DJ Hollywood one of the pioneers. Underrated. Everyone admiring Bambaataa & Herc, but Hollywoody, Pete and some other cats did as much to bring Hip Hop to the masses, just the audience was different often times, especially during the early years 1975 - 1979...
I still regard this as the first, best and most innovative hip hop piece. I played it so many times back in the day and still have my 12 inch of it. 30 years on and I still bust it out and can remember every line. Submarine Crew!
Ohh . . . God Damn! So many memories, mainly with my African-American "Brothas" during our Navy days between 1979 and 1983; all the way from F-ing Tijuana, BC Mexico to Olongapo-Subic Bay, Philippines. The party usually started with this tune. When it ended? I have ZERO recollection! God Damn! What a party that was! "Uhh-Ahh-Uhh-Uhh-Ahh! ☻
If you weren't a 70's kid .......... You missed the party! So sorry, The Fever, The Garage, The Buttermilk Bottom, Club Collibron, Justine's.... Wow! I could go on and on.. Gen what... You kids got no idea.. Plato's Retreat, 51, The Diplomat..... You'll never know And that ain't good! Life lessons missed...................
This was the shit!! Underrated joint!! Real musicians on this track! Thats how it was done back in the day! None of that sample shit!! Bass player gankin on this guitar in the pocket!! over all funk ass rap!!!!
@ITucker29 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but FYI the band is playing a version of a previously recorded song- original hip-hop always used someone else's music - sampling devices just made it easier and less expensive than hiring a band.
Happy Bornday D.J. Hollywood!!!!
Found this at a record store free section haha. Vibing in 2021
