS! yes just to see his reactions to Weird Al
@@922optimum same, the reaction was so epic XD
Quite similar to my reaction when I first saw that video. I'm a big Weird Al fan.
Neal was actually the one who solved newtons "unsolvable" equation
Neal is a beast… all I gotta say
No that was Shouryya Ray
No, that was Sugar Ray
No, That was sugar Free
No, that was surgery
Neil deGrasse Tyson actually heard about this battle and was disappointed that they didn't request he be a part of it. That's right! We almost had Weird Al vs Neil deGrasse Tyson. So cool to imagine.
neil defat wouldnt have been able to deliver his lines properly anyway, it would have been shit
Typical egoist.
@@spoppyboi6427 he could lip sync though
@@spoppyboi6427You know they don't actually sing when filming the videos right? The audio is added onto the video as a separate layer.
The “Harry Potter business” line is actually in reference to Newton being an alchemist. He was trying to turn lead into gold by mixing chemicals a task often said to require a “philosophers stone” aka the first Harry Potter book.
The answer of the integral is really "i". Back when I was taking calculus in college, I calculated the equation 😅 great reaction knox, you should check out blackbeard vs al capone too
Yes please!
There are many different solutions, not only ”i”.
Well Newton says "to the 64th power of what" and i to the power of 64 is just 1 right? And he could have just said to the 4th power of i? Or 8th or 12th etc etc?
Sure
@@jackbreuhaus6244 what I meant was that x^64=1 has many different solutions, 64 in fact.
Weird Al is always the goat! So many kids don’t even know who this man is which is a shame!
i'm sadly one of them. need to check him out soon
@@TheSwedishDoc by soon you mean now, right?
@@samtheman1868 when i have the motivation to do anything besides looking at the ceiling: sure
Overrated in my opinion. But your entitled to your opinion
@@damonestephens8722 and why is that?
Weird Al is a crazy music artist, the fact that he can sing in any genre and rap at crazy velocities, he's the Music Parody GOAT.
P.s. If Knox loves his cameos, he's gonna lose it at "Moses Vs Santa Claus".
People already spoiled that cameo for him in a livestream.
He did.
This is one of my personal favorite ERB battles, but I've gotta admit that I really wanted to see Knox react to this primarily for the Weird Al realization and he did not disappoint.
also the reference to the "weight of the shadow of the mind you're standing in" is in reference to Weird Al's "Fat" song where he says "My shadow weighs 42 lbs"
I believe the whole "your work on orbits was exemplary but your circle of friends were shoddy" might have been a double referencing how people initially thought planets revovled in circular orbits, while in reality they revolve in Eliptical ones. So eliptical orbits being the "shoddy circles" as well as mocking his poor social life.
"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction except when we both start rappin" very similar to Thanos vs J Robert Oppenheimer's "it must leave you enraged when you compare our talents because in this battle there is no balance"
Knox reaction to seeing Weird Al was like a little kid coming to a realization 😂
Like a child that unwrapped a present and saw the box inside
You may be the first person to ever understand the needle in the eye bar was more than just a little 'I'm sharp with it bar.
I knew you would swing through with our weekly dosage, keep it up man
Ikr? Almost everyone misses that line!
