- I watched/read a 1000+ chapters and episodes of one piece in less then a year because I had nothing better to do... Now I love it, but why did I do this to myself?
Anyways let me talk about what I think so far after catching up after almost just a year!

It took me about 3 months to catch up to one piece and that time of my life was no other experience I’ve ever had it was amazing
i did the same thing earlier this year. started at episode 1 and marathoned the entire show and all movies in 2 months :D

What did you like about it?
So fun fact: Oda has said that he thinks up an in depth backstory for literally every character he introduces in the story it's just that the majority of them dont actually make it in. For example, everyone loves Senoir Pink from Dressrosa because of his backstory but Oda only included it because one of his editors happened to read it in Oda's notes and liked it so much he told Oda he HAD to include it in the arc.
So that means the man is just sitting on potentially HUNDREDS of backstories like Senoir Pink's. You cant convince me Oda is not a genius.
He's also fully known the ending since he started it. What he's done and is doing is insanity.
I'm a full time student, my friend group completely fell apart, so instead of making a new one I watched all of One Piece in 5 months. No regrets, my new favorite series.
One Piece was the last choice of anime I watched during Covid. Before that, I watched all the popular anime such as Naruto, Bleach, JoJo, AOT Season 1, Black Clover, Fairy Tail, Hunter X Hunter, Fate/Zero, Re:Zero, My Hero Academia, Hajime no Ippo, Assassination Classroom, Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, etc... I was never a fan of anime and never watch anime before Covid. During Covid, I started watching Naruto because some of the people in my work recommended it. After that, I watch a lot of anime. I did watch a little part of an episode of One Piece from television once but I have no idea what it is and not interest at all. But after watching a lot of anime, I have nothing good to watch and then I decided to watch One Piece. I didn't even realize how much I like that series. I have no idea how I was so addictive to it but It is my number 1 anime/manga of all time. Maybe because It is fun and I like Luffy being goofy sometimes and sometimes serious. I feel so relax just by seeing their friendship, their journey and funny moments.
I like to think Sanji's perversion comes partially from the drugs that Sanji's mother ingested while she was pregnant to ensure her kids had emotions.
It didn't work for the other siblings, but Sanji seems to have had his emotions Supercharged. He feels everything so much more than anyone else. Both anger and lust.
@@DXDragon38 His brothers do quite literally have those personalities quirks too so those perverse moments can be attributed to the jerma experiments. Still crazy to see him acting out but at least hes not his brothers

One Piece is one of the few stories that I feel it's weird to answer about favorite character
because It just doesn't feel right to give less credit to any of them
Basically everyone is potentially the protagonist in this world, the important message would be conveyed anyways if its them leading the story, Strawhats existence it not a must to tell a good tale, we already have many fantastic backstories happening without them
If Oda wants and time allows it, every lovable character may as well just be the lead in a whole new manga series, and will be just as amazing
The message, symbolism will be the same, because the will is bound to be inherited
I started in October last year and got caught up in February. Also caught up with the manga now. I love it so much I can’t get enough. Being caught up is a blessing and a curse lol
Its wild how insanely long this story is, but there are still so many mysteries we have that could be game changing. Like Nami's REAL past. Her backstory is really good, but the fact of the matter is her and Nojiko were found on some random island in a random war that we know nothing about! When you think of all the random kids that have been found and adopted throughout the story they carry great importance to the world. One day a bomb could possibly drop, and thats just one thing.
@@TheGrossDemon yooo I can’t believe I never thought of this but you are right!! Also makes me wonder about Frankie’s backstory. We know about his life with Tom but not before he was abandoned by his parents who were pirates. Oda just could have had him be abandoned by normal people but I think the fact that he chose to make then pirates could be important. Also idk why but I get a feeling that the identity of robins father will be important in the future .
@@terry10tnji like the Theory about Queen possibly being Frankys Father they both love explaining their creations. Both introduced with Dance routine. theres more but i onky rrmembwr these parts. oh. the Volume cover for Water 7/Ennies lobby has a shit of Franky that is Exactly Framed the same as a Wano Cover with Queen on the cover. its very interesting but idk how much merit it has

At time Franky would have been abandoned is when queen was a part of “MADS” on a traveling ship laboratory with vegapunk, Caesar, and judge. I mean for getting hit with a train as a child franky still survived. That honestly reminds me of germas genetics and sanjis fight with queen. Damn it does really add up the more you think about it lmao I almost wonder if franky is possibly a clone of someone because the stussy clone would have been made around the same time.

