    Lute Works
    Caius Hera-Renaissance Lute
Francesco da Milano was one of the most influential lutenists of all time. His music was copied, published and played by other lutenists more than 100 years after their publication date. Francesco da Milano was lutenist at royal courts as well as the pope court, under several Medici's.
In this recording you can hear the Romanian lutenist Caius Hera playing some of Francesco's most famous pieces, some of them for the first time in Romania.
The lute used it's a Venere model from 1592, replica by lutemaker Lorinczi Gyorgy from Romania, in 2004.
The pieces were recorded in 2014 at Tape6 Studio from Timisoara, Romania. Sound engineer: Bayer Sebastian.

This beautiful music reminds me of a soft gentle wind blowing through trees in autumn in my country. The winds make the leaves dance as they float down to earth. Lovely music beautifully played. Well done!!

I love everything about this album - from the musick, to the sound of the lute, to the way the player plays it. The Lute is bright, yet deep, just as it is angelick yet earthy. The tempo moves forward, but, happily, never with an objectivist's predecided metronomic sense, but, by the moment to moment decision of the player what must be launched and what must be reeled in. Of course, the compositions are very special, for while they have that heavy theoretical sense that the great Italian luteworks tend to have in the 16th century, they are more melodic. The 6 course lute, as do the six string acoustic and classical guitar, has a lot of limitations, yet, listening to this, you would never know it.

Lorinczi Gyorgy, he who made the lute is as big a star as the performer or the composer, this because this lute is a rare 'Renaissance Lute' that can truly sing.

Thank You very much for this upload! This is really great music!
One of the composition is a original version of the song "Pod nebom Golubym" (Under a blue sky) of the Russian composer Boris Grebenshikov.

I absolutely love this recording. But can anyone explain to me why there aren't any grace notes? I ask as a lute beginner. In every method book one is told sooner or later that they are a must in Renaissance lute playing. Just asking. And wondering.

    • @kyuslauten

Thank you for your kind words. In many lute music sources there are some signs for ornaments, especially in dance movements, Francesco da Milano's tablatures seems to lack these elements. But the beautiful part in Renaissance music is that anyone can give his own interpretation to the music, this is just my humble approach. Peace.

A beautiful selection of Milano Lute Music! Thank you, excellent listening along with reading about Renaissance Neo-Platonism. Can you guide me to the tab you used for "De mon triste desplaisir (Richafort)"? I'd like to read through and learn to play this sweet piece of Music.

wat een prachtig instrument, en wat wordt de klank goed weergegeven in deze opname! Maar jammer van die stijve agogiek... ce instrument frumos și cât de bine sunetul este reprodus în această înregistrare! Dar păcat de acel agogic rigid ...
