Bloody hell, some dealer that is!
As for Aprilia, I’ve had two Tuono V4 1100 Factory’s and loved them, never had a problem.
Thanks for sharing the test ride Andy!
That's good to know, thanks mate!
There's a lot to be said for riding an older used bike. They're typically cheap, less complicated, easier to work on, and not so dependent on dealers. My current ride was 16 years old with 36,000 miles on the clock when I bought it for $750US. It takes me to all the same places as guys on bikes that cost more than 10 times as much. I gave it a full service over the winter and I won't be surprised if I get another 36,000 trouble-free miles out of it.
I actually totally agree. I spent HOURS trawling through the classifieds for options. The only things that would do what I want would be Honda 750 Africa twin, Yam Super Tenere 750 or similar. Sadly those bikes are CRAZY expensive in Germany right now! Over half the price of a new bike for something over 20 years old! 🤣
Well said brother Early models transalp
Africa twin
KLE 500 if you need a parallel twin cylinder small engine.
Its what i did and saved my self from spending my money on garbage New age machines.
Totally agree, the people who buy bikes and ride a couple of thousands miles a year mean there are plenty of low mileage cheapish bikes out there in the UK.
Paying that little for a bike here in the UK and you'll get a bike that is falling apart. I paid £2400 for my now 23 y/o Kawasaki Ninja ZX9r in March 2021 with 16k miles, done almost seven thousand trouble free miles until I got unlucky and the head gasket went, I think only due to it being left outside under a cover for five years, otherwise the engine is great, and the bike overall is as good as expected with it's history. There are some great low mileage old bikes at grat prices out there.
i chould not agree more i had a ktm 1190 adventure r. after dlearship messing with to much i need pluged in for everything. i end up buying a honda transalp 600 1993 it best bike i ever riden i did a test rid norden 901 i had for a week best thing bike had was cruise control. everything ealse was heil to deal with it rattle make noises. horrable offroading as well. it blow my brains how 30 year old bike dose better brand new norden shocking. and i say it close to my ktm as well. i feel i take my transalp more places then i would my ktm. i had this talk my firend mt07 looking adventure bikes saying i not any thing oder then 2016 i luaghed in her face. said u go a head u burn a hole in your pocket. she saying her mt07 was to slow, she not keep up with me on 50bhp bike lol. i was runing mites e09 as well on the road not going over 60mhp say a lot
Thank you for naming this dealership. Not that I’m in Germany or indeed after an Aprila. Too few actually have the courage to give bad dealerships a good coating. Well done.
Happy to! Bad service should be highlighted and stamped out. We all have the power to vote with our feet and go elsewhere!
The most realistic review I've seen on this bike 👍
Cheers Carlo 👍🏻
Huge red flag. I wouldn’t spent a cent at this place either.
Never in a million years! They made sure of that!
Hats off to you for speaking so honestly about your experience with the dealer. My experience in GB is not so bad, but not far off including the service from BMW which everyone seems to rave about.
It needs to be said Ian. I think the motorcycle industry is a raging shit show and it won’t get any better until we the consumer start stamping our feet a little.
Made the same experience here in bavaria with a Yamaha/KTM dealer. Horrible, i told them that there is a strange whining sound from the gearbox in 3. and 4th gear after testride, their answer: well, it is supposed to to so.
Changed dealer, they are the complete opposite, but sadly 60km away. But guess where I bought the bike….
Totally understand that Marc. I did the same with Honda. The Hamburg dealer really upset me with their attitude so i went 40km up the road to the next closest!
I completely agree, same problem here in the south of Germany, no matter what brand. I had the same wobbling front wheel, when I test rode a T7. At least, they did't tell me that it was alright, but I bought my T7 somewhere else. The good thing with Yamaha, you can do the service yourself, because you don't need the warranty.
Shocking. But glad I’m not the only one!! 😂 That is a god point with the Yamaha.
You wouldn't get crap service like that here in blighty, i agree with one of the other comments about buying an older bike. Love older bikes, recently bought a 23 yr old Mk1 1200 bandit. Not a single riding mode on it not even abs , i bloody love it and so easy to work on.
I Know right! I keep telling people that it’s different back home! I’d love to have gotten something old, but prices for what i wanted (750 Super Tenere etc) were madness!!
My boss had a similarly bad dealership experience, albeit involving a used Mercedes van. He took it to the dealership's mechanic who said it was in perfect working order. However, after driving it a bit he felt the brakes were somewhat unresponsive. He then took it to a different mechanic, who found out there was indeed a problem with the brakes involving the ABS unit AND the servo, meaning the thing was a deathtrap that needed 2 grand worth of repairs. It's amazing how unconscientious some people are.
Unbelievable! The worst bit is the way that ‚experts‘ can look you in the face and say everything is fine. Either they’re literally clueless (bad) or they actually don’t know (really bad!).
I just switched from a 2018 CB1000R to a 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R. One of the best decisions I have made in my motorcycle career. And they are offering great deals on them as the 2024s are due out. In the states at least.
I wish they would do that here too. But I’ve already seen dealerships selling old 890‘s for more than other dealerships are selling the new model!! It all makes no sense!!