Kuma's bible isn't actually a bible. It's his log/travel book. He's always going through it when he asks "where would you go". He's going back through his journeys for the perfect spot to send them based on their answer.

@@michaelelischer1565 for the longest time I thought they might escape Egghead on a rocket and go to the moon before Elbaf. I'm finding that less likely now but yea so much to do. I mean we haven't even seen what the Holy Knights are all about and they were basically just introduced. The original story was supposed to be 5 years then Oda invented the Warlords and let's just say the story got a lil longer.

your thoughts on sanji are mine EXACTLY, thank you!!!! i am SO glad oda finally seems to have toned down his creepyness. he is of course still an incorrigible simp, but i cant remember the last time ive seen him be a *creep* after whole cake island. or even IN whole cake island. i think the whole pudding thing and his family thing might have...."matured" him up a bit and i appreciate it a lot :) also yes, no way that man is completely cis and hetero........iva-san saw SOMETHING in him, didnt he? 😏😇 idk to me it feels like he was really really badly compensating for how he grew up, and somehow that twisted into some really shitty behaviours. but when i think back to wano and whats happened in egghead so far (and i think the arc is basically done now), hes been way better about it all. or at least, oda choose to portray it less annoyingla lmao. when yamato was bathing with the strawhat men after wano, we just saw a little background sanji getting all flustered and shit, but it was miniscule and just part of a bigger panel (also W oda for casual trans rep. i love you kiku). and i think in egghead now he was just fawning over the girls' outfits, which is honestly fair cause they looked really good and the girls seemed like they were super comfortable with it. i hope now till the end of the series, oda will keep up this trend bc this way, when sanji DOES do his simp-thing, its more endearing than disgusting! yay!!!

Okay, so I'm gonna tell you something that took me a long time to learn. There's way more One Piece than anyone suspects, including Oda. He's been saying, "Five more years, tops" since the series began 25-ish years ago.
Bruh they have to go to elbaf, laugh tale, have a war, and wrap up everyones dreams and arcs at a minimum. Oda is putting out around 40 chapters a year now. Theres no way in hell he can wrap it up in 80 chapters or 2 years. Egghead is aboit 80 chapters. Probly more like 5-7 years

This is exactly how it happened for me. But by the time Gear 5 happened, I wasn’t intimidated by the length anymore. 3 campaigns of Critical Role is longer and One Piece was a cake walk in comparison

Now that you're up to date with One Piece, starting Naruto would be a great next step. I grew up in Africa where Naruto was the sole anime I watched from childhood into my teenage years. It was only last year that I began watching Bleach, and then One Piece, where I'm currently engrossed in the Wano Arc, with Momo tasked to prevent Onigashima from falling on the Flower Capital. As someone who has watched all of the Big 3 up to this point, I have to say: Bleach shouldn't be counted among the Big 3. It's the least impressive of the trio, with its only redeeming qualities being the story and characters. While I value the inclusion of well-crafted, formidable black characters, the series lacks depth in its world-building, failing to fully immerse the viewer. Considering the groundwork laid in Bleach 2004, the 2022 comeback with the Thousand Year Blood War Arc is so impactful it almost compensates for the original's shortcomings. The TYBW Arc's debut was so strong it rejuvenated Bleach in the first part of the season. However, with only 24 episodes released, you might prefer watching Naruto for now. Growing up, I only watched Naruto; I could have explored Dragon Ball Z, but I remain unconvinced that it rivals Naruto, despite my friend's enthusiasm for DBZ..Growing up, we were unaware of the One Piece anime; it was only after I caught up with Naruto's War Arc years later that a friend recommended the One Piece manga. Long story short, Naruto had me & my friend group in a chockhold. 😂

However, when it comes to Naruto you have to understand what makes Naruto special is the animation of the fights in it not even One piece comes close I’m sorry, if you think they were throwing hands in JJK, Vinland Saga or any other anime with dope fight scenes, i guarantee they took inspiration from Naruto. 😂 Naruto = Hands. 👊🏾 Boruto on the other hand did a huge disservice for Naruto in general, I wouldn’t recommend watching or even reading Boruto 🤮