Bruh, I've seen this battle multiple times and I've never got that hypothesize & conclusion line. I guess it really was too fast to detect.
I’ve met Weird Al 3 times over the years, ever since the Running with Scissors Album. He is a GOAT for sure and such a great guy. Thank you Knox for doing this one. Been waiting a long time to see the master of breakdowns meet the master of parody.
The Harry Potter bars were a reference to Isaac Newton practicing alchemy, I believe.
Yes, the answer to that equation is “i,” but it’s also, “1, 0, -1, and -i” depending on the context you are using it in.
Isn't "i" the symbol used to denote"-1"?
@@AbRas644 Well “i” is 1, “i” raised to the power of 2 is -1, but again in Calculus, depending on how you are using “integral sec y dy from zero to one-sixth of pi is log to base e of the square root of three times the sixty-fourth power.”
@@premedstudent861 i isn't 1, since it is the complex number (0, 1). 1 would be the tuple (1, 0) but you were right with i^2 = -1
Fuck are all of you on, i is defined by the equality i^2=-1
If you were going to say i is anything it'd be sqrt(-1). This is hardly even pre calc the fuck
Don't mind me. I never thought "i" could be the source of aggressive debate like in this comment thread, so I'm stopping by with popcorn.
i = sqrt(-1), i^2 = -1, complex number (0, 1), that is going up 1 unit on the real-complex number line, are all correct.
"You're no match for me, you got a bach degree" is such a nasty bar to all the people who got a bach degree
Science Bachelor degrees really don't mean much. With how big these curves are, there are people with 2.0 GPAs getting degrees by getting ~25-30% on tests. Bio/Chem/Biochem PhDs are referred to as "failed doctors" because all the high GPA undergrad students become MD/DO/DVM/Dentists/Pharmacists.
I've worked with literal Ph.D nuclear physicists and I'll tell you that a degree just means you had time, money, and enough obsession to complete it. It doesn't mean you're necessarily smart, clever, or wise.
Looking at this battle again, I just realized Bill Nye is actually showing appreciation to Issac
Newton within his rounds, while simultaneously dissing Sir Newton. Also, this beat is definitely my favorite of the ERB battles currently.
Bill Nye irl is a complete buffoon and a clown and doesn't even belong in the same category as Newton.
@@jondiaz3329 That's pretty much why they had to bring Neal Tyson in on Nye's side, it was completely one-sided otherwise.
@@jondiaz3329 How so? He has an impressive history and I don’t think teaching kids science is buffoonish.
@@jondiaz3329 Yes, an engineer who invented things used by airplanes and shuttles and taught millions of kids that science is cool (specially us girls by showcasing female children interested in science and females in the field) is a complete buffoon. *rolls eyes*
@@jondiaz3329 damn
What people don't realize about the "Perhaps it'd be better if I added a bleep or bloop or another wacky sound effect?" bar is that; it's not only a diss on Bill Nye for his PBS show, but it also references Weird Al's many, many songs that have so many wacky sound effects in them.
Neil DeGrass Tyson said if the ERB guys had asked him he would have played himself in this battle.
when? where? i would've liked to see that!
Like I said he said he would have but they didn't ask him
maybe that would be a great cameo for one of their live appearances. Like they did with Skrillex xD
@@6666Imperator oh, yes that would be incredible