Never had issues like that in Germany. But if I ran into a dealer like that, I wouldn‘t buy from him too. Maybe it‘s a problem anywhere the density of dealerships is low … especially for exotic brands like Aprilia.
I fear that you could be right. No competition breeds complacency. Although service in general is terrible in Germany. You can bet that i didn’t spend any money there though!!
Totally unbelievable. I remember being told my warped front discs were probably caused by me braking too hard. Sorry, braking too hard? It was a mk1 versys 1k. Hardly doing track days etc.
Hahaha! These stories make me crazy!! @TheLikeableRider was once told that his bike had clutch failure because he’d fitted a brake reservoir protector! Madness!!
Great video Andy! Well done for highlighting that terrible customer service too. Hopefully it will make them up their game. Hope yer well man. 👌🎥
Cheers Dave. I don't think they'll do anything to better themselves, but at least i got it off my chest!!
Test Rode this, two things I did not like as the Viby foot pegs over 100km, and the heat from the motor, went for the triumph Tiger
900 instead.
I did notice a bit of a buzz in the pegs, but way less than from my CB1000R. Didn’t get long enough to feel the heat, but i never had an issue with the heat on the KTM 1090 either, even after removing the plastic bits meant to reduce the heat. Maybe my trousers are thicker! 😂
The airbox noise is worth it alone
The CZcams 'Bulgarian' moaned about that...everyone else seem to love it
@williamrae9954 Each to their own i suppose. But i absolutely love it! Even after 5000 km it’s still intoxicating.
What a benny of a dealership. I convinced myself a while back that an MT07 was plenty for how and where I ride but found the drop in power a little grating after a while so swapped it out for an S1000XR. It does everything I want to and more and man does it put a smile on my face every time I ride it. Really looking forward to finding out what you end up with….
Totally! Astonishing service! I hear you on the power front. But i think for me i won’t be so bothered. The KTM was 25 hp down on the Honda. Didn’t bother me. I then had a week on a Desert X, which was another 25 hp down on the KTM. But that also didn’t phase me. This and the T7 are another 20hp down but also 20-25kg lighter. So i think I’ll be happy. I’m getting quicker on the corners and slower on the straights anyway!!
@@AndyManCam sounds like the decision is made so can’t wait to see the new steed. And no pressure on the content fella, you do an awesome job and I’d love to see a new one every time I wander onto CZcams but we all have to work…
@johnsteel4719 Thanks very much John. 🙌🏻
good review but a minor buckle in a wheel is hardly a death trap, agree they should not be sending out a bike with such a clear fault, strangely I would imagine things to be more profile in Germany.
Anything that makes the wheel wobble the amount it did (you can’t really appreciate the amount from the video) is going to unsettle the bike. I’d have left it at that, but the dealers attitude was what pissed me off the most. Unfortunately shoddy service at dealers is pretty much the norm nowadays.
It's so odd. A friend had a similarly poor attitude at a dealership he has bought maybe 4 bikes from over the years. Why push people away when they actively want to give you their money!!
In this case (and i think I’m most cases in Germany) the answer is in the problem. If your friend has bought 4 bikes from there already, then they don’t feel that they need to work for his custom. That’s the same feeling i get everywhere here. „If you don’t buy it, somebody else will“. They literally don’t care.
@@AndyManCam Yeah, there's something in that. Mate has swapped in his KTMs for a V4S Multi now though after proper treatment from Ducati who did actually want to make some money!
Andy it is not just Germany, NZ is the same. The word "Service" or "G00D Service" does not exist anymore. I have had bikes returned with crushed brake levers, tyres mounted back to front and fork seals still seeping after going in to have them replaced. Just do it myself now!
That’s such a shame. At this rate we’ll have to buy bikes Mail order, directly from the manufacturers. 🤦🏻♂️
Shocking they let someone ride that damaged bike. Surely that’s a safety risk.
I would have said so! But apparently they thought it was completely OK 🤦🏻♂️
@@AndyManCam I had no idea Germany was so bad to be honest man. I can see why you are disillusioned about it all.
That's a pretty sad tale Andy. If we are willing to hand over our hard earned coin then the people we pay should be at least competent, responsible, honest humans, sadly it seems there's people in the industry that think otherwise
Very much so. And even worse is that they still think they deserve my custom. Fools!!
Try a Tiger 800. You'll like it.
Not very expensive to buy and it feels (& sounds) great onroad and offroad. It's a very comfortable bike too.
Heated seats on the 2017+ version. And the Xrx variants feel like an adventure version of the street triple
I did try one in 2015 and really liked it. Sadly prices are high here. A 2018 XC costs as much as a brand new Tuareg right now. Sometimes more! 😱
@@AndyManCam Alright, i tried. 😄
I actually have a 2015 model myself, but the Xrx street model. Bought it used for 7 grand with 20.000km on board over here in Austria and i figured prices in Germany wouldn't be that far off (expected them to be lower tbh). These things age very well so buying used with some miles on it isn't that big of an issue. Rode one that had 100.000km on it and I barely felt a difference to mine. Plus the used ones usually come with all sorts of cool farkles.
