2018 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring & Carrera T - (Two Takes)
Vložit
- čas přidán 5. 08. 2018
- In this video, Matt Farah and noted Porsche collector and enthusiast Spike Feresten hit the canyons in a pair of Porsche's newest enthusiast-focused models ending with the letter T: The Carrera T, and the GT3-T, both for Touring. The $175,000 (as tested) GT3-T is a very special car; absolutely belonging in the "buy and hold" department. But the Carrera T is no slouch either; its engineered lightness and choice combination of performance options mean this "entry level" model is truly oriented towards the kind of folks who want a GT3 but can't get one.
Check out Spike's Podcast, 'Spike's Car Radio' at Podcast One!
www.podcastone.com/spikes-car...
Porsche Cars, North America, provided the Carrera T, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review. Spike just showed up, and got nothing for it.
Now this is THE formula for the new matt videos:
-two comparable cars
-host + guest
-seat swaps
PS. I know that i just kinda described head2head, but that's where it's at...
João Duarte thought the same thing but Matt isn't about effort
It sounds like a good idea but some owners of cool cars are not good drivers. You don't want to sit with someone through the canyons if you don't know how well they can drive. One rookie mistake and you're off the side of a cliff.
KvnS S you're right about that, but I meant the guest to be someone from the business (another jornalist, car collector or racing driver)
😂😂👍
Yes! Very good format, but only on occasion when it is gonna be awesome. Otherwise stick to your usual format
Why all the hate on this guy. I don’t get it. He has 3 Porsche’s and his opinion is valid and he’s a solid driver.
CCFerrariF1 it’s the fetishization of specs to the point that he considers some owners real enthusiasts and others not. It’s his hate towards others. He buys and sells a lot so he cares about the secondary market preferences-which is fine-but he takes it to such a point that he’s putting down other car guys.
people are haters; simple as that.
CCFerrariF1 the guy is also a legitimate straight up comedy legend. If the guy who wrote The soup nazi wants to talk, you let him talk.
I just wish Matt would have let him talk more! Matt kept talking when he was talking
All his talk about carbon ceramic brakes in the beginning of this video made him look like a sleazy salesman. Never knew this guy and now I want to avoid his podcast.
I attended Porsche Driving School at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend. We drove the 911 GTS, 911 Turbo S, Panamera Turbo, Cayman and Boxster S. The only car they did not have was the T. The GTS was the star on the track but the Turbo S was a blast during the launch control segments. We did not get to drive the GT3 but at the end of the day, pro drivers took us for hot laps. I really wanted a GT3, but after a "real" lap in a GT3, I decided I don't need that. It was a true holy sh!t experience. Also, don't knock the Cayenne. they have a great off road course and that vehicle could do things that were absolutely amazing.
How did the Boxster do?
Pretty funny all these people in the comments without a clue who Spike is and don't realize they're good buddies. You would think Matt letting him drive would have tipped them off. Spike has been on Matt's podcasts and Matt is almost a permanent fixture on Spikes podcast. This was an awesome episode.
Absolutely. Even if you don't know Spike, Matt never gets in the passenger seat unless he's very comfortable with the driver. And Spike definitely knows his Porsches.
Zanpa ya he definitely does. When they talked about doing this car swap on Spikes podcast I was hoping Matt would have him in the video and very glad he was.
I don't care, or know, who the hell he is. He's annoying as fuck and can't drive for shit.
FuelAaron Would like Da Zuckerman to be in a vid, he is hilarious.....
Trey Quattro agree, who the hell cares. I don't even give a damn about celebs let alone some you tuber that has a channel, big freakin deal, his opinion happens to differ from mine and many other racers and porschephiles I know. Just cause you have a GT3 doesn't make your word the last word. I tend to like Matts way of car talk vs others. (Even as a car fanatic, I can admit that most dudes that talk cars just sound like total kooks and kind of creepy nerdy, which is why I resist from talking too much car talk around the ladies, especially Porsche talk). Matt and especially Chris Harris do a great job with it, most others don't. And holy hell, can someone please learn to drive?
I love it when you guys collaborate on each others' podcasts. I also thoroughly enjoyed this video. Do more together please.
Came back for a re-watch. What a great formula. 2 stellar hosts, with a ton of knowledge and experience between them. Spike and Matt drive Porsches should be a regular show!
That GT3 Touring is exactly how I'd spec one. Beautiful car!
I saw one in midnight blue with silver wheels on another review video. Drool.