I don't know which one to recommend first, so I'll list three:
1. Dracula vs. Vlad the Impaler
2. Terminator vs. Robocop

Albert Einstein VS Stephen Hawking
Terminator vs. Robocop for sure from me.
Blackbeard vs Al Capone 100%

11:36 After listening to Hardware Store, I think he just doesn't need to breathe.
You’re the only one who recognized Chali 2na from Jurassic 5, so massive props to you for that AND for encouraging people to check them out.
Also, Weird Al is the 🐐
That is all.

I've seen a few other reactors who've seen this ERB and recognized him.
The first time I saw this video, I only knew him from his feature on Linkin Park's Reanimation album on the track Frgt/10.

Having a Master's in Physics I absolutely loved this reaction (as always) and Knox always surprises me with his awareness and knowledge of other disciplines apart from music and sports!
This battle and Einstein vs Hawking are a couple of my favourites from ERB. I hope you check that out as well!
Newton doing the alchemy was, I believe, the "Harry Potter business."
Jacque Cousteau VS Steve Irwin had so many ruthless barz. you should do a vid on it.
Seconded
Ya
Cousteu vs Irwin and Armstrong vs Ruth... Ruth's second part eviscerated Armstrong, i wanna see how Knox reacts to that.
@@undertakernumberone1 yes
I vote for this.
What I like is when Newton mentions his laws, is they’re in the respective verse. So when he mentions Newton’s First Law it’s in the first verse of the ERB and then in the third verse mentions his 3rd law
I think the "harry potter business" bar was meant to refer to Newton getting obsessed with alchemy late in his life
Yes, Newton was trying to construct the Philosopher's Stone in order to transmute lead into gold. This ties in to the title of the first Harry Potter book.
Yay! ERB Series isn't dead! Lol you really should check out RoboCop vs Terminator, that's one of my favorites
Nice little cameo at the end of that one
8:17 At some point ERB needs to put Carl Sagan in a battle... between Bill Nye and Stephen Hawking, he's done enough quick cameos.
Argh.... I'm watching this 2 years later and screaming at the screen... "JUST LET AL RAP AND TAKE IT ALL IN AT ONCE!" His speed rapping blew me away back in the day!
One of my favorites ~ Weird Al kills it in this ERB🔥
The fact that weird al freestyles a correct mathematical equation is god tier. I suspect Al is an underground rap god but chooses to do comedy covers so our tiny mortal heads don't explode.
I had the same reaction when I first heard this! Weird Al Yankovic, the OG of parody songs! My childhood is screaming right now!
The "answer is i" line also completes the limerick-like rhyme scheme at the end of Newton's final line. If we replace "what" with "i", we get
The integral sec y dy
from zero to one sixth of pi
is log to base e
of the square root of three
times the sixty-fourth power of "i"
Which is a true equation.
The writing here is just on another level
What's crazy is how talented Weird Al is. You really should listen to his R&B/Hip Hop parodies if you have not yet, not on here, but just when you can. You'll have a great laugh and enjoy his talent. Really enjoy your reactions 🍻
Weird Al is so under rated !!❤️
I would have liked acknowledgement of the shadow of the mind line because one of newton's famous moments was calculating the size and weight of planets based on shadows
Dolph Lundgren has more science degrees than Bill Nye.
🤣🤣
You caught the physics bar in the second verse for Newton with the third law but missed the part of the setup in the first verse. In the second verse, he states that the battle is not an equal and opposite reaction. But in the first verse he says he keeps flowing, because the first law says motion is conserved unless encountering an equal (and opposite) force. With this bar, he prefaces that his rapping has no equal then doubles down on it in the next verse.
This has always been my favorite ERB, so happy you finally got to it. Much love from North Carolina!!
You should either do Lance Armstrong v Babe Ruth next or Steven Irvin v Cousteau
Nice reaction as usual. Newton's equation was one that he considered unsolvable because he (and others at the time) had dismissed Descarte's 'i' as fanciful. It was only later mathematicians that proved it otherwise. "i" is the correct answer. Hell of a bar in general. I love Newton's flow in this one.
Yeah, the answer is "i" and Neal was the one to solve that equation
Neil did not solve that equation... thats false Shouryya Ray solved it
Finally! Been wondering if he was ever going to get around to this.

11pm last night I said to my son-in-law, damn, Knox didn't drop an ERB today 😂
Since this is a science themed battle I feel I should shout out one of my favourite ERBs: Einstein vs Steven Hawking. One of the earlier ones that gained quite a lot of traction and in spite of them doing this for so many years is still one of my favourites.
Been waiting for this breakdown!
You're crazy Knox's 💯 % love the breakdown quality control 😆 "this is the best ERB ever" lol maybe you should do a video break down on them
YES!!!!! The day I have been waiting for is finally here. His speechless reaction to Weird Al’s appearance was perfect. Thank you for this!
Side note: if you want to see Weird Al’s true capabilities with rapping fast, check out Hardware Store.
Great video man. Please can you react to “none shall pass” by Aesop Rock. I think you’re gonna find it interesting, his lyricism is insane!
Yes!
Ohhh finally someone who know Aesop, he's such a goat 🐐

Thank you! I know I am way late for this vid, but dude.... you did what I did first time I checked this out, you were just way quicker in your reaction. I was pretty much a statue for 30 seconds after noticing that effing weird al was the one. God I am such a simp for that man, his talent and personality (as portrayed in what I know) is just such a magnet for all my love.
This is awesome, I've seen all of the erb videos up to now and I really love the level of breakdown that Mt. Knox does, always look forward to these reactions, eventually they will run out though, so hopefully you'll take a look at Whitney Avalon's princess battles, I'm sure you'll recognize many of the characters there

