  • I’ve taken the newest ‘old’ motorcycle helmets out for a road test: the Shoei Glamster and the Arai Concept-X! In this video I’ll take you through the specifications of these new retro helmets and get stuck into my opinion on how they perform on bike.
    Both of these motorcycle helmets come with a Pinlock anti-fog lens, Emergency Quick Release Cheek pads and a very cool ‘old-school’ appearance. Needless to say, they are both handmade in Japan by two of the best helmet manufacturers in the world!
    Shoei Glamster:
    The Shoei Glamster is a completely new motorcycle helmet in Shoei’s collection. Well, we say new.. But really we mean old! You see, this full face helmet resembles the past glory of Shoei helmets from the 70s & 80s and is a direct homage to the Shoei helmet of that time. This retro helmet gives us the looks from ‘back in the day’ combined with the technology and protection of today!
    Arai Concept-X:
    The Arai Concept-X is a really cool looking ‘old school’ motorcycle helmet, but with a modern twist. Arai is famous for its strong outer shell, and the Concept-X is no exception. Arai uses the extremely hard PB e-cLc outer shell, which allows them to soften the multi-density EPS inner shell - offering better and more ‘comfortable’ impact protection. Arai’s internal ventilation system provides the rider with optimal airflow thanks to the brow vents, chin vents, and the exhaust vents at the rear of the helmet. The Max Vision visor is equipped with a Pinlock anti-fog lens, so you don’t need to worry about condensation.

    I've just picked up a new Concept-X, and I am super happy with it with only a couple of things to note: 1: The visor latch IS fiddly, to start with. I've gotten used to it quickly though, and no problems with my summer gives operating it. I think I might have more of a problem with my winter gloves. Ventilation is excellent, on the move. And is much more quiet than my old Bell, so I'l love to try a really quiet lid some time. 2: However the padding, while an excellent fit once it's on, with the cheek pads going down below my jaw line, and the thick neck pads really keep the helmet in place in the wind, it feels like I'm tearing my face off getting it off. The shell is quite rigid, so doesn't flex much while Im pulling the cheek pads apart. I do NOT want to be taking this on and off for quick trips. I hope it softens a little with use.

    As I expected, the Arai looks better and there are more color options, but only the Shoei will fit my head as I always use Shoei helmets thanks to my oval head. We are the few "lucky" ones with the "Shoei head"...

    Good review there. Not really a comparison but
    How does this Arai Concept X compete against Shoei GT Air 2, wind noise and comfort especially.

    • @FortaMoto
      @FortaMoto  Před 3 lety +3

      Thank you. The GT-Air II has a more aerodynamic shell, slightly tighter fit and is definitely quieter than both of these helmets. Comfort-wise I wouldn't worry about anything, Shoei helmets always do a good job with that.

      @@FortaMoto hi so are you saying the shoei gt air 2 has a tighter fit than the shoei glamster?

    Which was quieter for you?
    I find the Arai Profile X too noisy with those shield mechanism covers on the side of the helmet.
    The Shoei design looks like its quieter, because the shield wraps around the helmet, rather than the other way around with the Arai Profile V where there is an open gap from the front where wind can enter at the shield mechanism cover.

    Do you know if the window viewing area is the same size between the Arai Defiant X helmet and the Arai Concept X? My Defiant X is my winter/cold riding helmet. When it's warm, I use an Arai Classic-V (3/4 helmet). For safety, I'm thinking of getting a full face helmet and taking off the face shield for warm riding use. I like the wide widow area of the Shoei, but love my Arai helmets.

      @TalismanRocks Před 3 lety +1

      Forgot to mention, is that nose piece removable from the Arai? Looks like there is a plastic hump around the nose of the Concept X? My Arai Defiant X does not have the nose guard, hoping it's removable?