These Carbon Ceramic brakes look good … but they are horribly expensive to replace once worn off: talking about over 30k (!) for four discs with brake pads. This is insane …but you have no other option when the time has come!
I love the POV camera angle, focusing on the experience and not only on the driver's face.
I actually like this guy, good connection between you guys. I honestly value his input a lot.
jalloor Yep! Me too. He knows his stuff..
Do you two actual know who that is ??? He should be the only voice your listen to about Porsche, well jerry too.... when you figure it out you’ll get it
Just listened to Spike's Car Radio with Matt as the guest... talking about this video. And then here it is. Great stuff.
I happily watched every minute of this one. Please do the 911R vs the GT3 Touring as well. It also made it really great having Spike with you, great dialogue.
this is one of the best episodes! Entertaining, funny and informative
Loved the way you guys did this video. Hope to see more like this
Great one (two) take! I enjoyed Spike's input and his comedy
i actually really enjoyed this review with spike he seems like a fun down to earth guy
unlike some of these guys, I love having Spike in the video, it makes the video less of a review and more of a discussion about the car. Hope you have him back, Matt!
Oh Matthew, you've only gone and distracted me all morning, no work done at all. First the Podcast Q&A and now this! Ace!
Porsche guys in Porsches getting Porsche noises. Love finally seeing you, Spiiiike!
Great review of the GT3touring. My fav porsche. I enjoyed spike and his tv show driving different cars with a car buyer and buyer has to pick one of the three. Thanks for the ride!
I love this format. You should bring Spike in for more videos
That GT3 sounds like angels screaming wow I can’t get over that sound
Porsche! Driver swaps! Let's a-keep these Two Takes coming!
2 hosts trying to talk at the same time was a bit annoying to me
Man...you two are excellent together! Thanks for the video!
Finally found this vid. Awesome, what a great care Spike.
The T isn't that much lighter, but I still think it's a cool package and I really liked this video. If I was shopping for one, I think the way to do it is to go as hardcore as possible with the weight reduction- no back seat, carbon buckets, radio delete...
That GT3-T looks so damn good in that color.
Matt going just a little bit quicker than usual to quieten that guy down a bit : )
MrGeza88 100% he wont shut the fuck up...
😂😂😂😂
Spike has had his own car shows, a podcast, and even a late-night show. He wrote for David Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld. He and Matt also have more camaraderie than most other one take passengers. I say let him talk. LOL
Quicker the Zach on the best day that’s the only thing I don’t like about the guy Matt’s limits are a lot higher then his hopefully he gets better with age Matt give me more of what I’d experience at 8/10ths where zach is like 4/10ths
don’t care if he’s famous, he’s fucking annoying lol
my last big purchase in my lifetime , some sort of modern, decent 911, they are all good to some degree, and every owner I talked to, Love their 911
Love the rotary reference about the high revs! Respect! I'm a former rotary owner (87 RX7 and 93 RX7) and now a 911 991.2 Carrer S owner.
Just used the 3 Seashells reference today at work! Coincidence! And no one knew what I was talking about. LOL
Loved the video. You guys had great chemistry!
Watching this in honor of the 992 GT3 Touring getting announced today. What an engine. Geezus!
The gt3 is the most glorious sounding car in existence at the moment. Spine chilling. Not that the touring is a slouch, it sounds like a 911 should as well. Nice review guys.
Spike is a legend. Love both of your podcasts. Great video for a fan!
Great vid. Interesting comparison. Special TV production points to Matt for wearing Matte lenses in his sunglasses.
Love the GT3 T, you don't need lift IMO, Ceramics nice. Lift is seen as necessary for resale in the UK, so is needed as everyone thinks you need it ! Anyone used to drive low cars doesn't need it.
Great video. Would be awesome to do more in this format- Spike, Zack, Rogan, etc!
Great video Matt. Not sure if you have experienced The No lift shifts in the GT3 but it is epic. The new manual GT3 gearbox comes out of the box and even without pressing the sport bottom with power shifts feature allowing you to keep your foot buried into the gas pedal while shifting into the next gear, giving you perfect shift at 9000 rpm redline and similar to PDK shifts. Again great video. Mark
What? That sounds like an amazing feature. Do you own one?
Nice one Matt. Glad Spike joined you in a video.
These two are dynamic as all hell together. One of the best One Takes.
TheHvk agree! One of the best takes ever! The comrades and the cars made the video for sure!
Great video, looking forward to my Touring!
