I love how well the choreography conveys that Goku has no chance in hell. Even the hits he lands are a minor annoyance, and Jiren wins every single head-to-head exchange with decisive blows. It's a fantastic battle.

But when this episode came out I was in complete awe. Goku just kept popping back up but Jiren just kept rushing and overpowering through everything. Its always like people never watch the show, he does catch Jiren off guard with the 20x kaioken, he escapes his grasp, almost hits him with his energy blast, dodges his attacks. Its just Jiren was that much higher in power then Goku, Jiren doesn't fight with his energy level being the same as his enemies, if you noticed JIren powered up after he had to block gokus punsch in sg form, but Jiren makes sure his Power is well beyound his enemies to man handle them. His job was to not defeat Goku yet to make him his woman and the rest of the universes would loose the will to fight, I figure from they said was the plan.

It was part of the theme that this saga was about. Which is "Breaking their limits''. The Saiyans, especially Goku and Vegeta, had to go all out to be pushed to what they can stand and then overcome it to reach new levels of power. Jiren serves that purpose, beautifully.

I like how we get a general feel for Jirens power with each transformation: Base and Ss1: Nothing felt at all Ss2: That’s the bare minimum to get even the slightest reaction out of him. Ssg: That’s enough power to warrant a modicum of self defense. Ssb (with Kaioken) : That’s actually where Jiren has to put honest effort into the fight, and the point where Jiren HAS to keep careful not to let his guard down, lest he take a hit that hurts, even if there’s no way in hell that can beat him alone.
Even for his SSG Kaioken x20, Jiren was on suppressed power. And actually the effort was bare minimal considering how fast he was finishing the fight. MUI is the only transformation that can actually keep up on Jiren.
he probably got nerfed so much at the last of tournament, when he fought with No.17 Vegeta and Goku if would had the same over power as he used to, so there is no need to power up to fight them.

Base form: attack doesn't even touch him SS1: Hits him but deals 0 damage SS2: It pushes Jiren a little (love how Goku notices this and it immediately tells him that Jiren isn't invincible) SSG: Jiren can block his attacks with a finger or 2 (but he DOES block, Jiren actually acknowledges the attacks) SSB: Jiren has to dodge Goku's attacks, but Goku misses every attack and Jiren lands all of his SSB+Kaioken: Goku is able to dodge and land a few hits

0:10-0:13 JIREN's cold but scary eyes facing GOKU's extreme tension seemed to freeze the whole stage for everyone to witness the confrontation between the two strongest warriors. I still get chills at this scene even after 5 years
I love this first round. It really just shows how nervous Goku is. He understand how immense fully powerful Jiren is, so when he goes Blue, he really does try and get him out as quickly as possible. Frantically attacking. Its neat writing!
I think my favorite part about this whole first fight is that everyone else in the tournament had stopping fighting just to see who would win between Goku and Jiren
I love it how Goku smiles when he manages to move Jiren by two centimetres with that neck kick. In the face of a brick wall, he smiles and gets down to work, no matter how hopeless the situation looks. Amazing.
I prefer one piece to DB but I knew gear 5 was never going to break the internet because one piece manga fans don’t know how to shut up spoiled it about a year before it came out. Nobody saw UI coming. That broke the internet
Im not a hater for One Piece, but those "fans" were screaming everywhere how Gear 5 was gonna surpass SSJ on Namek and MUI, they were full of themselves.
Damn this really is a cool fight. I love how Goku rapidly advances through his forms trying not to overdo himself but realizing it's not enough. Not to mention their up-close staredown remniscent of the beginning of the Cell Games.
2:25 has to be my favorite scene. The way the camera is shaking like they're moving and clashing so fast while everyone is just watching in awe plus that satisfying jet noise like they're going insanely fast for anybody to see their movements. Incredible.
Nice and quick way to showcase the powerlevel at play: - Base Form? Does not even reach - SSJ1? Reaches, but not worth even blocking - SSJ2? Barely able to move his head, if he hits a weak point like the neck -SSJ Red? Just about worth blocking with a finger. - SSJ Blue? Can actually move him, if the enemy allows himself to be hit. - SSJ Blue Kaioken? Minimal effort fight.

But you gotta be pretty naive to convince yourself that one arc with ocasional really well choreographed , animated and well drawn fights EVENS OUT a clear majority or at least half of complete mediocre quality The ToP was fun and it had some of the best moments of the entire FRANCHISE both as in events as well as animation quality, but Super was struggling HARD for wayyyy too long. The first 24 episodes with like 4 exceptions are pure shit and the Revival of F arc was some of the worst we've seen in modern anime. The U6 arc was okayish and really not memorable at all besides Hit and maybe Cabba. Black arc started phenomenally but the ending was dogshit, Vegito was disrespected as hell and Goku acting like a retarded toddler for half the arc took it's "seriousness" away . Not to mention that blue little shit resolved all . And the ToP had REALLY bad writing overall. Super was fun, but if you look at it objectively, it had 1 "good" arc with ok animation(Black), 2 pathetic attempts at animation with shitty choreography(Beerus and RoF), 1 decently animated but forgetable arc(U6) and the ToP, that had both great and horrendously animated moments. TL;DR: the ToP was fun and had good quality but it doesn't make up for the bad shit with mediocre quality that Super had been for a long time.

