      Hi xaine, very good explanation as always. I'm curious where you get possible range for XClass, is it from wiki or from experiment? Because few of those value is not right. For example deflector shield, I have one with 38% shield strength. I have a link in reddit as proof for this one, but I feel it is rude to paste link here without your consent.
      Another one is life support but I don't have any footage for it, maybe later.

    Perfect, as always!
    Thought to mention I linked this to Bethesda's general forum to help some of my ex-dwellers who remain frustrated about how rng seeds function. The problem in FO76 is the seed "sticks" (becomes stuck) on specific variations of drops, whether it be the primary or within the lower tiers. For example, a nocturnal (primary) drop may stick within the session, meaning the drops will likely be nocturnal, or the seed may continue over multiple sessions. I experienced three months of a stuck seed, and the only method I know to un-stick it is to load the stuck toon in the world and then load a different toon in the same world and play it long enough to get a different drop, which un-sticks the seed.

    Great guide, Xaine, and very easy to follow. I map the rolls for each tech type in an Excel spreadsheet when I do this. It's not for everyone, but it helps me keep track of the optimal upgrade path.

    I knew most of this, except that I thought that there were different seeds for ship, suit and multitool so you couldn't do ship and suit ones in the same run. That saves a bit of time.

    I would like to see a list of the s-class upgrade module's maximums on all tech and an example of a final setup with reasonable outcomes on each equipment to see the final stats gained and possible layouts in Tech and inventory slots. Also, I am working on my fighter ATM and I am nervous about which upgrade to install first. I guess once I know which ones have good stats then Have a layout plan to fit all the tech I want to use. Need 6 got 1 out of 15 augggg.

    Today (March 26 2024) it's still working, managed to max out all 3 upgrades for my Infra-Knife while spending little time and nanites. What made it easier for me is the fact that I made a script weeks ago that allows me to make a backup (as many as I want) any time I press F5, it really helps to recover from any mistakes I make in this game.

    I think I have noticed that whatever algorithm is used for the actual rolling "seems" to take into account what modules of a type you already have installed. I have found that as I start out to "roll" stats, it usually takes a long time to get to a really good one. After I have one or two really good ones, it "seems" easier that future rolls will also be good. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

    Hey Xaine, I have a couple of ships with the X class hyperdrives installed, but most have none of the 100% warp efficiency so they make it thirsty on warping, I think I'll eventually replace them with S class hyperdrives, that way I get the best warp efficiency, I almost never warp the maximum distances and the few times I have it has been in my freighter lol

    So if I understood it correctly. You test all the S class mods to see what number the best mod for each part type is hiding, then you reload and do C class in-between those. So for example it'd be;
    (C) - (C) - (C) - (S hyperdrive) - (C) - (C) - (S cannons) - (C) - (C) - (S engines) ?

    How does the game get from the "save seed" to the actual stats on the module? Is there a look up table full of values that the save seed is a reference number for or is there a formula that takes the "save seed" as an input value?

      Unfortunately that part is beyond me. The seeds I show at the start are an example to better explain it, I didn't pull them from my save file or something

    Very nice, & good easy-to-understand explanation! :) Shame the stats for X-class are such a scatter-plot tho, effectively requiring save-scumming to even come close to max stats :( IMO there should
    be at least some ingame mechanic to adjust that 'curve' a bit.. but that's purely IMO
    BTW, I don't remember if you've covered it before, but do max upgrades (ie 3 each) in both tech slots /and/ suit/ship slots still provide an extra bonus despite them not flashing red, or is this simply a visual oversight by DEVs & the max bonus is from only 3 upgrades no matter where they're placed?
    I'm still awaiting that language/dictionary module placement tutorial/explanation you promised a couple of years ago though.. No rush ;)

      Thanks man! and aye they do, 3 in each stacks.
      Also, not certain what you mean by language/dictionary module placement guide. If you mean an explanation on adjacency bonuses, I believe i did a pretty solid section on that in last year Stasis Device Mega Guide. if you mean the actual translator tech, then afaik only one of them is used, so they don't stacks and so you should just use the best one, but it's been a while since I tested that.
      If neither, my apologies, i need more info

      I'm fairly certain the translators do stack (thus giving 6 words translated if every dictionary is installed, excluding Artemis), but my query was primarily about their adjacency bonuses if any. As I said, no rush :)

