  • It's true the Suzuki Vitara - all the way from its beginnings in 1988 - was transforming into a more sporty, flashy SUV which we have today, but its offroad capabilities were never diminished. That's also why our test car here is so dirty...
    I have to say I like the modern looks of the Vitara - which the Japanese know as the Suzuki Escudo. The vehicle got rid of the square shapes and put on a rather more dashing dress for the times.

    I own this version Vitara. I've previously owned a Defender for ten year's. I would categorise it as a soft roader . I no longer need a vehicle to climb up mountain tracks but a vehicle that can get me home in comfort if the weather turns. If you want an off roader this isn't it. If you want a comfortable everyday drive with a decent 4 wheel drive system when the snow falls ,it's an option.

    Just sold my 1994 vitara for spares ,it was so rusty underneath it failed the MOT bigtime I had it 15 years and it never broke down....... I loved that underpowered bumpy noisy 4x4 with wide wheels... lot of fun .still grieving...

    This car is really a good "all roads" car ; don't hope to climb a wall but you can drive nearly everywhere as I do for photography. I own a Vitara 1.4S manual gear Allgrip and my wife has a Vitara 1.6 benzin, these two cars are perfect and pleasant to drive !

    Absolutely breathtaking sceneries. Great review. Suzuki Vitara is always great and it is a highly under rated vehicle. I do own a fully loaded 2011 Grand Vitara and it is amazing to drive around in any weather conditions. Vitara all the way!

    My Suzuki Swift would go through that water ! Was out driving in the hills today, and a road was flooded on my side of the road, and all the cars in front went on the wrong side to avoid it. I just slowed down and went straight through. No problem. Too many drivers have no idea how to drive, or what their car is capable of. We had bad floods in the Bowland area of Lancashire a few months back. A river had burst its banks and flooded the road just before an old stone bridge crossing. I was in a Swift and came down to where it was and had a look at it. A Ford Transit van was waiting in front of me, and yes it looked quite bad but I said to the driver he would get through it easily as I used to have the same model of van, and knew how deep you could wade. He got through with no problem driving slowly. I followed and I admit it probably did look scary to the drivers sat waiting behind me as it was at least a foot deep, and there was a hell of a lot of water coming across the road. Its was quite fast moving and my other half was a bit worried but she knew I had experience of this type of situation many times before, I went slowly, didn't create a wave and no fuss and bother. I waved to the cars behind to come across and they said they wouldn't have tried it if I hadn't gone first. It was a rather long detour to go any other way, so we had no option really. The best bit was a woman sat in a big SUV on the other side, just sitting there in a state of panic. She had a proper AWD expensive car, more than capable yet she didnt have a clue what to do. Thats my point. I had a new diesel Panda 4x4 a few years ago, and you wont believe how deep you can wade in that. Seriously, I had water on a flooded tidal road go half way up my doors, and hitting the front of the bonnet. I just put it in first gear and let the drivetrain pull me along with hardly any pressure on the accelerator to keep the speed as slow as possible and it was a LONG stretch of road, quite nerve racking actually and half way through I did think it was probably a bit stupid, but it got through with no problem at all. That was a fun day :)

    Obviously the reviewer does not know much about off roading. No, this modern Vitara does not have as good capabilities as the older versions. Because the new version is made to be better and more comfortable on road, its ground clearance is also less than before thus, diminishing its off road capabilities when it comes to water wading and going through very rocky tracks.
    In its category it remains fairly capable if you get the AllGrip version and it will bring you occasionally off the beaten tracks to your camping site in the nature. However, for frequent and serious off roading, better get a real off roader.
    Don't get me wrong, this is still a very good all around car that has decent on and off road capabilities and a good level of equipment regarding the price. I don't see any better car in this category of compact SUV at this price range. Dacia Duster is very good off road too, slightly cheaper but less equipped. Compact SUVs from VW group are good too if you get the AWD versions (but Suzuki's AllGrup system remains better), but are much more expensive. And most of other brands just don't propose an AWD system in this category (and when they do, it's not as capable).

  • @elave16
    @elave16 Před 5 lety +1

    Outside the e-lsd the new vitara is much worse than the old one off road. And the lock button locks the CENTER DIFF, NOT THE DIFFERENTIALS. an awd has 3 diffs. Center, front and back. On a 4wd vehicle the transfer case has no DIFF. That's why the old vitara was part time 4wd. Locking the center diff makes this vitara behave like the old one.

  • @kasthurithilagamkasthurith112

    I have a vitara brezza zdi plus and there is no difference between this one and mine apart from the body model and design and this one has a much powerful engine than mine and this is also suitable for off roading whereas mine is not

    • @Pit-Stop
      @Pit-Stop  Před 5 lety +2

      There's quite a few more differences between them as well. The Vitara has knee and side air bags as well as disc brakes all around, LED headlights, various electronic stability aids, radar cruise control amongst other things while the Brezza does not. The Brezza, on the other hand, has a bit more ground clearance, which would technically make it more suitable for off-roading.

    Very nicely equipped and capable car the Vitara, but my god it's comparatively boring to look at on the outside. Despite some redeeming angles, if you gave a kid a crayon and said draw an SUV, it would look pretty much like this shape, generic and blocky. And that dash looks like something from the 1950s, with modern tech jammed in.
    It's little wonder Suzuki dried up in North America. Shame too because they're still some of the best bang for the buck you can buy.
