You know I'm 61 and I read that when JC walked into a room full of people or stepped off a plane on any continent there was a reverence for the Man in Black......
I am 70 yrs old. I don't remember seeing johnny cash looking that young, but my folks were somewhat fans of his music, I most likely did. I have long memories of a lot of 1950's personalities, including this song which came to mind just a few minutes ago. I was thinking it went to at least 8 or 9 feet, but I guess not. Anyway, I was really shocked to see Johnny that young. Though I have memories of his contemporaries that young and even younger.
No one forget the huge thanks we owe June Carter for keeping Johnny true to himself. What I see here is a man tremendously burdened and fearful of his own upbringing and failures, turning them into the sort of universal truth that saves millions, and June made him strong enough to sing them out loud.
You can tell the grip that drugs had on John in this video. But it's more like he didn't use them to get high....more like to just get by....you can tell the pain he's going through with the drug struggle. June, gotta love you for saving that boy!
He doesn't half kick up the voice when it's 5 feet high and rising, it's moments like this that made him a man in black... Personally I'd love to know what was going through his mind. Many a time he was lost but he never seemed to loose his way.
'Lots of love for Johnny Cash. A giant. June said no matter who was on stage - no matter how famous, glittering, hit-making - they just about disappeared when John walked on the stage.
You could tell she was upset with him in this video, though..even though she did save him..he made her angry, knowing she loved him is what made her angry..it does make you angry seeing someone destroy themselves..been through it myself and gave up on them because they cared more about their drugs and alcohol than me..
I love these old songs about their younger days. If you close your eyes and listen it's almost like you are right back there with them. Johnny, June and Elvis will always hold a place in my heart. When music was great. Side note, I have a picture of my Uncle with Jonny and June. It's something I cherish.

My parents lived through the same flood. My dad lived a good way from the river so they just got stranded for a few weeks till the water went down. My mom however lived about 4 city blocks from the river and her house was completely under water. She spent a week living in a funeral home and everything they couldn't carry either washed away or had to be burned
Always have liked this old song, but this video is the best version I have seen or heard. Too bad nobody is capable of writing anything like that nowadays.

Brings me back to to the big flood on the old Miss. Back in 1965 I think it's still a record ... Everyday the difference on the radio played this song and everyday the river rose higher ...Think of this song every time I'm in or see footage of floods ...
Johnny Cash wrote some great songs but He also sang alot of great covers! I always admired that about Him. He wasnt so proud as to not sing other folks songs.
Joiner Arkansas is my hometown I went to school at Wilson from 1st to 12th. Dyess is about 6 miles from joiner going gravel roads. I new a man who lived in his house for a few years. Joiner is hometown to alvin bennett who started the chimkmonks. His farm benwood was next to our farm . Him and my dad were friends so everytime they had a new album he would bring us one.
My parents saw Cash in concert, it was in his early days, not sure when but it wasn’t long after I was born which was ‘62. They said that when the curtain opened, he was sitting on a stool, he was so stoned that all he did was sit there, apparently people started booing him and that was about it for the concert. My mother was annoyed and my Dad said he could of cared less anyhow.
Its sad to see how drugs can mess people up. He's barely functional but he had a great talent. Probably could have done so much more with himself! Interesting to say the least.
This boy in the late '40s remembers folks tapping their cigarettes on one end or the other before lipping the top and lighting up. They are all mysteriously dead now.
All great musicians were troubled and had problems that let them write the songs that you all listen and judge today. But said. If you dont have emotion you can't write a good song.
Jesus Christ is our Savior! I was laying here my head was hurting boy . I said Jesus make my head stop hurting ? Why is it hurting?I am supposed to ask Why or be able to answer . Why my head be hurting!
Wow! Yep, Johnny was pretty "high" in this clip and for this show, yikes! And he looks AWFUL. What a difference between this and his live performance on his TV show later on in the 70's after he got off the drugs, at least for a time. Great clip though of course and thank you so much for posting this!
@123213184 More than that, in my opinion. The work of Johnny Cash is truly "Americana," in a gender-defying way few artists can manage. I know rock fans, metal fans, punk fans, hair band fans, dance club music fans, etc. They ALL dig Johnny Cash.