    Wait man, so do those upgrades stack with each other or not. Cause like for example I have an S class jetpack upgrade but the "stamina" of my Jetpack didn't much change. I don't really get all that tbh

      i like to do them in blocks of 8 as thats a full row in the ship and the multitool it just keeps things simple for me, i wondered the same thing as u that what do i do if those 8 are all trash?? if i reload the auto it will still be the same 8 trash right? yes well the easiest way iv found to do it is open 8 of the C class upgrades and break them down then make a new auto save so essentially they become 9-16 now and it seems to work, dunno if there is a more efficient way or not tho sorry, hope this helps

      What John describes is what I was attempting to explain in the video, so any that aren't good you just use a c class in their place to forward the seed, make another save then continue checking with a class etc

    How do I keep doing it to get the right one? Lets say I have found that the best one I get is the 4th. I then do 3 thrash and press the 4th one and I get the one I want. How do I then continue that so I can get the 4th one again? Do I have to make it up to 6 each time? Meaning 2 more trash ones after the one I wanted, then 3 before? Appreciate the help.

      you can only get that 4th one once, the seed keeps moving, so after that 4th, you start again looking for the next really good number

    So it is not clear whether you work with one item (like all Hyperdrive upgrades) at a time or choose to open upgrades for different equipment items like; #2 for exosuit weapon, #3 for ship weapon, #6 for ship hyperdrive, and so on to cover all equipment upgrades at once. Any way you look at it, you need a lot of empty slots to work with and Ya do Multi-tool first because once opened the upgrade will only go in a Multi-Tool slot. Then once you have the good ones sorted out, reload and use C-class to fill in the order of where the bad stats were.

      It is most efficient to do all technology for all inventories at once. The seed will roll regardless of technology type, so you can test each tech type for each roll through reloading your save to work out which technology type is best to use at which point from the reload and which to skip with a cheap c class.
      You don't need a crazy amount of space as you can just delete modules to roll the seed further with more, deleting an item does not reset any part of the seed

    Feeling a bit obtuse; someone explain a couple things like I'm 5.
    If the best stat mod shows in the 5th spot, it's best no matter which type of S you open? If I test with hyperdrive and find a 250 in the 5th spot, could I then open a boltcaster in the 5th spot and it would be best stats? Or is it specific to type and a boltcaster best stat might be 4th or 18th or something? (I think that's what the efficiency bit meant but I'm not sure.)
    Last time I did this, my best stat was the 27th one I opened. Does a manual save/reload reroll the place your best stat might be in? Or restarting the game? I see in the vid that auto save does not.

      Unfortunately, no. It only applies to the specific type of module. That's why Xaine mentions it in the video at 6:22, for maximum efficiency you want to do as many different types of modules at the same time.

      My experience is some times the stats of various techs (aprox) match, some time do not. When they do it is bad for me because if I install one I lose the other. Eg, if in place X I have a good module for the hyperturbo and also a good module for the pulse, I should choose only one. The other is lost and you must keep mapping forward.

    In your Hyperdrive example, I agree with you that a 247 LY upgrade is "good enough" since holding out for a 250 LY upgrade will only be a bit over 1% better. But it does beg the question, where is the 250 LY upgrade? This comes up again with the Pulse Engine upgrades. The good upgrades don't show up among the first six in your example. I would guess that as you go beyond six items, the seed continues to be advanced, but how far does it go? If there are ten possible Pulse Engine upgrades (just picking a random number) I assume that the best one will show up as the ninth or tenth upgrade. What will the 11th seed bring up for Pulse Engine upgrades? What would your next moves be to get better Pulse Engine upgrades?
    A second question, I don't have dozens of S-class upgrades to burn trying to discover which position will get me the best one for a particular save, so I wonder if using C-class upgrades would yield the same information. In your example, if the fifth upgrade had been of a C-class Hyperdrive upgrade would it have been the best of the C-class Hyperdrive upgrades? Obviously, testing with C-class upgrades is much, much cheaper than using S-class upgrades.