Great chat gents very enjoyable, some very interesting and valid points raised.
The weight difference / feel you're talking about will simply be down to the springs and relative stiffness. Has such a profound effect on any car.
Good video to wake up to. Amazing cars. Love both
Great video. Been waiting for this comparison.
Awesome vid; and, great crossing-guard seatbelts.
Love how much variation different 6 cylinder setups have in the sound. You can tell a V8 is a V8, but probably you can't tell which make and model it is
if you listen to enough V8s, yes, you can easily tell the difference between an LS, a F136 from a Ferrari, the same engine in a Maserati or Alfa, or a Ford stroker.
Fantastic video, really helpful since I'm going to have trouble deciding between these two.... In 10 years....
Daniel Wang gt3. 9k redline is glorious 😎
I have PCCB on my Cayman GTS. It's always worth it. The lack of brake dust alone is a blessing!
With Turbos coming to the GT3 soon, I'm hoping that it'll still sound sharp inside. The Carrera T does not sound all that bad already. Nothing compared to the 4.0L but sadly, that chapter will close soon.
Been waiting for this now for awhile... Didn't disappoint.
That chalk color is beautiful. I’d take the Carrera T but the GT3 touring is an amazing looking and sounding car.
It annoys me that people believe that the Carrera T is significantly lighter than the normal Carrera. It’s 44 pounds lighter without backseats. So this example is within a few pounds of a normal Carrera.
but it's got an LSD unlike the base Carrera
The T has more sport options standard
It really grinds your gears eh
The weight isn't that big of a deal. It's much more how light it FEELS than how light it IS. The LSD, PASM, sport suspension, and most importantly, rear steer (not available on Carrera) add an extra level of agility to the Carrera T you don't get with the base car. Sure, it's a nuanced difference, but a difference nonetheless.
Exactly. This is more marketing hype from Porsche.
Great video guys. enjoy your podcasts as well. Trying to decide Base vs Carrera T. Do you think the Limited slip diff and shorter rearend make the T worthwhile?
I just test drove a Base and have really got the bug for a 911. Thanks again for yall's content.
Got one in the same spec but with 918-seats!! I think it must one of the greatest modern 911s.
A lot of hard core track guys like the steel brakes due to cost of maintenance. Something to keep in mind 👊 Great channel Matt! You can also tune the T and make it Hella fast for way way way less money.
Agree. I track both my gt3 and 911. There is little advantage to the carbon brakes . You avoid some fade with the carbons if it is 110 degrees in Palm Springs after 30 laps. But carbons are otherwise just grabby. Like you said. And fabulously expensive to service. No way they are worth it. Even if you get half your money back when you sell. Which I won’t ever do.
On the other hand, the front lift seems, at first, ridiculous . But I would have worn my front end off if I didn’t have it.
Enjoyed that nice to see both your opinions each car
I love my Porsche Boxster but a manual GT3 is goals!!
Love your Porsche vids!
Spikes and awesome addition, would love to see this regularly. I really expected you guys to hate the T.
I expected Spike to love it, I'm more surprised Matt likes it honestly. But it looks like there's more to it than just the cloth door handles after all.
What watch is that you’re wearing, Matt? Also, loved this video, the banter between you and Spike was really entertaining and these were some awesome cars. Thanks!
Regarding the ceramic brake noise on the GT3, I wonder if the passenger side rotors suffered from side-of-road debris contamination at some point in their service life. Pure speculation on my part. Always fun to hear some 911 goodness and "keep it basic" with a $175k car makes me chuckle.
The comparison should also include the 911 GTS. How that model positions against GT3 Touring and Carrrera T. What about also the Carrera S?
I think they should of put the S 420hp enfine in the T..I have 2 porsches; 2017 718-S and a 2017 Macan GTS-love them both. Porsche builds fun and reliability! Great vids dude...Bullitt was a great 70's movie, btw...
Can anyone explain to me why on second hand market ceramic brakes are so desired. I feel like I would still perfer steel brakes since I might go to the track several times with the car.
This was really good!👍
Incorrect Spike, the T is not for people that can’t afford a GT, I have a .2 GT3RS Weissach and I love my manual T! The perfect road car 👍👍
It's amazing how people jump on the hate wagon once they see one comment. I wasn't a fan of this Spike either, but he did nothing to deserve being labeled a D bag or accused of ruining the video. He provided the car so you wouldn't have this video without him. Chill people.
Snow_White_MR2 I’ve never seen anyone in a smoking tire video put down other cars and owners like this guy.
