    the best thing i like in DPP: 1. is possible to load the picture style installed in the camera like cinestyle and marvel. (others software like lightroom and capture one does not load). this is the main good thing that DPP does. 2. lens optimizer. the bad thind about DPP is that it is not a software more complete like lightroom or capture one. maybe you guys (canon) could improve the software to be more complete like the 2 ones mentioned above!!! it will be a miracle!!! lots of people will migrate to DPP.

      It depends on what adjustments you are making. You will get the most options when using a RAW file. Items in the first adjustment tab (Basic Image Adjustments) are only available in RAW images. If you watch this video closely, the last example image of a sunset was done on a .JPG file while the others were RAW (.CR2) files.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  Před 8 lety

      Hi Wendy! While there are many fine-tune color adjustments that can be made in DPP, it isn't possible to swap out the sky or background for something else. ~ML

    • @DilanGilluly
      @DilanGilluly Před 7 lety +2

      That's why I recommend to use the manufacturer's software for editing their raw files, and Canon is no different. I've tried to use both Lightroom and Rawtherapee to edit raw files from my Powershot S110. Neither of them gives me the results that DPP does. I think it's because the manufacturers know how to process raw files from their own cameras better than Adobe, or the OSS community. But using the OEM software can get confusing if you own cameras from other companies as well. The rest of my family likes to use Nikon cameras so I have their software on my computers as well to help them with edits. Canon's and Nikon's programs are a little different and each use different vocabularies for adjustments. Other than that they don't seem to conflict with each other so it doesn't hurt to have them both installed on the same computers.
      As far as swapping out a sky, that's probably something for a post processing application. You can pull each raw shot into DPP, get the adjustments from each shot the way you want to. Then export to JPEG. Then you can use Photoshop or the GIMP to make the actual swap work. RAW conversion software like DPP and Lightroom isn't really geared towards complete editing such as that.

    I've been using DPP 4.7.21 to edit some nightscapes. I've noticed a lot of hot/stuck pixels (red and blue pixels) in the images, 100's in fact that render the images unusable. I took the images with my Canon 6D using settings approximating Av 2.8, Tv 30 sec, ISO 800 in fairly warm ambient temperatures. Is there a way to use DPP 4 to edit out the stuck pixels? I've see Adobe Light Room automatically do this, I've also heard that DPP4 can remove stuck pixels when converting RAW to TIFF, but I cannon find any further information or dialogue menus in DPP4 to actually do this. Additionally, I took dark frames shortly after my nightscape exposures so I also have dark frames that display the same stuck pixels - is there a dark frame subtraction workflow or similar?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  Před 6 lety

      Hi Mark. Noise and hot/stuck pixels are sometimes unavoidable given certain shooting conditions, such as long exposures, higher ISO speeds and elevated temperatures. Making adjustments for these or using the camera's built-in noise reduction settings can help. When editing a RAW image in DPP 4, it is possible to apply noise reduction there too. However, DPP does not have a tool for the removal of hot/stuck pixels. We hope this information helps!

    • @markhiggins8071
      @markhiggins8071 Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the reply. Given that it is hard to remove these artifacts in DPP4 post are there any recommendation you can make to reduce their occurrence in the first place when undertaking long exposures/nightscapes? Would running an auto or manual sensor cleaning on the camera during the shoot while the sensor is hot reduce the number of stuck pixels? Also would using the camera's built in Noise Reduction features in anyway reduce the quality or negatively impact image quality at night, in particular wide angle astrophotography?

    So why is it That when I shoot in Raw and do some editing to the image it saves it to the Pc as a JPEG like it supposed to do but when I try and send it to a Sd Card it’s sending it as like I never did any editing to the photo ???? It’s really driving me nuts !!! I’ve been shooting In JPEG for some time now and learning the Camera and now I wanna take it to the next level and shot Raw+jpeg and wow 😮 I’m in love with the RAW files !! So bright and alive right off the Bat !! Now i can’t get them to save to a Sd card ☹️😢

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  Před 6 lety

      Hi there! RAW is an uncompressed format containing all of the original image data. When you edit a RAW, the changes you make are only appended to the RAW file. It isn't until you process the RAW into a JPEG that the changes are actually applied. When you move an edited RAW file to an SD card, the edits are there, but not applied to the image, so you won't see them like you would a JPEG. This preservation of image data is helpful, giving you the most data to work with for editing, and allowing you to revisit the image to make other changes or process the image differently down the road. We hope this helps clarify things.

      Hi, Chaitra! Digital Photo Professional allows you to save copies of your edited photos as JPG and TIF files. The original RAW file is never actually modified, though you can save the adjustments you make to each photo. @CanonUSA  Před 6 lety

      Hi Julius! The settings you are trying to change are only available when editing a RAW (CR2) image. If you're editing a JPEG, those settings are not available. We hope this helps!

      Is there another way to edit the JPEG photos? Being a new user, it would have been nice to know previous to taking over 1,000 on a family vacation that I now cannot edit the way needed be.

      @@mizutsuki4463 this is probably too late now to answer your question but you set the RAW file on your DSLR camera then you can edit them using DPP4.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  Před 9 lety

      Ali L Hello Ali L, First we need to make sure the camera files you are using are compatible with DPP4. Digital Photo Professional 4 only supports raw and jpeg image files taken with the Rebel T6s, Rebel T6i, EOS 1D-C, EOS 1D-Mark IV, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 6D, EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 70D, Rebel T5i, Rebel SL1 and the EOS M3. Files from any other camera are not supported. If you are using one of these cameras and are having issues and you are in the United States, please contact our US based, tech support team at bit.ly/ContactCanon for assistance. We hope you find this helpful.

    • @angelalz
      @angelalz Před 9 lety

      Hi, I installed this program from my new 5dMark III package so i don't know if it's DPP4, but it's DPP for sure. and I open the JPEG file I saved from a Raw photo because it's post processed by PS already. Due to the sharpness I decided to use DPP cuz it can make it even sharper, but once I saved as or converted to save it won't save the changes I made on sharpness. Is it because I did it in a wrong way? I opened the link you provided, I can't find contact number for DPP thou :(

      @CanonUSA  Před 6 lety

      Hi there! Digital Photo Professional 4 does allow for the editing of RAW files, but it only supports the RAW files from specific models. What camera were the RAW files you are trying to edit taken with?

    • @yearbookycis3566

      Thank you for replying! Both the EOS 1300D and the EOS 80D are supported by DPP 4. Since you're unable to edit the RAW images, our support experts in your area can help determine why. Please reach out to them by going to Canon.us/jjml and selecting the appropriate region and country for support options. We hope this helps!

    DPP has some serious limitations which none of these videos are addressing.
    First it doesn't think black or white are colours.
    Secondly the "area select" tool is hopelessly cumbersome and unusable.

    Useful video, but I wish he'd stop moving his hands in the bits to camera, especially since the perspective is making his hands look bigger. A little movement is natural, but a professional should know not to let the hands become a distraction. In order to hear what he is saying, I literally have to look away from the screen, and it's a relief when he switches to the screen view.
    I hope Canon didn't pay somebody to _teach_ him to do that.
