- The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is official and here's my hands-on review, plus comparison vs the Z Flip 4 to see if it's worth an upgrade. That UK price starts from £1049, so this new bendy blower is more expensive than the Flip 4 from last year. However, while the camera sensors seem to be the same, Samsung has upgraded many other bits for the Galaxy Z Flip 5. That gap is now minimal, while the cover screen is a lot more usable.
Gamers too will enjoy that cutting-edge performance, which should absolutely smash through Genshin Impact. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has the same size of battery as before, but here's hoping that energy efficient Snapdragon chipset can extend the life a little.
The rest of the specs include a boost to the storage, and a stereo speaker setup. I'll be unboxing and reviewing the Z Flip 5 very shortly, but for now here's a UK hands-on with the new Galaxy foldable and how it compares vs last year's model.

Great video! I look forward to August 11th. I purchased the Z Flip 4 (256gb) and the Galaxy Watch 5 for $600. This morning, I went to the Samsung website, it was only a $94 upgrade to the Z Flip 5 (512gb) model. (the trade in value for z flip 4 is $900). That's not a bad price to double the memory, get a better processor, and have a more prominent front screen.
I was able to get the 512g for the same price of 256g with a full value trade in of my s21+. Its a good upgrade for me to try out this new device! Very excited how this will change my daily usage

Price is still the same because last year was priced at 999 for 128gb. Now it's 256gb. Apple charge £100 more when you pick 256gb over 128gb so I'd say £1049 is reasonable but in a few months, you'll be able to pick up a flip 5 for about 799 max. Or even less if you have a friend who works at Very or Currys that can get you 15% off lol
I got mine on Black Friday, saving me at least $200, and when eligible, I'm probably going to trade mine in for that bigger cover display

Excellent quick, to the point review of the Z Flip 5. LOVE the big front screen. The wife is going to be picking one of these up. Have they fixed the screen cracking issue that was present in the early generations of this phone? We had the first generation that developed the fold crack/failure twice in less than two years. Hopefully that's a thing of the past...
My mother has had the 3 for like a year or two and has had no issues with the screen
The screen protector did start to rip a bit in the middle, but they replaced it for free and it's been fine since

I don’t actually like the big cover screen, I don’t think it looks aesthetically pleasing, it’s another screen to protect and it defeats the point of it being a flip phone in my opinion. I think they struck the right balance with the flip 4.
nah ... it does look good... plus... you cant really protect a screen if you drop it... it will die... becuase of the glass so... for the price... more is better... just say wow amazing and let them evolve the product till they perfect it... then ask for variants... too many bad coments and they might give up... and well flip phones are better for portability

Nice quick overview of the Flip 5. This video confirmed what I'd already been thinking: I'm switching my Flip 4 in favor of a S23+. The Flip 4 was fun while it lasted for me, but turns out its not a device suited to me in the long term.
I have to run two lines. So I chose a great deal on a Flip 4 for signing up for Spectrum Mobile. My wife and I have a great plan on a grandfathered t-mobile plan. I used a s22 ultra, but then thought I'd try the iPhone 14 pro. Gave it three months. No, no, no. I just don't get the fanaticism. Keyboard was the worst offender for me.
Today? Upgraded to a s23 ultra on t-mo, and just traded my newish Flip 4 for the 5. I'm very, very happy with the Flip 4 in all respects but the camera. I'm hoping the newer processing will make a noticeable improvement.
Whatever the case, the cameras on the s23 ultra are excellent, and the battery life is MUCH better than my s22 ultra.
I have the S21 Ultra since like 4 months (bought it used) and am sooo in love with it. Battery lasts me all day and camera's are superb ❤🎉

I would've loved to see Genshin being played on the small screen. That would be hella funny but interesting because you can play at the the lowest settings and not see it that accurately.
But as cool as these flip phones look, I don't think it has much practical use than aesthetic use. Smaller battery and extra money. But definitely interested to see what all this leads to.
Still comfortable using my zflip 4. Think I'll keep it for another 3 years along with my google pixel 6a
The upgrade to flip 5 is worth it. Samsung will give u 900 dollars trade in credit. That's 60-100 dollars or less to upgrade your phone plus free covers or earbuds.