Michael Cohen Did it offend you snowflake?
tedious twat
@@mdcohen I've never seen a hypocrite as blatant as you. You reply to OP that Spike is putting people down then u turn around and call someone a twat... you are literally cancer.
Way to rep the Nat'l Forest Sign! I bought a FiST and the first place I ran it was in Zion! Pikes Peak was closed 🤙
@thesmokingtire did you really just call yourself a "hardcore porsche enthusiast"! welcome, we've been waiting for you!
(love the Gold Turtle!)
Matt, Spike and Bill should go on a Porsche Road trip. I think it would be a hell of a video.
As to the seventh gear you can get to it from 6th or 5th
Great video, you made me make up my mind
Great video guys.
Awesome content!
do these two cars have the same wheels and suspension? if the gt3 is "lighter on its feet" it could explain that the upper part of the car feels heavier, if someone with more experience than me could explain I would be thankful
Matt, always enjoy your videos - but please put a polarizer filter on your camera. The reflection of the dashboard is bad. (Or put the cam outside)
Matt - nice video and two great drivers car - There are Carrera T owners who got more than 500 horses easy from the base T engine and with some small mods to go with that - you have a very powerful and fun car
It would be amazing if you could get your hands on one of those PLEASE -:)
Anders Jensen That was the comment I was looking for! The GT3 T is obviously the better car, but you can match the HP and get much more TQ even with the Carrera T (small turbos) engine. Also, another advantage of the Carrera T buy is that you can get optional itens only available for the “S” model, like the torque vectoring. That’s why I bought one and because I can’t afford a GTS or a GT3 T or so many superior Porsche models. Ahah
“Special brakes” (PCCB) are awesome but when it comes time to replace them ... ouch. Which will likely be the 2nd owner’s responsibility. Just like me with my M6. After two track sessions I went from 60k mi life expectancy to only 14k mi. I just hadddd to take it on track to see what it could do though. Question is: replace with CCB next time or swap to steel? Hmmmm.
Good video, little awkward for the both of you for him to mention not crashing it
this video was funny as hell. good vid bro
The famous Porsche windshield glare. No joke.
7th gear is awesome for cruising at a steady 200 plus kph on the autobahn :)
Touring GT3 is definitely the version of GT3 I’d take
This vid is just full of famous last words
This video proves a pretty big win for the T. I mean for almost half the money you can have 85% of the GT3 car -- Not bad! I liked this passenger, too, he was fun (not sure why all the other negative comments). He helped Matt look less bored than many of his other videos.
Uh huh, uh huh same logic gets u a Mustang too ; )
The main problem with ceramic brakes is not the upfront cost or the sqeauling, it’s having to replace TWO rotors at around $30K with labor when a stone chips one rotor, or the mechanic nicks it changing your wheels. I would never be able to relax having these brakes.
Great intro Zack
My palms get a little sweaty watching Spike in the cockpit
Spike! I hope you go to my bud Will Lee's (@PTSRS) car show during car week
I kinda agree with Matts statement...the base car is fundamentally the same. The T is for enthusiasts to feel special inside. Rolling into cars and coffee then winking at other old men sounds creepy though...
A loaded AWD S or GTS with PDK gets my pick. Ultimately a turbo S if I could afford it. I like fast planted cars optimized for daily use. GT3 or T is the other side of that philosophy.
Matt, Spike...you've done yourselves a dis-service by missing out on the main, major reason why the Carrera T is so good to drive? The lower gearing which makes the turbo-lag dis appear and makes the engine seem very keen.
No WAY! I just saw one of these at copart salvage auction. I made a video on it too
loved this vid
Carrera T has a great interior sound and feel unlike the base carrera...
21:08 = rev limit
Thanks for this video !
@Beauchee Well spotted. Ouch ! When I bought my steed from a non Porsche specialist, they wouldn't touch cars that had hit the limiter more than twice (they were rightly wary of cars that had been tracked and driven by Orangutans on the rev limiter, causing potential engine damage). Their mechanical sensitivity always resonated with me. (P.S. I'm not suggesting anyone on the channel is orange or has long arms).
This was great.
He's right about my hatchback turbo motor, it does die at the top end 😔
Very cool, but how annoying is the auto rev match feature? Is it true you have to be in track mode to disable it?
Awesome video, Matt! Stupid, irrelevant question, but what's the watch you are wearing?
Can you fully disable auto-rev match on the T manual?
