Check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder.
Could also be a loose resister in the dash.
A very common issue relates to the Brake Pad Wear indicator, which has been known to flicker or come on at random intervals, regardless of the condition of the brake pads themselves. This problem is caused almost exclusively by a loose resistor within the dash cluster.
On the back of the cluster there is a small rectangular box moulded into the plastic near the temperature gauge. Open up the cluster, and on the circuit board, directly opposite this 'box', just clear of the temperature gauge, you will see the two soldered joints that hold a large 220 ohm resistor, housed in the box, in place. These joints have been in poor condition on every cluster, except for those that have already been resoldered.
A little bit of fresh solder and the application of a hot soldering iron, and the job's done.

Hey bro, was wondering if you found a solution, I’m having this issue down here for a long time, and based on what does this light come on and off ?

Hi, yes problem was in poor soldering on resistor in instrument cluster.
Here is update video where I explain how I fixed it! 😉

Bad connecting from sensor to the main connector , check the main connector where the sensor is plugged , I’ve the same I changed the main connector and solved it .

That weird design with the bulb going out and the alternator charging also applies to the Opel Kadetts and Monzas of the same era. It has been a long time but if I remember correctly that system operated on a open loop system. One small bit of contact across the sensor and light is on. I recall the wires being cut and twisted together to create a closed loop, people would come back and the light back on because technicians didn't solder the wires and a build up of rust in the wires would cause a bad connection and the light would come back on. I always found it odd that there was only 2 sensors. One on the front wheel and another on the opposite back wheel. I think the location of these sensors stayed the same on both right and left hand drive cars. I know on the early e30 333i there was no abs. A customer fitted an aftermarket abs system which created all sorts of issues. We used to always keep e30 rear disc's in stock because warped disc's was a common issue with the hand brake being applied on hot disc's causing them to warp. Good luck I'm sure you will fix the issue. Sorry if the reply is a bit vague it's been long time since I worked on an e30.

E30 zone wiki. Use it. And cross reference with realoem and then your parts dealer. I prefer fcpeuro

are you sure it doesn't have sensors on the front calipers? maybe someone deleted them.. if not then didn't you say you have switched out your dash a few times.. did you switch it with a model that is for a car with sensors and you have no sensors? ........ but that is what that light is for it senses if the front pads need to be replaced and there should be a sensor on your caliper if your car should have it.