I am curious to see if the larger outside screen hits the battery life compared to the 4. I love my 4, but Samsung has a deal for an upgrade for just 99 bucks. Tempting. Would love anyones advice.
A review I read suggested that the upgraded OS might be more battery efficient so that bigger screen might end up being a wash on battery power. I know the battery is the same size. Also, if you can do more with the phone closed, you might not open it as much.

Not really a fan of that screen on the outside. I prefer it with less of one as I’m pretty sure I will scratch it and I like the look of it without. I’m probably going to get a 4 though as this hopefully will make the 4s price quite a bit more affordable
The accessory companies will make a screen protector for the outside screen as part of the package if that is your only concern.

What is the price of a work of wonder? Basically, though the price is beyond me it is fair by the way is there now a difference between a bendy and a foldable phone? As for watching videos on the tinny screen well that's handy for previewing videos before you hit the download icon ever notice how those big screens reflect on glass and betray you in public. Anyway it's great that these phones are getting more Powerful this means better quality outdoor and library webcums. Great introductory review.

Call me crazy, but I don't really consider the addition of the large cover screen an upgrade. Sort of goes against what the original point of a flip phone was. Im sure the TikTok generation will love it, but part of what was great about the folding devices is that it encourages you to use your device less often.
Only reason I like them small but yet bigger screen. I want to get rid of my iPhone mini now it hurts my hands 😂
If ur able to use the exterior screen more, then it'd use less battery than if u used the interior screen since it's smaller
So it's good for simple tasks like checking notifications, weather, listening to music or navigating with maps like on the motorola flip. I don't think the z flip can do dat atm
If you need hardware restrictions to use your device less, then you have a problem with yourself, not with the device. Where self-control has disappeared, the device is not a heroin.

With the fold it makes sense, because you get a huge display for media and multitasking, but with the flip, it kind of renders it redundant.

Yes. It's a folded. Anything being opened and closed over and over will show a cease.

5:00 - I'd likely be one of the people who would watch videos on the tiny screen! Sometimes I just wanna plop my phone aside and mostly listen to a video but occasionally glance at it, and I tend to watch a lot of videos featuring video games I'm familiar with, so I don't really need to see much to know what's going on. Granted that's a niche case but I'd use it whenever I do chores.
Using the outer display for CZcams is a sneaky way to watch while on the clock at work. 🤷🏽♂️

they're offering 300-400 usd more than current resale market to trade in my s22 ultra, so I'd say getting this new phone I've anticipated for less than $300 (with all the extra discounts they're offering) makes me happy lol

We all know that the final showdown of the flips this year when everyone starts comparing the Motorola razr 40 ultra (or whatever it is actually called i might have got ot wrong) and the Samsung flip 5.

My reasons for upgrading: Samsung is offering a $900 trade in on the Z Flip 4 bringing the price of an unlocked, 512 GB phone down to $99.99. By the time the Z Flip 6 comes out, my Flip 4 will probably only be worth $400. So, upgrading now and probably upgrading later will save $ overall. I'm assuming the outside screen will allow me to make phone calls w/out opening the phone. Right now the Flip 4 only has this feature with Bixby via voice commands which I don't like to use.
Unless I am reading it wrong (and I hope I am), in Australia the trade appears to be only $300 a bit mean for a Flip 4.
When the ZF3 was coming out, I traded in my S10 direct to Samsung to cut the cost in half. Since then, every year I've been trading in the Z Flips back to them for $900. Getting the latest Z Flip every year for 100 bucks is the best. 🤑👍

I personally wouldn't by the Z Flip 5 or even the previous model for various reasons. I just went from my trusty S20FE 5g to S23 Ultra with £200 UK cashback and free Buds2 Pro for same cost of the base Z Flip model. The cameras are basically the same as on the S20FE minus the telephoto lens. Yes the second screen is useful but I prefer the candy bar style anyway.
I wish the screen/phone was wider than the flip4, like not the front screen but the overall phone screen when opened. I have S21 ultra and not only is the screen wider but the slightly curved edges make it look even bigger. I'll either get flip5 or S23 ultra but I don't have a use for the pen it comes with so idk. My flip4 was stolen in November last year (wherever that c*nt is I hope you suffer) so I won't be getting a new phone this year anyway. But I'll be waiting your next video on flip5!!

