The SCARLET MACAWS in Costa Rica are certainly making a successful comeback. We hear them flying over our house in the jungle with their raucous calls more than we see them. The real challenge is the repopulation of the more endangered GREEEN MACAWS on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.

As a bird breeder, rescuer and rehabilitator I can throughly say those macaws were very healthy, the chop, ie food they gave them is very healthy. Bird owners or people thinking about getting birds make sure you do your research and know what food is healthy. For example fruits veggies and small amounts of seeds. A full seed diet is unhealthy and will shorten your birds lifespan if you do a straight seed diet their whole lives

also birds absolutely hate being in small cages, I have 15 birds of al types and even the smallest finch hates going into even medium sized cages, let alone p[utting a big bird in a small cage

I own a rescued Green-winged Macaw. I am impressed how easily Coyote caught that one, and can be a testament to how loud Macaws are.

Parrots are the best creatures out there are some parrots you can tell the difference between boy and by they looks and some parrots look the same. I was glad to hear it was a girl parrot. Parrots are intellgent and they so a lot for the enviroment.

I have a lovebird and we try to outstubborn each other when he tries to bite me. It's not often, but I don't flinch away. Lovebirds have bigger beaks than budgie, but I can't say anything about bite force. I don't remember being bitten by one ever.
Anyway, once he found out that it doesn't work, he doesn't really bite me anymore. I also use a spray bottle if he feels especially petty and doesn't listen to verbal commands. (I don't spray it, but holding it is warning enough)
@Wattle I did mention that I don't spray it. It just behaves when I hold it. It doesn't even fear it and regularly uses it as a perch next to my laptop. It's filled with water and I use it to clean the poop
@Wattle Try that logic when you own a 132 pound dog that can kill a small child by just playing. No punishment logic is the reason pets get taken down when they bite. "He has never done this before!" Won't save fido when he runs full speed towards a kid and throws him across the park.

I love birds so much. I once had a pet cockteil, named Cornelius. He was a rescue bird, and a wonderful chap. He's since passed on, but I've been doing a lot of research about the red and green macaw, and plan on adopting one from a bird sanctuary.