She mentioned a character named Rock Lee he's great, despite One Piece and Naruto being two distinctly different animes, they have some subtle similarities. Rock Lee could be considered the Naruto character most similar to Luffy, particularly in their power system since there's no Devil Fruits in Naruto and Luffy had to train to learn Haki, Rock Lee's abilities are somewhat similar to Haki-Luffy's desire to become the King of the Pirates mirrors Rock Lee's determination and hard work. While One Piece is set in a world of pirates and Naruto in a world of ninjas, with Naruto aspiring to be the Hokage, the highest ninja rank, and lastly similarities like not giving up, freedom and chasing your dreams. Started one piece 2 summers ago and I had to skip episodes to be able to keep watching. I knew it would get better but it was hard to keep interest. Honestly I didn’t get hooked until’ the water 7 arc. But Sabaody really got me. Once I was hooked thennn I went back and started watching episodes I skipped, because I knew I wouldn’t stop.

I like his backstory and I like him as a character for the most part but his gag genuinely pisses me off for a lot of the reasons you detail. The Fishman Island arc is soooo detrimental to his character in this aspect. I checked tf out when that happened.
This was fun to watch ! I did the exact same thing minus the manga... I pushed pass the pacinf and filler by watching at 1.5 ~ 2 x speed LOLLL

I just gotta add a bit of theory when it comes to Sanji's raid suit bathhouse incident💀- we see later that the raid suit causes a change in Sanji by changing his anatomy, it could have also changed him emotionally as making all the other Vinsmokes emotionally detached and careless, i feel like the suit would have taken down his boundries and make him act up way more on his urges vs outside the suit- since he has never really gone that far (exeption Alabasta)- (it might just be bathhouses that make him act up💀)
The easiest way to get past the intimidation factor is to simply view it as a 45 episode anime.
If you're not sold by the end of the East Blue saga, just back out. It's just not your thing, and that's fine. Only the most avid fans won't respect your effort, and you'll actually have a decent understanding of what the story is really about, so there's nothing any of us can say that will convince you.
It is a great show though. If you can handle the pacing, the odd bit of cringe and occasional contrivance for plot convenience, it will be one of the most rewarding viewing/ reading experiences of your life

Just like you, I started watching One Piece last August with my brother. We were on vacation and he had just put on the gist episode when I stepped into the room. I figured I would sit around and give it a chance. I am now so caught up in the anime that I had to switch to the manga just to know more of the story, Seeing this pop up on my feed is a real treat. Have you watched Neon Genises Evangelion? It's pretty old but it holds up and Attack on Titan definitely took some inspiration from it so you might like it. Or not. Only one way to find out!

I get why people throw shade at Sanji’s writing in the FMI arc, but it irritates me how most people don’t give Oda credit for being the first mangaka to use the nosebleed as a plot device. Till this day, I honestly believe that was the most unique use of the trope.
The anime that made me watch more different anime was Mob psycho 100.

Been reading since 2001. Never watched the anime, didn't have the patience for it. How long does it take to get into One Piece? The same length it takes to get into any manga / anime / book / TV series. The first chapter. If the first chapter doesn't capture your attention, then...? Why read the second one at all? At least for me, if the first chapter doesn't hook me I drop it. Sometimes the first chapter does catch me, but then the story peters out and loses me. I read Bleach and Naruto as well when they were still being published. They both lost me. Bleach lost me with the second half of the story, the so called Full Bring Arc. And everything after that. I stubborned my way to the end, finishing Bleach was a chore to cross off my list. The last chapter was a relief, no more Bleach! Yay! Naruto's last arc was boring. I was bored. I stubborned my way to the end and borderline hated the final chapter. ...that's the ending...??? Urrrrrggggggghhhhhh. There are many reasons I won't bother with it's sequel, Boruto. One Piece has never lost me. I did read the first 20 or so chapters of JoJo...I don't remember why I stopped. Read the first chapter of Attack on Titan. That's it. (Cowboy Bebop is the Best Anime ever made. Fight me on it. Original Trigun is classic too.) Welcome to the cruise, nakama!
