She was the first American Idol winner back in 2002. She was amazing and she’s still is.
She has stated that she really didn't like this song. She didn't feel it was her. As part of her winning contract she had to cut this single...she had no choice. And she was also forced to work with collaborators she couldn't stand (Dr. Luke). She refused a co-writing credit on the song "My Life Would Suck Without You" that she worked on with him. She lost hundreds of thousands of dollars. As soon as she could she took control of her career and hit the stratosphere. I am really impressed how she stood up for herself and took control of her career.
I didn't know that. I really liked this song. Hate she had to go through that other crap though.
I remember reading that when the song came out. The first song that American Idol winners release isn't written by the winner, so they don't have any control over what the song that they are singing. Also Dr. Luke has a terrible reputation in the music industry. Kesha accused him of raping her. That's what her song "Praying" is about.
It’s sad she doesn’t like this song. But, man.... it was the PERFECT song for the first American Idol. I def think part of what won her that season was her performance of this song.

She was young then. She’s also had more time to practice and mature her instrument as well as she’s had kids, and that will change you based on how long it takes you to adjust your diaphragm muscles and hormones. She’s also classically operatically trained from her younger years which is probably why you heard a strong, mature, but different voice here. Love her! She literally can sing anything and has.
I love this reaction because Kelly has grown so much since then, but yes to answer your question, she was the inaugural American Idol. The very first one. And still is a powerhouse woman of our time. XO

I still remember when she won American idol and then immediately sang this song, at one point she started crying while singing (the part where she’s fanning her face in the clip). It was a great moment because you could see how much it meant to her. I love her!

Kelly did a rendition of Aretha Franklins' "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman" as one of her songs while on 'Idol'. Whether you react to it or not is your choice, BUT, Aretha got a note to her saying something to the effect; "Damn Girl!" It still is one of the greatest moments in 'American Idol' history! After that every artist that sang that song was compared to Kelly, and they couldn't measure up.

@@candiniedzielski7263 kelly's now estranged husband Brandon's father Narvel was married to Reba from 1989-2015 so she was his stepmom from age 13 to just a few years ago. while she might not technically be kelly's mother in law it's close enough.

That first time at the end of the American Idol was incredible. She was so shocked and struggled to sing it, but it was an amazing moment
I noticed a change in my voice (singing) after I had my daughter. My doctor told me that it has something to do with hormones during the pregnancy. He said that some women lose an octave or so. I don’t know but maybe that is what you are hearing. Kelly has had at least 2 kids.
Not to mention she's 15 years older. Women's voices change with age too, but absolutely about having kids. That paired with age, definitely changed her octaves.

Yes she started in American Idol (was the first American Idol winner) but doesn’t like performing this song, as it was written for the winner of the show, no matter who it would’ve been. Love the song and her either way❤️

With vocal training her voice should be as strong or stronger, however as a singer ages their vocal chords may get weaker/thinner so she may not have the range she used to, but her mid range will remain strong and full.
She is classically trained ...