There are many people that like to connect to Bluetooth and then listen to the contents on CZcams (some news and talking) and not necessarily look into the details in the video. That is why that small monitor can watch CZcams... Plus it makes the phone more competitive.... At least some other phone can do that too!!

The ZF3 was criticized for its battery life and camera. I had it back then, and while the claims were true, those never bothered me personally.
You could probably get a ZF3 cheap today, but in my opinion it wouldn't be worth your time. The ZF4 later improved on those issues, but if you went for that you'd eventually just be wishing you had gotten the ZF5 instead.
So bloody tempted to upgrade from the flip 4. I love the flip 4, but the trade in deal is OK in the UK and it would move storage from 256 to 512. Just need to now start the process of softening my wife up and to decide if this is a good upgrade or to change the tab s7+ for a tab s9 ultra (which would be a bigger upgrade)...The kids can sort out their own finances - they're teenage, time for a job

Yes, now there is room for the dialpad on the cover screen. Samsung's product website shows an image of the widget for it.

I have a Z Flip 4, and want to trade it in for the Z Flip 5, has anyone else ever done it before? And is it legitimate?
The generous direct trade-in program to Samsung is legit. I've used it twice, for the ZF3 and ZF4. They send you the phone, you wipe your old phone logins and data on your old phone, then send the old phone back to them in the same box you received. They complete the transaction once they check your phone's condition.
The important part is making sure you are 100% correctly wiping your old phone of any and all logins. It's not just tapping the "reset to factory" button.

I watched the the Samsung Unpacked event live this morning. Two observations:
The Sydney Sweeney thing was just cringe.
The focus (pardon the pun) of the Z Flip seems to be selfies. Because the world just doesn't have enough of those, apparently. Personally, I avoid even mirrors when possible, so I can't see myself (pun again) shelling out over 1200CAD to take pictures of myself that nobody wants.
It is crazy that 256Gigabytes of storage costs 100 pounds, I bought a 2TB HDD for 70 dollars, 256GB of phone storage - SD cards, can't cost that much.
Im not very experienced with phones, more with computers, so I might be wrong

Why watch a movie on small screen? To save battery
Small screen video is great for us who sleep watching youtube. Lower battery consumption, dimmer screen while still being able to watch.
The only valid use case of watching videos on the cover screen I see is while travelling in a bus or train when you don't get a seat.
I'm excited for the inclusion of CZcams on the new cover screen because I like to half watch half listen to youtube commentary videos or Critical Role while I'm doing house chores. I've been doing it in flex mode with my Flip 4, but when I close my phone to put it in my pocket to do something that requires me to move all over the house, I can't even listen to the audio anymore since CZcams charges to be able to play it in the background. That won't be an issue with Z Flip 5, because I'll be able to play it on the cover screen which will be about the same size as in flex mode. I personally wouldn't want to watch Netflix on the cover screen, but for CZcams videos that I'm mostly listening to and just occasionally glancing at while doing chores, it's perfect.

I just got my s23ultra last month. It is better than my expectations. I'll buy a flip phone in five years when I sucked life out of my s23 ultra and flip phones are more advanced

Lol I do use the front screen for my F4 to listen to CZcams if I’m on the go. I’ll set it up and continue to listen to it while I’m moving around. So the bigger screen would be nice if you want to see or listen to a video real quick.
As a watcher of anime, I can’t wait to customize the inside and cover screen. Right now I’m obsessed with Spy x Family so I will put everything on the new phone lol

Loved the zflip 3 when I had it but the battery life was trash. Maybe the flip 6 will have a larger battery life

Isn't the pint of having a flip phone is having to open it for the main screen? And yet, here we have a compact phone when close with an ADDITIONAL screen so you *don't* have to flip it open for its main feature of use 🙄

When the Galaxy S21 Ultra released last year, i compared it to the S22 ultra and the difference was so miniscule that it wasn't worth bothering to upgrade, however I've yet to compare it to the S23 ultra and hope that one is worth upgrading.
S23 Ultra is a noticeable upgrade from the S22 Ultra. *I'm still rocking the 22U and no complaints though ❤