Fun Fact: Infinity and ever expanding are effectively two different phrases that have the same meaning. To be infinite is to be ever expanding because infinity is never ending: there will always be a 1 to add, an inch to move, a second to pass.
You can be finite and be expanding.
@@fernandobanda5734 Yes, however I don't think you can have infinity without it being ever expanding.
@@demonwolf8024 I agree. I'm just saying it's more of a case of "all Pitbulls are dogs but not all dogs are Pitbulls" if that makes any sense (you said they were two phrases with the same meaning).
@@fernandobanda5734 Effectively you can put a boat on a ship but you can't put a ship on a boat?
@@fernandobanda5734 However, notice that ever expanding is different than expanding in this context. A finite thing cannot be ever expanding, just expanding. Ever expanding means to continue expanding indefinitely.
So, I see what you were going for but you tripped on wording. r/ThereWasAnAttempt
My science teacher told me "smart people do stupid stuff so we know not to do them" Isaac Newton did good things but he also proved that what my teacher said was true.
I love your music Knox!
Damn, Knox..i was not ready for that song in the intro..dark.. i like it 👍🔥
Hey Knox! I know you really like your doubles and triples, so I would love to see you break down Bo Burnham - Words Words Words :))
Another great breakdown as always Knox. However, I would like to rebut a point, a small one.
While I appreciate Sir Isaac Newton, due to his genius (as well as level of insanity from mercury) I would think that his grading standards would be far higher than normal (higher plane of understanding, wouldn't pass in one of my classrooms). While Bill Nye has a low hanging fruit of a degree, he understood the need for more scientists, but the problem was and still is that science, at a certain age, can be insanely complex and very boring. His PBS show was aimed to get kids interested and hooked into the field of science while battling the ignorance of creationists.
His debate with Ken Ham was especially illuminating, because whenever Ken Ham couldn't answer a question, instead of admitting he didn't know something he would chalk it up to God. I cannot remember the number of times he said the phrase "There's a Good Book you can read" (the bible), which was infuriating. So I feel that particular bar fell flat because while Isaac was devout in his faith, if memory serves he was adamant in his opposition to the church regarding scientific research.
Great breakdown, Knox 🔥 this ERB is amazing
Appreciate that!
@@KnoxHill I appreciate your hard work :))
This one is gold your a legend for reacting to this one
Imho, people are a bit unfair to Bill Nye. Although he's not of the caliber of Sir Isaac Newton, he is most probably the reason why some people are into science -not Newton.
Should be teachers able to create he content they're teaching?
No, that's not their job.
Their job is to understand the content and explain it to us, which is not an easy task!
That's what Nye is- a propagator, not an innovator.
Disrespecting this, is like disrespecting a car mechanic for not having invented the techology used in your car, when you only need him to do a good job fixing it!
I like how they have Tyson coming in to help Bill further emphasizing Bill's point about the importance of having friends. Also, it is important to remember Bill has given humanity many inventions as well mostly in the field of aerospace technology and contributed to many other advances in the aerospace field on top of his work of promoting scientific and STEM knowledge among the younger generations. Most people unfortunately just think of Bill as a TV host but he has actually done a lot more.
Thank you!
I thought u weren't gonna do any more ERB. Thanks for continuing
Yo Knox hill bro!! Love your channel!! Been binge watching, jumping around.. the way you break it down has got me noticing music differently.. I would love to see some Jurassic 5 videos =)
I watched Bill nye in school, then after school learned who he is and now I abhor him and his ideas
My thoughts changed when I went to the Ark Encounter and learned about his debates
Sir Isaac Newton was a straight genius for his time Billy boy has a ton more info and didnt make a single step into the physics department sooooo I think we know who wins and who's next
Isaac Newton also stole alot of formulas and etc, also was very-people
In terms of overall Bill Nye has done more to help science along than Isaac
@@jasonrichardson1999 if wasn’t for Newton Bill Nye wouldn’t have much to teach
@@MultiMoo20 if it wasn't for Newton then science might of had more than just one big scientist during his time because he was a plagiarist
1:34 The look of pure joy and bliss is one of the reasons why I return to this video repeatedly.
Hell yeah thanks knox !
😆😅🤣 WEIRD AL IS THE God with PARODIES. You should see his work. Or rather watch and listen to his work. One parody we can actually learn some basic to the English language. It's called "Word Crimes" 😆 on more than a few I thought his Parodies (like that one) were an oringal song.
“I accelerated the mind of mankind to a higher plane of understanding and I can calculate the weight and the size and the shape of the shadow of the mind you're standing in." When Carl Sagan was explaining higher planes of existence to laymen, he used his famous "Flatlanders" story to get the point across. He held a cube in front of a light so that it cast a shadow. As he rotated the cube in various positions, it's shape remained a cube but the shadow it cast changed. This showed that trying to calculate the weight and the size and the shape of an object in a higher plane just from its SHADOW is impossible. So Newton is bragging that he can do the impossible through an apparent veiled reference to that Flatlanders story. Not only is it an amazing line, but it once again showcases the brilliant minds behind ERB.”

This is one of my favorite ERB Battles !!!
Okay, I have watched a few of your ERB reactions. Got to this one and wondered---might he be the first one I see react to this video that will actually GET the whole "i" reference. The math major in me is elated beyond belief that you knew what i was, even just saying its value of square root of negative one - nicely done.

The needle in the eye bar comes from stories that Newton tried to artificially change the shape of his eyeball using a needle to study the effects of refraction