Either way, curious to see what you end up getting (and why).✌
Maybe it’s something i should have spent more time looking at. I did like the one i rode and the engine note is sublime.
It’s a fabulous bike with brilliant suspension, I love it. You can also get an optional heavier flywheel for these which might also negate some of the engine braking and provide better off road traction.
Good to know. The reviews certainly are very glowing across the board!
The rear suspension is good, the front suspension is not. A quick perusal of advrider will show you that every rider that had a suspension guy tear into the forks noticed that the shims were bent or smashed into oblivion (mine were the latter with 620 miles on the clock). The front suspension also has an odd setup in that it is mid-valve only instead of the traditional base and mid-valve. I am finally getting around to swapping out the fork cartridges to deal with that second issue (thankfully we have three different options) so I can get more adjustability. Aprilia would have been much better off just going with the same traditional fork setup the Tenere uses. They are both Kayaba 43mm, but the internals differ considerably. The shocks are actually the same and you can swap performance parts for the Tenere into the Tuareg shock as a result (KTech makes a piston kit for the shock that is a bit better if you want to go more dirt focused).
@@williamb.6918 thanks for the detailed observations on those front forks and rear shock. As a road rider these are limitations I would not reach and I would never tax the suspension to the extent others would. I did find a perfect setup for myself on these somewhat rough roads and appreciated the separate rebound and compression adjusters on the rear end. I can tell you that the suspension setup for the road was vastly superior in terms of high speed damping over my 2023 R1250Gs which is a boneshaker on the same roads. A little of an unfair comparison given the GS’s shorter travel but surprising non the less. I have KYB.factory cartridge front forks on my Daytona 1200 and like them a lot with meaningful adjustability that make a real world difference. But that’s 1995 for you! 😁. Cheers 👍.
I’d like to think that they’ve ironed that out in the current run of bikes. Sadly i also wouldn’t be surprised if not. I’ve already had to completely dismantle the rear wheel assembly as it was squeaking, only to find that there was practically NO grease in there whatsoever. So the oil seal was rubbing and squeaking on the spacers. Now it’s full of grease and silent, but it really should have been done from the factory! All I’ve noticed so far from the front is that it’s a bit ‚clonky‘ when it’s topping out at the upper end of the travel. But i haven’t tried any real off roading yet. We’ll see!
They have been radio silent to those of us that have reported the problem and to date I have not heard of a single fork opened up that did not share this problem. With the stock front setup I just was not able to get the feel I was looking for in looser material without removing almost all the preload in the rear to compensate (which should not be something you have to do). I do come from a KTM background and hands down they have the best suspension in this class by a significant margin (I actually bought the Tuareg because my new 1290 was down for an extended period waiting on parts). @@AndyManCam
New bikes are ridiculous, for a number of reasons, but price is at the top of the list. Last year I bought an H-D Road King used from a guy and it was outfitted with everything. Only 32K miles and I paid one fifth of the cost for a new one. When people come up to me, they always think it's new. I also bought a '98 Honda VFR800FI last year for a great price with 22K miles, GIVI top box and side cases. The bike is brilliant, so much fun to ride and sounds amazing with the Honda V4. Now, I'm an old guy (67) and work on my own stuff. One problem with some models of older motorcycles is finding parts, the other is finding a mechanic familiar with them.
I wish it were the same here in Germany, but it seems that demand for used bikes is at an all time high and as a result there’s not much difference between new and old. For example an 8 year old Tiger 800 XC with 20,000 km costs the same as a new Tuareg right now. Madness.
Just came across this video and I will say this is why I haven’t bought a new motorcycle in years because of the lack of trust I have in dealerships. Especially on the service side of things.
It could be that it is NOT the fault of the dealer with the wobbly front tire.
It is known that some of the first charges of the PIRELLY SCORPION STR tires have balance issues. They had some problems in the production of the first batches of those tires.
You have to get a completely new front tire in that case.
No, in this case the wheel was clearly buckled. I could see it rippling from side to side.
I think personally (my wife disagrees and is usually right) that spending €150 on a full day's ride on a well sorted example might be worth considering. You'll get an accurate picture of the arse ache and vibrations factors and if you do buy one it's a very small fraction of the overall price.
And if you find that you don't like it you won't have wasted anything because then you'd know for absolute certain
You are of course right. I think it just pokes me in the principles when it should be the dealership convincing me. But just like everything in this country, they’re blinded by the short term. They care more about the resale value of the demo bike than the long term gain of multiple purchases and multiple loyal customers. TBH I’d happily see the dealership network in Germany starve themselves to bankruptcy with their own stupidity.
Your more patient then me. That front wheel would have been enough for me to turned round and take it back. If they apologized and fixed it I'd taken it back out. But it'd be enough to make me walk away. I'd check out another dealer
I think the 50 minute drive to get there tempered my response somewhat. I wanted for the drive to not be a complete waste of time, so soldiered on to find out what I could! I was also ready for them to apologise and try to fix it quick. The complete opposite attitude just stunned me.
That indicator button not going to last long 😂😂
Lucky they didn't blame you for damaging the wheel.