joker graham He hardly ever uses 3 in super because it constantly drains his stamina and he has two other forms (SSG and SSB) with far more power and far better ki/stamina control. Not only is ssj3 a waste of ki, it's also far weaker than his God forms. So it no longer benefits him to use it, that's why he often jumps from ssj2 to SSG or blue. In other words as much as it pains me to say it, ssj3 is an utterly useless transformation now. If Goku can t beat somebody using ssj2 then it makes much more sense for him to jump straight to his God forms rather than turning ssj3 and wasting all of his energy.
It's caused that the pepole who made this anime said that it's hard for them make as long hair as ssj3 because their movement is hard to looks realistic. Sry for my english btw.

I think why this fight is so badass, is because they're both Good guys. It's like Hector vs Achilles in Troy. You actually like both characters, but you getta see "The most powerful fighter in all universes", fight against the hero you grew up watching since you were in grade school. The build up has been years and years. So awesome.
Jiren was determined to have this tournament be completely hopeless for everyone against him. He was determined to not even really fight . Nobody was supposed to be able to touch him or get him to budge an inch, so every time he had to react more was a win for Goku. Jiren had every intention of finishing the fight really fast without breaking a sweat, but Goku earned Jiren's respect when he showed he could take his hits, and even counter attack immediately and forced Jiren to fight seriously.

I love it how Goku smiles when he manages to move Jiren by two centimetres with that neck kick. In the face of a brick wall, he smiles and gets down to work, no matter how hopeless the situation looks. Amazing.

Damn this really is a cool fight. I love how Goku rapidly advances through his forms trying not to overdo himself but realizing it's not enough. Not to mention their up-close staredown remniscent of the beginning of the Cell Games.
I’d hardly call something a fight when the other guy is barely moving.

- SSJ Blue Kaioken? Minimal effort fight.

But you gotta be pretty naive to convince yourself that one arc with ocasional really well choreographed , animated and well drawn fights EVENS OUT a clear majority or at least half of complete mediocre quality
The ToP was fun and it had some of the best moments of the entire FRANCHISE both as in events as well as animation quality, but Super was struggling HARD for wayyyy too long. The first 24 episodes with like 4 exceptions are pure shit and the Revival of F arc was some of the worst we've seen in modern anime.
The U6 arc was okayish and really not memorable at all besides Hit and maybe Cabba.
Black arc started phenomenally but the ending was dogshit, Vegito was disrespected as hell and Goku acting like a retarded toddler for half the arc took it's "seriousness" away . Not to mention that blue little shit resolved all .
And the ToP had REALLY bad writing overall.
Super was fun, but if you look at it objectively, it had 1 "good" arc with ok animation(Black), 2 pathetic attempts at animation with shitty choreography(Beerus and RoF), 1 decently animated but forgetable arc(U6) and the ToP, that had both great and horrendously animated moments.
TL;DR: the ToP was fun and had good quality but it doesn't make up for the bad shit with mediocre quality that Super had been for a long time.

Never seen Goku absolutely rag dolled like this. Jiren didn’t even break a sweat at all here. To say it took a Devine form to beat a mortal just speak volumes at how insane and astronomical Jiren’s power was.

joker graham He hardly ever uses 3 in super because it constantly drains his stamina and he has two other forms (SSG and SSB) with far more power and far better ki/stamina control. Not only is ssj3 a waste of ki, it's also far weaker than his God forms. So it no longer benefits him to use it, that's why he often jumps from ssj2 to SSG or blue.
In other words as much as it pains me to say it, ssj3 is an utterly useless transformation now. If Goku can t beat somebody using ssj2 then it makes much more sense for him to jump straight to his God forms rather than turning ssj3 and wasting all of his energy.

It’s probably also they fact that, by that movie, they had more or less caught up to the levels of raw power Jiren showed during the TOP (which in itself is still not his full extent given the “no killing” rule that prevented him from just up and slaughtering EVERYONE on a whim)…
What Vegeta was realizing was the sheer efficiency and self-discipline Jiren has to commit to using his insane might to his fullest. As calm and aware a, while making sure he doesn’t waste ANYTHING with unnecessary motions or expenditures of energy.

I think why this fight is so badass, is because they're both Good guys. It's like Hector vs Achilles in Troy. You actually like both characters, but you getta see "The most powerful fighter in all universes", fight against the hero you grew up watching since you were in grade school. The build up has been years and years. So awesome.

Jiren was determined to have this tournament be completely hopeless for everyone against him. He was determined to not even really fight . Nobody was supposed to be able to touch him or get him to budge an inch, so every time he had to react more was a win for Goku. Jiren had every intention of finishing the fight really fast without breaking a sweat, but Goku earned Jiren's respect when he showed he could take his hits, and even counter attack immediately and forced Jiren to fight seriously.
