Potting soil is a no no. Ingredients float !. Try it in a bowl. Add the " soil " you want to use. If adding tap water be sure to age it or use drops. Stir. If soil still floats, we'll be glad you didn't put it in tank ! Don't use any fertilizer products or soil with fertilizer in it.
We know sand is a type of soil but can't he just sand.Instead of soil...Because people who are new for growing fishes would understand that it is sand not soil.If they by mistakenly add soil ,the fish tank would get dirty and if the soil is contaminated by plastic it can cause harm to the fishes.I know that the shopkeeper would tell them about this but not everyone does that.
i mean it will work, just wash sand before. as for aqua soil, no need to wash it, will be alright as is, so guy probably refers to aqua soil and not potting soil aka dirt. and yeah u can’t add potting soil because dirted tanks need to be capped with huge layer of sand, but regardless no one would even decide to add dirt into filled running tank
I would think that one of the main reasons to not add potting soil to an aquarium is because alot of potting soils come with fertilizers. Which would be very toxic for your fish.
@@mcgee1864 u can read about dirted tanks, i never done these but lots of people have success with them. aqua soil costs more but also way more convenient to use
I think 90% of the people skipped their environment/geography classes. Q: What is soil? A: Soil is the loose surface material that covers most land. It consists of inorganic particles and organic matter. Soil provides the structural support for plants used in agriculture and is also their source of water and nutrients. Soils vary greatly in their chemical and physical properties. Q: How many types of soil are there? A: Soil can be categorised into sand, clay, silt, peat, chalk and loam types of soil based on the dominating size of the particles within a soil. Q: What type of soil is sand? A: The first type of soil is sand. It consists of small particles of weathered rock. Sandy soils are one of the poorest types of soil for growing plants because it has very low nutrients and poor water holding capacity, which makes it hard for the plant's roots to absorb water.
Geology* Theres no classes or if there is they definitely dont teach people the difference between soil and sand because its common sense. It might have been lost in translation or engagement baiting.
People, sand is a type of soil. The 4 most common types of soil are Sand, Silt, Clay, and Gravel. Loam is a mixture of these types that includes a significant % of clay.
if outside sand make sure u bake it first.. kills off parasites, bug, and other microbes.. do this with rocks logs and anything else from outside.. not sure on times been while since had fish
Wanna clarify something for the comment section, sand IS a type of soil. Dirt is another type of soil. In this video they use SAND, because dirt would make the water muddy and dirty. But the narrator still is not wrong. Sand is soil.
Can't tell you how many times I've accidentally covered corals with sand when I needed a bio boost in a large tank.. wish I knew this trick.. I'd wait overnight, or more, and gently turkey baste off the sediment. Corals didn't open for days.. 😮💨
not soil, but sand!

Sand not soil, soil would become muddy unlike sand which reacts well with water.
Well it doesn’t react at all that’s why it works lmao
Depending on the sand it does, but usually it doesn't @Lolz43083

In an agriculture sense they are separate things.
