Yeah, the movies suck, but honestly, I don’t think it’s the worst. I think shows like the Prime Wars trilogy and Transformers Energon were so much worse.

Ok, so when it was uphill? Outside the animated movie what was coincidentally half decent this franchise never has good track record. Personally as objectively good I consider only comic's, original Beast Wars, Prime, Exodus, WfC/FoC games and half of the animated movie.

One of my favorite 80s cartoon. I watched this, GI Joe, He Man, She-Ra, Gen 1 My Little Pony, and pretty much any awesome 80s cartoon.
All of those shows sound cool. Did you also watch the 80s Thundercats & Ninja Turtles?
The writing wasn't exactly Shakespeare.
You should see Beast Wars, much better writting and they literally took quotes from Shakespeare and edited them to fit the plot of Transformers.

To be fair, the Transformers saga had ups and downs even before Michael Bay: between G1 and Beast Wars, there was an inconsequential comic series that was so edgy and violent that no one liked it. And between Transformers Armada and Cybertron it was Energon, who again had divided opinions.

It’s hilarious how much they literally sound like an old married couple.
I believe the official reason why Megatron keeps Starscream around is that Starscream spends a lot of time watching out for anyone else who wants to take over the Decepticons and taking them out. So Megatron keeps him so he only has to watch one backstabber instead of dozens. Plus is the fastest Decepticon, are Megatron's one failing is his lack of speed. I Starscream compliments him in combat.
Besides no one really likes Starscream so Megatron knows no one will follow Starscream.

The reason they don't use the invisibility power is the same reason they don't use the transformation power more around their enemies; most have multiple sensors to just pick them up anyways.

Honestly...I love Dark Of The Moon. It’s story is the most followable, and the characters are actually likeable in my opinion
Ain't got words to describe how much I loved the 80's Cartoon.
I don't know what made me more hyped...the sound effects of them transforming, or the sound effects of the laserfire.

Those things are amazing pieces of work engineering (although cell is better in that department since it doesn’t have 7 layers of kibble and is super cartoon accurate)

Doug sold the Optimus Prime costume years ago for a charity event. I think it was back in 2013-2014. I now have it. He forgot to sign it though! It's a nice costume to have, despite everything.

I do enjoyed Transformers series from the 1984 and the other series from 2000 like Transformers Robot in Disguise, Transformers Armada, Transformers Energon and Transformers Cybertron. That's why I got them all on Complete DVD Collections so I can enjoyed the memories of the series.

So this is the only episode of The Nostalgia Critic without it's titular character, but instead we got Optimus Prime reviewing the first-few episodes of the OG Transformers cartoon in this episode of the Nostalgia Critic, fun. The Top 11 Batman: The Animated Series Episodes where we see the Nostalgia Critic dressing up like Batman from the 1989 movie with the same name before he goes back to himself.

My favorite thing about the old transformers cartoon was the random color changes. I can't remember the episode but Megatron in one was talking to Starscream back and forth and out of nowhere when it cuts back to Starscream his colors are now purple and black like a different decepticon.

NC's Optimus Prime voice is awesome
Peter Cullen (the longtime voice actor who played Optimus Prime in the Transformers film series) did a very excellent job at playing the narrator for a cartoon show called Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Imagine we never got transformers Voltron crossover or the most obvious VOLTRON POWER RANGERS

Not only were the characters of Optimus Prime and Megatron very clearly defined, it was cool to learn that voice acting Legends Peter Cullen and Frank Welker were then, and are still to this day, the closest of friends!
True, there was a lot of cringeworthy dialogue in the first few episodes: Specifically the trash talk that didn’t quite fit the character of Optimus that fans would come to know and love. But in the episodes and seasons that followed, Peter would be able to bring a sense of fatherly compassion and even humor that is sorely missing from the Transformers Prime incarnation.
Peter based his portrayal of Optimus Prime on his older brother Larry: A Marine Corps Captain and Vietnam Veteran. Larry said to him:
“Peter, Don’t be a Hollywood Hero. Be tough enough to be gentle.”
And that’s precisely why so many children’s hearts were broken when Hasbro killed him in the 1986 Movie. To the point where writers like David Wise had to resurrect Prime in a two-part episode that was full of holes, but we loved nonetheless.
Incidentally, you should look up David Wise’s featurette regarding the exhausting process of creating the three-part follow up to The Return of Optimus Prime, called Rebirth! It was originally supposed to be a five-parter! Poor David! I felt so bad for him after watching his recap of the whole process!

Jake Proven What do you mean? If you’re talking about the series, I’m well aware. I grew up with the G1 Transformers. I wouldn’t have researched as much as I did about Peter Cullen if it wasn’t for the intelligence, compassion and uniqueness he poured into his portrayal of Optimus Prime.
If you’re referring to this review, I was commenting on something that Doug said towards the end of it. At 21:28, to be precise. I’m not attacking you, by the way.
Honestly, it’s the GOOD (to separate them from crap like TF Energon) TF cartoons like Beast Wars, Animated, and Prime, that handled character development much better than this show. Even the 80s Marvel US and UK comics, and the IDW comics, which is most likely the best example of character development.
I disagree. Optimus could be fatherly and humorous in Prime, particularly towards the humans. "Then for a while, we shall have to watch our steps". Or when he briefly talks to that general in that filler "the story so far" episode
floricel_112 I think I might have spoken too definitively regarding TF Prime. I should have said *”In my opinion,”* the balance of humor with compassion and heroism seemed to be missing from TF Prime. “Primes don’t party.” and all that. Though I do remember Optimus telling Rafael that he’d bring him back a snowball.
TF Prime was more sophisticated as well, but I guess it’s because I’m an 80s Child that the whimsy and wisdom of Transformers G1 will always resonate a bit closer to my heart.
Take *Countdown to Extinction* for example. The way Optimus laughs as he says, “Your aim’s improving, Megatron!” You can literally hear the smile in Peter’s voice as he recites that line!

And that isn't a theory. Hasbro sign deal with Paramount in 2015, and it initially include G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. and Rom. But I expect that it could be expanded, and probably unofficially include new Transformers movies or other properties. New GI Joe and Micornauts movie is planed on 2020. Anyway, crazy shit is coming ;D

PSS: They also recently obtain Power Rangers, but I doubt it would be officially related (what is quite funny because unofficially Super Sentai is canon in Marvel ;)

Are you guys going to do anything for the Bumblebee movie? It's directed by the guy who made Kubo and Coraline. What they've shown in the trailers so far looks very G1. Albeit those G1 looking Cybertron scenes may only take up a small part of the movie... they still look cool. Regardless I'm excited to hear what you guys might have to say about it, if you do. Keep up the good work, and thank you for re-uploading one of my favorite videos :D
