Pre-Algebra on Khan Academy: No way, this isn't your run of the mill arithmetic. This is Pre-algebra. You're about to play with the professionals. Think of pre-algebra as a runway. You're the airplane and algebra is your sunny vacation destination. Without the runway you're not going anywhere. Seriously, the foundation for all higher mathematics is laid with many of the concepts that we will introduce to you here: negative numbers, absolute value, factors, multiples, decimals, and fractions to name a few. So buckle up and move your seat into the upright position. We're about to take off!

When I was younger, I would say, "I'l never use this in my life". Here i am, 10 YEARS LATER(24), taking a teacher certification test and had to watch this video to recall how to do this.
Thank you Khan, you're the best

Nunya Business but they were memorable
*in the context of online video. Remember, FULL HD video (yes) was a thing in the mid 90s (if you were very rich and lived in Japan). DVD became popular in the USA in the late 90s, and that's 480i with a relatively HUGE bitrate to even most standard definition online video today.
That's the least common multiple of 5 and 12. The greatest common divisor is 1.
Back then i was not even born
Easy!
it's so interesting to see how your Sal's videos have improved over the years. I'm currently doing Khan Academy in Year 10, using it to relearn the fundamentals of maths rather than traverse this hodge podge curriculum we're given. I was doing the HCF area and I suddenly saw the quality change and I must say it's amazing how it's improved over the years
im grade 8 and im trying to learn this again, im so ashamed lol
I'm in college and I'm trying to remember this! lol, its ok. Everybody learns at their own pace.
This is the place where everybody can feel better about themselves. I'm 11th grade and I'm having to review a lot of pre-algebra.
It could be worse, in a recent college grad watching it to review for the GRE 😂

I knew all of the factors part but the part I was struggling with was finding the GCF. Thank you so much! It helped me clear out my concern for it! :)
I appreciate how much work you put into it
Thanks this helped me in a lot of tough situations in math
Thank you, I

i love this guys voice. it makes learning so much more pleasant. what ever your name is thank you so much. oh and your explanations are excellent. my son has shown so much improvement. thank you thank you thank you. oh, and thank you :)
Great to have found your videos. Watch your innovation in education session with Bill Gates the other day. In my thrid semester at Kaplan University, going to college at 52 is not easy. I was never taught this math in High School in the 70's in a small town. I plan on following your videos all the way through my math course. Thank you
nani?
thankyou
nice helping me with my math
Thanks for a very clear presentation. For the musically inclined, the attached video (Invasion of the Prime Numbers) can help students memorize the prime numbers up through 53, which can help with solving greatest common factor (GCF) problems. The chorus of the song consists of all the prime numbers up through 53.

@@maydang6301 no. They probably made it "GCM" as a easy to remember thing for "GCF"

how about finding gcd using euclidean algorithim?
Thanks sooo much
Thanks, at first I got mixed up and I was like Greatest Common Divisor? Because our teacher taught us Factor, not Divisor.
But thanks that helped me a lot.
I'm a Gen Z(2007) and learning this in grade 8. And this is somehow nostalgic. Guess I miss the 2000-2010 era.
thanks so much :)
U made it so simple
Thanks 😊
Aww nice 😇
Thank you
This video is god and educative.
thank you
Isn't it smarter to start with the smaller number? Since the GCD can never be larger than the smallest number.
Then you can just start at the highest divisor of the smallest number and work your way down.
“Gcf”
Thank u so much for this vid it helped me with my homework 😊😊😊😊

amazing
@kcj1993 euclid's algorithm. Basically, the GCD of two numbers does not change when the smaller of the two numbers is subtracted from the larger number. So you subtract the smaller from the larger successively (switching numbers if the other becomes smaller, etc.) until one of the numbers is 0. The other number is the GCD. You can look up examples of this anywhere.
Thank you, now i am not confused of GCF

was in 2006 the prime factorization method not invented yet?
My mom made me watch this video even though I know what a greatest common factor is, who owns this computer.
@kcj1993 what's even more awesome about it is that it's the earliest known algorithm, discovered by euclid somewhere around 300 B.C. :)
Looool I was doing this and I was just wondering why everything looked soooo dated. I now realize that it was made fourteen years ago.

2006, and that thumbnail is in high quality form.