Everything is on video 😂
Very true. But Germany still doesn’t legally recognize the action camera! 😅
I’ve just tested one. I noticed very little buzz or vibration.
My only major complaint is the dive under braking. It doesn’t hold itself up well at the start of the suspension stroke. Unlike the T7 World Raid…
I agree about the throttling…
It is also a very stable bike! Very disappointing about the run out in your front wheel on the test bike.
I think a lot depends on what you’re coming from. My KTM 1090 adventure was very smooth in comparison. Needless to say, i bought a Tuareg and I’m very happy with it so far!
If I wasn't married for life to my GS (and possibly any new GSs that will come) and if I had healthy knees, back, shoulders... I would be seriously considering Tuareg. It seems to be better out of the box from all other middleweights out there. Completely based on other people opinions, never ridden or even seen one so there's that...😄
I know what you mean. I’ve read and watched pretty much every review out there and there is barely a bad thing said about it! Well, except for the obvious shaky parts and reliability reputation!
Very good honest review. Actually, I've found your channel by watching a Yamaha Tracer 900 test ride video. Back then I thought: what a brilliant English for a German guy 😂😂
Haha! To be honest you're not the first to think that! Sadly my German isn't quite as good as my english! 😉
can't be official dealer.. being
aprilia such a great brand. never had aprilia but know a lot of people and videos who never reported any issue
Super video! Exactly my experience with Aprilia dealer and bike quality. Aprilia is done in North America. I ended buying Honda.
We have the best dealer ever in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
@@rustyupton168 That I believe and he must be making good salary. 😉
It’s a real shame, because the bike is fantastic! Sadly I’ve dealt with three aprilia dealers now and two of them i will never visit ever again. The third one is on shaky ground due to vastly overinflated prices. But hey, if you’ve got no competition in the area…
6' 4", just under 100K, 34" inside leg, we could be twins. Except I'm old enough to be your father. (I'm not.) P.S. some luke warm advice from someone who's never tried to be a CZcamsr - definitely cut down on the Insta 360 percentages and smash out more content. The 360 is spice to the dish. We’re on the same page there Michael. In fact the next two serieseses will be entirely without 360 footage. Went back to the roots for a bit!
On the channel "Big rock moto" you can see a comprehensive long-term review of the Tuareg 660 in several parts which is more comprehensive and nuanced.
I don’t need to. I’m living it. I’ve got one in the garage. 👍🏻
@@AndyManCam
Well, the information is of course for people who don't have one, and that's most individuals on earth.
@leiflindqvist9095 Yes of course. But they can also watch the story unfold here, for a different perspective. 👍🏻
Would have been nice to see the buckle of the wheel!
Theres a bit where I stand up and look down on the wheel, in slo-mo. You can see how buckled it is then. To look at the rim stationary, you couldn't really see anything. So although I understand that they potentially could have missed the buckled wheel at the dealership, the thing that got under my skin was not only that they KNEW about it, but that they had already decided for me that it was absolutely no problem. Buckled so hard that the steering wobbles, but that's fine for customers to ride.
Great review, Andy, and the Aprilia seems like a possible replacement for your KTM; but not from that dealer.
Crappy dealerships are not unique to Germany and here in the UK, as you will know, there are some whom I wouldn't trust to put air in a tyre.
Definitely seems feasible on paper, and from what I saw, pretty convincing. But 1000% not from that dealership!
There are snake pits in every continent 🙄
Sad but true.
I had the same problem (attitude) from two garages local to me in the uk. I paid a little more from other garages because i refused to give them my money. They still seem to plenty of trade tho so guess some people are willing to accept attitude if the price is right.
That’s a shame. I don’t understand how they stay in business. The only explanation is that people are too shy or embarrassed to speak up about substandard service. I think this is definitely the case in Germany.
That’s such a bummer of an experience and there’s no way you’d trust them to do proper service. I feel fortunate to have an absolutely amazing Aprilia dealership here in Austin, TX which is why I have purchased 3 motorcycles from them over the past 7 years. Good luck in your search for a new or used bike!
That’s great Pete, happy that you’ve got a place you trust. I’m still looking!! 😆
I sat on a 2nd hand Honda NT1100 in a dealership last week, the front forks were noticeably twisted. How they could put that on the show room floor I don’t understand.
It’s disgusting! Almost as bad as me standing in a Honda dealership, complaining about my paint problem „oh I’ve never heard of that, how unusual“ except the 2 used models on the showroom had the exact same issue! 🤦🏻♂️ it beggars belief!!
Thank you for the review Andy, I too would be concerned with the front end wobble. We have the same crappy experience at these dealerships in the US. BTW, What beautiful country you live in. The popular bike in that segment here is the Yamaha 700 Tenere.
My pleasure Ollie! Such a shame that this terrible attitude pervades across the globe. You’d think the brands would want to make sure their reputations were being better represented!
Not much difference in the States when it comes to motorcycle servicing.
After numerous tire balancing and tires being mounted backwards I gave up on most of the shops.
I bought some tire spoons and a small balancing stand and have changed all my tires for the last 10 years.
