@@SvetoslavBonev It stops at 40m exactly for safety reasons, cause that's the standard limit for recreational diving. People are dumb and will 100% put themselves at risk to see the number go up, and Apple doesn't want to have to deal with that. Same reason why Snapchat limited and then removed the speed filter.

if the Apple Watch ultra does not calculate any saturation, which I need for several dives, and also does not display any decompression times, or deco dives is not accompanied or allowed, it is not relevant for me as a dive computer. every dive computer can do that today (also beyond 40m), and you should be able to do that by then. whether the upcoming app oceanic supports this is not yet known. In any case, the term dive computer is definitely not justified at the moment

The computer that is shown in the video that the dive instructor is using is called the suunto zoop. It is not bright at all and uses a dot matrix screen. I owned this computer 10 years ago and upgraded many times since then. The zoop is a great entry level non air integrated dive computer but comparing the screens would be comparing an OLED TV to a screen on a calculator. Can u download apps for different uses? Can u use it as a payment method like apple pay? Does it measure water temp? Does it track ovulation cycles? Does any diving computer have all of these capabilities? @divesoflo Před rokem +1

@@thefilmfactory4880 That was what I was getting at. Having the Apple Watch next to the Zoop and commenting on the screens was kind of an unfair comparison. The Zoop came out in early 2000, then they relaunched with the word novo attached to it, but essentially it was the same computer. The apple was launched this year so having a 20 year old piece of dive tech next to a smart watch with a 2000 nit screen should look better. The Garmin watches that offer diving functions are on par with the Apple Watch price wise. When air integration is factored in then the price is increased. The Apple Watch is not and will not be air integrated. $800 for a smart watch that does basic recreational diving with no possibility of air integration is not absurd, but there is other options out there.

No. It goes mad after 40 m, and also on the second dive after breaking 40 it does not operate but it requires long no fly time. Happened to me several times, and every time for the second i had to use another computer.

Better use this on land. Use a Garmin Descent MK2i with the wireless air integration option

Or get a Suunto Eon Steel with a big screen you can see at a glance under water and buttons designed to be used with with thick diving gloves. You won't be wearing it as watch anytime soon, but it makes a lot more sense when you're diving. EDIT: It's also a lot more affordable than the garmin, can pick one up with a tank pod for less than the Garmin Descent MK2 without the air integration.

Ok good to know that as i was not aware how it was handling the deco calculations. I was wondering but did not know how it was. Now it is crystal clear, thanks for this video. One more thing that I am eager to find out, a good dive computer is supposed to support mixture gas such trimix, nitrox etc. So will Apple or that 3rd party app be bringing that feature to this watch?

If you're regularly diving to 40m + you probably won't be relying on an old Suunto computer which is quite dull as you say. A lot of divers doing that sort of depth and doing decompression are using Shearwater or OSTC compters which are quite bright.
Of course a dive computer isn't there to warn you that you're running out of no stop time but so that you can manage your decompression.
Don't think I want to pay £80 to subscribe to an untried decompression model. I'll probably stickj to a real dive computer.

“As it should” the watch is rated to 40m, and unless you’re a tech diver you’re not exceeding 30m. The vast majority of rec divers can go on vacation, pay for a month, use their watch, and cancel when they get back.
