    I feel the anime tie in is good for attracting new players, but as we all know modern yugioh's is fueled by older players money. I think they realized having an anime is just extra costs when they can just release the 10th dark magician version for the old players which will play and buy whatever they decide is gonna be meta next.

      Look around your locals and 99% of the players are people in the age range to have grown up or gotten into it off the DM anime. Every anime has done progressively worse/not been as popular, Yugioh has the aging player base problem and I still think Rush Duels is Konami's answer to this. As a Gundam/Gunpla fan i've seen this Bandai realized that the Gundam/Gunpla fan base was aging so they came out with the build fight series and AGE to bring in a younger audience

    Correct me if I’m wrong but one of the writers for Vrains stated that they had trouble writing ways for Soulburner to lose due to how his deck worked. If that is the case that may be a huge factor as to why we haven’t gotten a new anime as decks have become so consistent and powerful that they are difficult to write stories for that satisfying, progress the story yet don’t drag out compared to Rush Duels.
    I know people would say just reboot Duel Monsters but if you ask them to write duels like it is now then the problem still remains unless you are going to carefully curate which modern cards would be seen.
    Personally I think they should go the route of OCG Structures for new anime as the franchise has so many archetypes to make engaging stories from. They don’t need to make full episodes but like how Pokémon generations handle it. If they are gonna reboot it then start all the way from the first volume which never made its way to the West in an animated form so that’s at least a different experience.

    Vrains I feel showed a lot of the cracks in making a new non-Rush anime and it has to do with the game itself, it's so fundamental that I think it sent a message to Konami that the game is probably not very anime-friendly.
    Putting aside the... Other problems with Studio Gallop's later anime series, the card game is too combo-oriented and swingy for an anime to be a sort of accurate representation of the game that also sells competitive players new cards. There are episodes in Vrains that have Yusaku comboing off for ten minutes then a "to be continued" and this sort of pacing was fairly consistent across the entire series. This is also why Rush Duel anime are probably more easy for Konami to support, since they CAN fit whole duels in 15 minutes of screentime.
    OCG Structures is a series that dedicates basically 100% of its page space to just showing the duels and even in that they regularly skip the combos because they simply aren't interesting.
    I think that a "DM Reboot" wouldn't really solve the issue of bringing in new people since that also would be telling people, "Here's more nostalgia for people who are into the game."

      @forget3100 Před měsícem +2

    • @JanizMakudomaru
      @JanizMakudomaru Před měsícem +5

      @@forget3100 That's still a problem because Maxx C has you drawing everytime the opponent special summons. That means that they are going to have to waste time making multiple scenes of the person drawing right after the special summon and someone has to make a comment on it which is more episode filler. Then you're having to run the risk of the other hand trap bs being a part of that mix since that is what a lot of meta decks do now. Which creates the biggest problem of all being having everyone use the exact same cards in the exact same way for every duel that goes down with little variation on the strategies. It's a reason why some people don't particularly find Duel Monsters fun to watch and/or play irl, it's too homogenized.

    The anime absence does have a huge tie in, but rather i think what Yugioh is missing is the niche archetypes that are playable. We are, in my opinion getting better slowly, but we aren't back in Edison were you could play something like gravekeepers against viyu turbo or dad and expect to win at least some of your games. If you aren't playing a top 3 deck in Yugiohs current state, you will lose 90% of your duels. Another reason the anime is important is that it allows writers to get creative with the game. Things like contact fusion, accel synchro, double tuning, etc. Were all things coined by the anime and evolved the game when they were brought in. The anime is an absolute necessity as it promotes innovation and game development. Without it, well I think you can look at the game right now and see for yourselves. Nostalgia sets and unchecked power creep from lore piles with 10+ game warping decks that all work way to well together giving a big middle finger to the people buying the nostalgia stuff.

    • @yurisei6732
      @yurisei6732 Před měsícem +6

      The creativity of mechanics used has absolutely no relationship to the level of powercreep. Contact fusion could be just as broken as snake eyes, it just happens not to have been yet. I'd also argue we've seen more mechanical creativity outside the anime than inside it. "What if synchros used 2 tuners" really isn't that hard to think of, but in non-anime decks we've seen things like archetypes using the extra deck as if it's a spell zone, archetypes using columns to make a duel feel like a shooting game, archetypes discarding your entire hand for cost, archetypes synchro climbing through 5 steps just because they can, archetypes that transform in battle, archetypes that use the extra monster zone to create a "hero standing alone" vibe, archetypes that can dodge their own skill drains - and hundreds of wacky standalone cards, like one that makes you do algebra for a board wipe.