Great Video Buddy! Keep test riding stuff and you won't need to buy one!
And there was my thinking buying a bike in England was a pretty lousy experience but at least we get to round wheels here😎👍
The round wheels do certainly make the process a little more enjoyable! 😂
Don’t blame you regarding that dealer. Shame as the bike looks great. Little consolation but there are dealers like that in the UK…
Cheers Scott. It was otherwise pretty convincing and the price vs spec is currently incredibly attractive.
yeah quality issues are still there…bit i have to say against my xsr900 its not buzzy at all wich is no suprise😅 i did only ride the the newest cb1000r tho
It seems the quality is getting better all the time.
Sold as seen mate. We’ll help you push it off the premises
Haha! That was pretty much the tone of it!! 🤣
Have to say that you’re not alone on your thoughts about dealerships
Glad to hear that. I get a fair bit of hate every time i have a meltdown about it!
I own this bike and I am very happy with it, coming from a GS I really appreciate how light it is. - My test ride on the Tuareg had the same problem with the front wheel. I wouldn’t blame the dealer for that. If the customer before me did stupid things with the bike without telling the dealer, how was he supposed to know? I brought the bike back, told the dealer about the wobble, and a week later it was repaired and I had my test ride again.
Very happy to hear a positive and happy owner! In this case i totally blame the dealership because they already knew about it! And not only that, they knew about and thought it was still ok to send out again. Either they were lying because they didn’t want to admit that they messed up, or they’re just incredibly bad at their jobs.
That’s BS! The dealer is responsible for making sure the bike is correct if not for anything other than safety reasons. It is the dealers fault make no mistake whether someone brings it back knackered or not. It’s up to them to make sure it’s up to snuff.
Loving the milk tray man look at the end of the video 👍
Gotta be ready for anything! All because the lady loves....
Don’t let em get to you old chap, Blighty is watching 😅
I think you doubled up! Can you get that back?!
@@AndyManCam ah no doesn’t matter enjoy it old chap, your content is worth a load more than a cup or two of coffee 👍🏻

i have made the grave mistake of buying a bike with a bent frame, at the time of purchase i didn't even have the license for it so i couldn't test ride it, it was a private sale so all i did was do 2 laps around the lad's back garden on it to make sure it started and stuff, but overall i had no idea what to look for, i was new to bikes, having only ridden a 50cc before that, i had no clue about mechanics and such so i just bought it, only to find out once i was actually able to ride it and going out with some friends, my friend who was riding behind me told me once we stopped that i'm crabbing, at first thought it was the wheel alignment so adjusted the chain and made sure that the back wheel was straight, still nothing, only to take the whole bike apart and see that the frame is curved to the right, so overall, yes, the motorcycle industry today is disgusting, not a word mentioned from the seller as he was just trying to get rid of it, i cannot afford to sell this bike and get another because 1. i can't afford a new bike atm, 2. i wouldn't get any money from selling this bike if i mentioned the bent frame so that's not an option, and 3. i commute 40 miles a day to work so having no transportation is not an option either, so here i am, 1.5 years later still riding the same bent bike, still putting up with it, at this point i'm just waiting to be old enough to pass my A2 license so i can buy a bigger bike and then scrap this one, absolutely shocking that someone would sell a bike in such a state but hey ho, no one actually cares for other people's safety nowadays i suppose.
Sorry mate, that really sucks. I’m pretty sure that here you can sue the seller if they hide that from you. Doesn’t help you much. But for that very reason i only buy bikes from dealerships. Not necessarily because i trust their work, but because they legally have to give me a years warranty!! Good luck getting the license and finally moving on to something you can be happy with mate. 🤞🏻
@AndyManCam thank you very much, even if I could sue the seller its been over a year and a half since I got it so... bit late I think lol
Yeah that’s a real shame. But much like my experience, we learn from these things and hopefully won’t ever make the same mistakes again!
It’s very likely that the front wheel issue was the front tyre.
My T7 has the same issue, but swapped tyres for a trip, the problem went away, put the STR back on and buckled again.
So, manufacturing issue.
Disappointing that it’s not been sorted with Pirelli yet, but worth noting that OEM tyres are often not the same as the ones you buy. Still a great tyre though
I have to disagree. It wasn’t simply a vibration or a slight wobble. When looking down upon the rotating wheel from above, i could clearly see a 10-20mm side to side deviation at one specific point. A tyre would have to be seriously out of spec to cause that.
@@AndyManCam yep, mine was in my T7, pretty surprised
Well whatever the cause, the bike still shouldn’t have been sent out like that and furthermore, the staff shouldn’t have argued with me that nothing was wrong. A simple response of ‚I’m sorry. Let me take a look at it. Would you like to try again with a different bike?‘ would have been more than adequate, instead of the arse covering, blame-shifting exercise that they pulled. Disgraceful.
One look at the business and you can see that they don't put any money back into the business and that's a Big no no for Me... don't give up on Aprilia they have some of the best bikes built... Yes I feel you right now and that's what makes us go to another brand.. I would call Aprilia Head office and explain your experience with them and believe me a company like that would be All over them.... when I seen that plate for me that was not good tell's everything about that place... I've been to shop's like that and I was in and out...