      They pointed out that the perfect pull on 5th mod does not cross between types. Go to 7:40 they went back to the save file starting point, switched from the Hyperdrives to Pulse engines, pulled the same 1-6 order & None of them were good. So it's kinda like playing Bingo. Each module type would be a letter from a-z & each draw sequence would be set for the letter in numerical order from the original save file seed. as you reveal a mod it pushes all the mods in that deck down a sequence.
      Ex: the HD would be A and Pulse engine would be Z. A5 was good but NONE of Z was good, so that's where he said you'll have to reload the file a few times, draw the whole batch and if none are good go back to the save and try a different mod or buy more mods, use some burner mods to push the stack # along or modify the save file seed. so if the first 6 Z suck then flip 6 burner C tier mods and see what Z 7-13 turn up as.
      You're basically looking into the possible future and hitting cards in certain orders to get the best of each. So if you want to upgrade 1 mod be prepared to have burner mods that are c class. You might go Burner 1-3, f4, a5, d6, burner 7-12, z13 where A-Z refer to the module TYPE instead of the class since you'd be hunting all X or S tier.
      Hope this helped clear things up. You will need a load of C tier burners to really go fishing through the S&X tiers. I would suggest finding a planet that has mould balls on them as you can farm them for 35k nanites an hour if you're efficient and quick.
      They appear on the scanner as 3 star opbjects, When you aim at them they are called RunawayMould and when harvested with a cannon they quickly break and turn into 3-9k stacks of Runaway Mould which you refine into nanites.
      I build a structure around them like a barn or cattle pen, (DON'T modify the terrain, it will kill the spawn) and setup 1 large refiner and 3 medium and however many small you want. Make 2-3 farms near each other and every time you leave render they respawn. So i use a fast exocraft to bounce between bases.

    I would like you to ask. How does module stacking work and why does my system get overloaded after 3-4 s-class movement modules while you clearly had 4 s-class modules and you were good to go? Also, nice content

      You can have up to 3 upgrades of any specific type (over all classes) within the same inventory. So for exosuit and ships that have both a main and a technology Inventory, you can have 6 total, 3 in each. The type refers to hyperdrive, pulse engine movement system etc
      If there are 4 or more, they'll all be disabled until all but 3 are dismantled

      You have to burn 6 c-class modules, then replace them with 6 more to advance the seed.

    Hey Xaine, I was wondering how many times did it take you on you third upgrade. I activate around 12 S class to see, Reloaf then do 12 C's then do my gold S class.....nothing reload then I do 24 C's then my S class.... I can't get my third one to pop. How many on third did you notice till a winner

      The stat is not tied to the module, it is tied to the ordinal in which it is installed.
      Assume this. You have 3 class S modules for the hyper.
      1 save
      2 install all 3
      3 suppose these stats 200 248 225
      4 Reload the game and you will have the 3 modules without installing but you already know that the one you install second will give you the best stat.
      5 Ok. You want to install that 248 from the second place only without spending other S modules.
      6 You must understand that stat 248 was not due to the module itself, it was due to the order in which it was installed. Any of the 3 modules will give you 248 if you install it after having installed any module (C, B, A, S of any technology) before it, which will be installed in the "second" place.
      7 Therefore, you must install something "cheap" in the first place. If you installed an S module you would be throwing it away because in that place 1, it will give you 200 ly which is the worst.
      8. That is why Xaine uses a cheap C module to "burn" that location 1 and get to the desired location 2.
      You can practice until you get the hang of it simply by doing your tests and reloading to be as home as you like.

      The others would be random as you aren't duping the one with the statistics, just a blank module that can call a new seed

    I note that in your vid you used only six hyperdrive mods and were fortunate enough to get a 247 on the 5th. Are the values static? I tried using 7 mods and received 215, 203, 201,213,229,208,231 reloaded then received the exact same sequence on each reload. What do I need to do besides reload to get a different spread of values? I have watched the video several times but see no discussion of this issue? No RNG on reloads alone?

      the static nature of them is what allows for the large scale rolling using C class mods.
      To see more options in your example, you should reload to erase having done those 7 (if you havent done other mods since), then use 7 c class modules of any standard tech kind in place of those original expensive ones to "use up" those seeds, after which you can save again, then use the s class ones again to see what numbers you will get. I say your 5th one is really good that time, then reload, use 4 c class to use up those first 4 seeds, then do the 5th as the s class to get that awesome stat, then use another 2 c class to fully use up that 7 and save and repeat

    I don't think RNG manipulation or s/R can really be considered exploits. They're as old as gaming itself and only puritans would frown on utilizing them, especially in what is ultimately a single-player game.

      Before I would have said no. I got lucky and got some good S class upgrades on one of my multitools an one of my positron ejectors and it is s noticeable difference. I've got over 45k on my positron ejector an almost 11k on my multitool.

      well it's not guaranteed to give you better than you have off the first however many, this just allows you to look ahead at what stats can be gained and pick the best you see

    Min/Maxing most X class tech is just not worth it
    70 x Scanner rerolls, nothing even close to a high S class upgrade
    A maximum X class ship shield for instance is MUCH MUUUCH more possible