    The freshness comes from getting new players into the game. A new generation of kids would get introduced to the game with each anime, but because of how kid unfriendly the game is, how can an anime pull them in? While the game is no longer a children's card game, the anime has always been for a younger audience, even the darker shows like 5D's and Vrains.
    And let's be honest. No one would want to see Snake-Eyes or Kastira in a scripted duel, let alone recurring scripted duels, and the character decks that would come from the anime would be stomped by those decks unless they were somehow even more broken.

    I would like a new Yugioh anime to be more of slice of life anime, to start out at least. The protagonist gets introduced to Yugioh and starts with a starter or structure deck from their local game store. They play table top Yugioh, but with the cool holograms that all the series have used. They slowly start attending locals and eventually a store championship. As their skills approve, they try out regionals and larger tournaments. This will show the progression of actual duelists starting at locals and working there way up and the struggles of competition while still having the fun duels and maybe a few blowouts just like modern dueling.
    This kind of progression would be similar to what early Cardfight Vanguard was. I think Konami can balance some of real-world dueling scenarios with some cool fantastical monster animationa that all the previous series had.
    I also would not mind a lore based anime on something like the Albaz or world legacy lore. It would definitely be unique and standout from the other animes.

    I actually would agree with you on this one, Paul. An anime would be greatly appreciated by; First, older as well as new players. My take on a new anime is have it be all interconnected with each universe: DM, Gx, 5D's and so on. It is stated in Duel Links that the Yu-Gi-Ohverse is a multiverse.
    So have the overarching plot be kind of like a Xenoverse 2-type situation, we have a protagonist, with his own main character ace monster, I was thinking on Chronicle Magician or either Nightmare Magician being his ace, or both as the story progresses. We have a best friend character who's strong in their own right, the best girl who's not the later aspects of Yu-Gi-Oh stereotypes, the rival, who's just the tsundere other best friend, and the villain(s): But! Just like Xenoverse 2, have them go from universe to universe causing trouble or changing history for the worse and their own benefit.
    Like, let's say the villain travels to the Duelist Kingdom era and participates in the tournament, as well as messes with duels, especially players decks, like let's say the Yugi vs Weevil Underwood duel, Weevil uses generic insect cards and equip spells to power up his insects, and his win condition is using Cocoon of Evolution on Larvae Moth to "try" and evolve it into Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth, or just Great Moth in that duel. What if, along with Weevil using his Cocoon of Evolution combo, he was given the spell card retrain of that card, Cocoon of Ultra-Evolution? Not only that, he has his Equip spells but he also had gotten Bio-Insect Armor, a monster card that acts as an Equip spell for Insects.
    Or the Bandit Keith vs. Joey Wheeler duel in Duelist Kingdom. Keith uses just base Machine-type monsters and equip spells to beat down his opponents as well as using his Barrel Dragon. Wouldn't it be cool if he also had gotten it's retrain, Desperado Barrel Dragon? Or even more, Blowback Dragon and the fusion of both of them, Gatling Dragon? I have ideas, but those are just some off the top of my head.

    Konami could probably do a martial arts/sports themed YGO series where athletes use a new type of dueling tech that's a hologram projector equipped body suit that enhances the human physique with Duel Monster cards. The mystical aspect of the series is that magicians from ancient history used their sorcery to augment human combatants using monster spirits. I dunno, the more I think about it, the more the concept feels like Shaman King, Saint Seiya and JoJo, but with Yu-Gi-Oh! lore.