I love the bike, got one for me after a 3 hour payed testride, but dealerships are a joke for aprilia in germany so far. If they are any good they are way to busy. If they are not busy you know why.
That's a shame. But hey, at least you've got the bike you wanted! Just have to book way in advance and hope for a new dealership!! 😉
We all literally put our lives in these mechanics hands. Anywhere in the world, you have to trust the bike is road worthy. Spending money at these establishments is dumb. 🇺🇸
I totally agree. And what’s the point of paying for a service, just to get the stamp and then having to check the bike over yourself to make sure it’s been done properly!!
To understand this bike and its potential, im considering going back to Crete in late Sept/beginning of Oct. There were Aprilia Tuaregs for rent there. Crete is a curve paradise. and it also has hundreds of kms of gravel roads. I have tested the Tuareg for 2 hours in an EU city (including some forest riding) and, for me, it was undoubtedly better than the T7. I have jumped on it after a similar 2hrs test with the T7 + I have previously rented Yamaha twice, full days. Once with, once without passenger. Summarizing - Crete for test ground :)
Sounds like the perfect test ride! I hope you managed to get some good testing in.
Sorry to hear about the KTM but glad you're ok. Honda Africa Twin maybe? Yamaha have the new Tenere 700 I think it is. I can't get over they sent out a bike with a wheel in that obviously poor condition.
Thanks! I'm afraid Honda is forever in the doghouse as far as I'm concerned. Maybe the Transalp is the perfect bike for me, but sadly we'll never know because I wouldn't touch it with a shitty stick!
That's a beautiful bike, I hope I can get one when I'm ready to move up from my 390
Fingers crossed mate! 🤞🏻
Unfortunately some folks on test rides are totally disrespectful of the bike as it is not their property. That said your customer experience was extremely poor and you are right to totally discount that particular dealership. All things considered and objectively speaking BMW motorrad have the best customer service experience. They are happy to give test rides, used bikes are fully serviced with a two year warranty. OK you pay a little more but I can see the value. What about a used 850gs which has likely never been taken off road by its previous owner.....
Yeah of course. But the fact that they knew about this bike yet still sent it out! It’s obvious the mechanic kerbed it on his adventures in Italy and didn’t want the boss to find out! I don’t really fancy it TBH. They’re obviously well made. But just a bit heavy and unexciting in my slanted opinion!
love the video as always!❤
Thanks very much GG!
If you like the bike enough to still consider a day hire then it's got to be worth a look at a different dealer. One bad apple and all that stuff. Hope you do because it's a lovely looking bike.
I totally agree. The bike was definitely good enough to give it another chance.
So you liked the 660 Tuareg apart from the buckled wheel?
So much so, that this happened: New Bike and WHY I Chose It!
czcams.com/video/Wj42GVb151A/video.html not from that dealership though! 😅
Same here in Scotland, went to change the tires on my Africa Twin at Honda dealership and now my front tire is buckled. Great job! Ps. Looking forward to see what you pick! :)
That’s madness!! Surely checking the wheel is true should be part of the balancing!! 🤦🏻♂️
Use tyre specialists, like Collins in Johnstone, not bike dealers
I really do believe that a dealership should be able to do everything, or stop offering mechanical services. It’s a crying shame, the current state of the motorcycle industry
Bikes can be fixed, but bad attitudes from the people who 'potentially' will service your bikes cannot. A huge red flag. As you are a tall unit I wondered if an adventure bike style would be more suited? But appreciate a mute point as you have already made a purchase! I look forward to the next test ride upload.
Absolutely right! But this is an adventure bike. The thing is massive! It’s just got a smaller engine than the supertanker ADV‘s but there’s plenty of space.
This reflects my own experience with Aprilia. Great bikes...shocking service. Parent company Piaggio were hateful to deal with when it came to simple warranty claims.
Never again!
That’s sounds very familiar!!
Sorry to hear about your bike, most importantly hope you are okay. 😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🍻.
Thanks very much John!
Oh mate, did someone rear-end The 1090? I am so sorry, but I am glad you're alright. Enjoy the journey of getting a new bike!
ETA: Just saw the prior video. Might need some physio on that ankle, hope it heals soon.
Yeah gutted. Seeing the positive in getting a new bike, but it’s still annoying! A new bike doesn’t give me back the summer that I’ve all but missed! Another appointment with the doctor on Monday, probably about time to talk about physio. 👍🏻
@@AndyManCamdude what Summer be glad you still alive!
Count your blessing!
Anyway happy to hear you are fine!
Cheers fro. Montreal Canada!
Also a good angle! Being alive is preferable to… not! 🍻
If the T7 is an alternative, I had a good experience at Tecius & Reimers.
I did actually test ride the World Raid at T & R. Shame really because I asked them for a test ride on a standard T7. Obviously they ignored what I wanted and aimed for a bigger sale. When I told the guy that I simply didn't have that much money, he stayed strong and just told me how much better the World Raid was and that I should take out a loan for the rest!! If he'd have shut his trap and listened to me, he might well have sold a standard T7 that day!! 😅
@@AndyManCam Huh. They hooked me up with a test ride right away and gave me a good price on my trade-in Honda when I bought my XSR900 there. Then again, there were no more expensive editions of the XSR to upsell me on, so maybe I just got lucky.
Oh Thats right, they also turned me down on a trade in of my Honda when I wanted to buy a KTM 1090 from them. Also managed to bugger it up so that i couldn’t test ride the KTM. Despite me phoning ahead and making an appointment. So i was allowed to ride the KTM around the car park. Oh and then the front tyre was flat! 😂
I got Goldwing from the dealer with a smashed front wheel it fluttered worse than this Tuareg as soon as I left the handlebars
I felt like I could crash at any moment…
They apologized and cleared a brand new bike for me to test again… I said NO THANK YOU!
I bet!! That’s the sort of thing they really should notice BEFORE the pacing customer gets on!
Everything happens for a reason. 🙂 Lack of dealer network would be a huge no no for me with the kind of riding you do. (Unless you plan on completely changing that) You could try the other dealer depending how far away that is, but what happens if you get a problem with them? Where would you go then? It goes without saying I wouldn't go near that dealership with a barge pole., you couldn't trust the PDI, the sevicing or any sort of warranty problem.
Totally agree Paul. Won’t be looking in their direction ever again! ‚Luckily‘ I’m used to being a distance from the dealer as my local Honda was also rubbish. I’ve actually gone nearly new for a better deal AND less time before i can start taking care of servicing myself 💪🏻
M8 I can't believe that even happened, a buckled front wheel ffs! Did they blame that on you to top it off beautifully?
Thankfully no, but they did CV knowingly send me out on a broken bike. W⚓️s.
Is it time to try a gs Andy? You’ve got the skill and they’re a helluva bike. I’ve got the gsa 1200 and it really is a jack of all trades.
Thanks, I’m glad you think so! But as well as not having even close to enough money for that, after picking the KTM of the floor several times on the last trip, i think I’d prefer 30 kg less weight rather than more!
Yes, this attitude is common this days. Meh, clients will come anyway. Bike is worth to check up one more time, at another dealership. Good luck!
I agree. It showed me enough good points that it deserves further investigation.
Not that id expect you to follow ....but after many years of new bikes january this year i had clear out bought a 2011vstrom 650 from a brilliant dealer did a new rear tyre mot full service didnt ask for this....after a trip to outer hebrides and local rides is it worse than 11000 grand vstrom 1050xt 9000grand tracer 7 GT.....no it beep beeep isnt ...its brilliant at nothing but good at everything .....cheers dave..😂👍👍
That's the real winner Dave! I'm happy for you mate. I did spend a large chunk of time looking for a used 'Gem' that I could lavish with care and abuse in equal measure. Sadly the prices were exorbitant! (German market plus height of the season). 20 year old XTZ750, 5 grand! 25 year old Suzuki DR800, 3 grand! Madness. Maybe after the next bike deeply disappoints, I'll get rid and buy a project in the winter when it's cheap!! 😅
I'm in northern Bayern and must say most of the dealers I've had contact with here were pretty bad when it came to customer service. The arrogance is unacceptable! However my current BMW dealer has made me very happy. So happy, I've bought 2 bikes in the last 2 years from them and thinking about a 3rd😂
Ahh mate, that is terrible treatment and disregard. Am sorry your first experience on an Aprilia was negative. If ever you are in my neck of the UK, you are more than welcome to borrow mine, can even take you trail riding as I have my Beta still too... but mine is also scary on wet tarmac at speed too... but that is due to knobbly tyres, not buckled wheels! 😀
Thanks very much mate. TBH the bike still did some solid convincing. Enough that I’m able to separate the buckled wheel as being nothing to do with the bike itself. So i wouldn’t say the Aprilia experience was negative. But i do know a dealership that I’ll never be visiting again!
@@AndyManCam don't blame you, I'd run a mile from a dealership like that!
If there’s anything i can do to warn others, i feel like it’s also my obligation to do so! 😅

Thats how a dealer can destroy manufacturers reputation, right?
TOTALLY!! They're single-handedly putting people off the Tuareg, one test ride at a time!! "Yeah that death wobble is completely normal mate".... Idiots. Though I bet if I email Aprilia, they will do NOTHING about it. Seems nobody cares what the customer thinks nowadays!
It’s a fabulous bike
It really is! 5000km on mine now and still loving it!
Yeah I know the feeling man that's the reason why I'm not getting a Aprilia here in the us because their customer service is shit but I decided on a transalp because Honda has parts everywhere in my opinion it's just as good😅
Glad you found your machine. Sadly for me, the Aprilia was the only one that ticked all the boxes for me! Guess I’ll be riding the Aprilia Roller coaster until the warranty runs out!
Customer care, in many places, is going down the drain.
Totally agree. Seems that drain for motorcycle businesses is a bit bigger and dirtier though!
Try the 1290 super adventure either new model or the previous one
Awesome machines, but just way more bike, electrics and cost than I’m looking for.