The characters also need to stand on their own and not be all about the protagonist. Sevens was a great example in that Luke and Romin had their own style of duels and archetypes and never overlaped Yugas style.
    A new series in the OG world where the new kid learns about duel monsters and slowly works his way to the regionals is what is needed. ( also a solid support cast is needed.) It has become unreasonable in every aspect at this point. Price. Time required. IRL play spaces.
    Price is obvious, even rogue costs a fortune because they have multiple 20€ cards you need 3 off often enough, not to mention staples.
    You can argue staples are something you only buy once and be wrong. New staples come out what feels like every other set that also end up costing 25-50-100€ (Mulchumy, Thrust, Little Knight)
    Time required is a huge opportunity cost.
    The game is so complex that unless you know most decks and their cards by heart you can't reasonably and meaningfully interact with them. Sure you can shotgun handtraps and learn as you go, but reading 1-2 cards or even a full set of archetype cards doesn't give you a good understanding of what their gameplan, or more specifically endboard will look like.
    Old yugioh you could sit down blind and still engage meaningfully with your opponents deck, now there is way too much memorization involved, not to mention the mental burden on players to execute the nuanced layered effects IRL.
    You could be doing and learning/studying a lot of other things for less effort.
    IRL Play spaces is just a result of the 2 above. Garbage products close locals. People can't care after what feels like years of tier zero dominance. Had one of the big stores close in the capital recently, they held newbie learning events weekly, bi-weekly locals etc.
    The store died because they couldn't even firesale most yugioh boxes anymore, despite best efforts and the owner can't just waste their time on this forever.

    I feel like there are more hurdles in the way than just an anime, to be fair.
    An anime would indeed help get more people to check out the game, but if the game isn't beginner-friendly then there's no way the newcomers will stick around.
    Take for example, Master Duel. It's undoubtably the most accessible way for a new player to play YGO, but it's player base is slowly shrinking. I think this is due to the fact that the only way you can learn the game on Master Duel is the solo mode. If you want to play real people and play the real game, you need to bring your A game, in which case you'll already know the game, or lose the match in a couple of turns and learn nothing.
    I recently tried MTG for the first time and although the UI and application is worse than Master Duel, MTG:Arena made it VERY easy for me as a newcomer to both learn the game AND play against real people in the process since they had a mode where you could only use one of ten or so starter decks. Yu-Gi-Oh lacks any form of this and and I think the bar for entry is way too high.

    If I was a producer, or wouldn’t be too lazy to write I’d promise a great season 😭

    I don't think an other mainline anime would do that much. The game in its current state is very much dependent on an audience that aged with it. A more realistic possibility is them creating more animations based off the archetype lores we have, which could provide a similar source of onboarding new players based on something they saw. Imagine if an albaz anime just becomes popular, and people find out that they're actually part of a card game you can play

    Idk a better video to get feedback on than this, but ive actually been tinkering with writing my own yugioh story in this exact vain, or rather, in the style of the first 6 series', the idea i had was a disgruntled duelist who is too poor to compete at the higher level with duel disks and at stadiums and such. But she (i chose to use a female protag cuz i thought itd be new and cool) like Yuga, is tech savvy and decides to launch a private server on the yugioh full dive simulator, ive never seen VRAINS but i do wanna pick up the timeline in the future with the tech they had. The idea was that she tests stuff with friends in the private server then would present to Kaiba Corp to try and sell her ideas or get a job as a dev. Theres also other plotlines that go on in the background with other characters that would eventually lead to an end of civilization scenario as endgame yugioh usually does. I was even making custom archetypes the characters would use. But they'd also use some tcg stuff as well.
    Some of the stuff to be tested was going to be an advanced form of tag duels where the field is doubled in size along with LP, also a renewed deck master mechanic with special effects depending on what kind of card or monster the DM is originally based off of.
    Additionally, the previous 6 Yugioh anime exist in world but serve as a sort of documentary series instead of an entertainment anime. So everyone knows the exploits of previous legendary duelists and their aces.
    The first round of deck master cards is actually based off of ace monsters of those legendary duelists.
    Im still working on creating my own unique summoning mechanic cuz i wanna push my creativity here.
    Im open to feedback and constructive criticism. Maybe ill release it as a sort of visual audio drama sort of thing on youtube sometime. Or in visual novel format with duels recorded in a simulator or somethin, who knows. Lemme know what you guys think.
    If anyone from APS reads this, thanks a lot for the time and curiosity

    Can we write this new anime? I want one that explores the slowly expanding lore of Duel Links. There is potential there that could be mined, and it can put spotlights on Speed and Rush format. I have archetype ideas that are aware of DL format and can thrive in OCG/TCG format. It can even result in some good retrains of original release cards that sucked, like most of the co-link dependent OG link monsters.

    honestly them making anime based off the "lore" blocks could be cool as well.... because a branded arc would be kinda sweet.
    Seeing Sky strikers.
    or
    the current Diabelstar and snake eyes.

    This feels like a canary in the coal mine that Konami does not see a future for the game. It’s gotten too complex and new-player-unfriendly that they just stopped their main way to onboard new players. There’s always a crop of new children watching weekend cartoons