Looking at reliability.. and what you use your bikes for.. id say Tenere 700! (But i bet we see this testride soon)
Not for the riding Andi does. I got one and find long road stretches a pain. Crappy dirty lanes, Ten every time. Fast roads, noooo.
Sure enough, the T7 video is coming tomorrow!
The seat is pretty pointy! But there are also comfort seats available, for the more delicate derrière!
Hoozah!@@AndyManCam
Aprilia Tuareg 660 Problems
The common Aprilia Tuareg 660 problems are oil leaks, an uncomfortable stock seat, overheating engine, a lack of Aprilia service and support, the stock skid plate is not good, works fine only on premium fuel, issues in smooth shifting of gears, vibration, and weak front brakes, idling and stalling issues due to faulty spark plugs and faulty computer.
I’ve spent some serious hours on many forums and i can say that most of those were early problems that have been ironed out with ECU flashes, software updates and manufacturing changes. The uncomfortable stock seat is sadly still vastly superior to that on the T7 and no bike ever came from the factory with a skid plate worth keeping long term! We don’t have premium and non premium fuel in Germany, or even most of Europe for that matter. Just premium and more premiumer! Ultimately the tales on the forums leave me far less worried than stories about new KTMs or BMWs. Buckled front wheels, complete ECU failure, total front suspension recall, to name but a few. TBH all of this stuff can happen to any bike. Eventually you just have to pick the bike that you want and take the consequences that it comes with!
Hot catalytic converter, not engine...that resolved by Arrows downpipes
Ok looks like my predictions i just mentioned on your last video were way off seen as your testing a tuareg... guessing itll be a T7 then or a desert x
Haha! I maybe could have offered more in terms of the criteria I'm working with! Desert X would be nice, but too much $$$
A lot of used bikes out there where the owners ride them for 1 season - a couple of thousand miles maybe - and move on. That's what I look for. Save on first service, no set up/shipping fees, and a grand or 2 off msrp. No need for old sh*theaps - no matter what suspension you put on it ...
If the bike still interests you after the dealer and wheel experience, I can recommend you chat with Pete @Hippo-Drones channel. He's been running one off and on-road for some time.
I had a Triumph dealer offer me a max of 30-minute test on a new Tiger 1200. I said if that was all on offer before parting with 19K I would look elsewhere. Didn't seem bothered.
How about a BMW dealer?
That’s madness isn’t it! For 19k I’d want a whole afternoon! Don’t worry, @Hippodrones was my first port of call when I started considering this bike! 👍🏻
Here Here Andy, they motorcycle business doesn’t deserve the customers they deal with.
Sad but true.
30 min for a testride is normal no?
According to the German dealers, yes. To the guy considering dropping 10,000 € of hard earned savings, a half hour is about a weekend too short!
I’m a bit sad about your experience:( I love my Tuareg. I guess you have bought a bike now, it not come to Norway and you can borrow my for a weekend.
I was really sad about the experience too. Mostly because I had literally just paid the cheque into the bank and would have happily left it at that dealer! Plus, other than the wobbly wheel, i really liked the bike. It also could have gone differently. They could have fixed the wheel, or got another test bike out, or simply not been dicks about a situation in which they can only use. If you argue with a paying customer, expect that customer not to pay!! At least that’s how i think it should be, although I’m germany it seems very different!!
Of all the dealers within 100km of you how did you end up at a farm bike shed in the middle of nowhere is what I want to know.
I got skillz!! 😎
@@AndyManCam 🤣
Northern Germany, no bends. Suitable for training legions of Prussians to march in formation east or west. So there's that.
There definitely is that.
Strange, knowing how you still like to get a shift on and your previous bikes I’d have thought you would find this underpowered. Shocking dealer attitude!
I know it is weird. Especially as I DID find the Tracer 9 felt a bit breathless. But this just felt strong and torquey. Just enough that I reckon I'd be quite alright with it. TBH my old Versys 650 always had enough go to do what I wanted to do. I was just corrupted by power!!
Bring back Polly! :D
If it was me, I'd think about the other Aprilia dealership you mentioned. It sounds like (for the most part) you really enjoyed the bike, you were just given a crappy example to test.
If only there was an ADV sized version of Polly! I totally agree. The bike deserves a second look for sure.
I've heard people say if you don't look back at your bike when you walk away then you've got the wrong bike, to my eyes the aprilia looks awful. Yes it has Dakar style, but they're not good looking bikes either 🙈
Yep, they’re certainly not super model machines. But TBH most of my bikes have been ugly!! I have loved them for what they can do!
U running on urban mode . It is the throttle power in setting 3 , the lowest.
In individual you can put it in setting 1 the highest . Have very much different
Have a look a the Ducati dessert x Andy, I think it looks amazing , and would be perfect for your touring 👌
They are amazing. I had one for 5 days on Gran Canaria and loved it! They’re also amazingly expensive to buy and the Desmo valve servicing is crippling!!
If you like the weight of the Aprilia, have you considered the Triumph Tiger 900? That has plenty of oomph too
The tiger is very pretty but it is top heavy next to the Aprilia. I do like Triumphs.
