"As soon as she entered the studio, the atmosphere began to sparkle." They felt it. It is the intangibles that a band can sense, that makes them stand above the rest. Fami was the 5th Element. That is why LOVEBITES is now complete. 🤘

I had no clue who Fami was before the announcement but man, her playing on the new Lovebites album is all you need to know, she was a great choice.
She has the skills and she also brings a ton of stuff outside of that to the band, she can sing, help with writing etc, she is a very complete musician!! 🤘🐺🤘
In the full version of the documentary Midori says Fami is now "the technical one"!! 😄

This six persons you saw in the video were already the only six persons who made it to the second phase, after they got nearly a thousand candidate videos. Even the british guy, if you look at his insta he plays like every instrument in rock and he is pretty good at it. At his age, really incredible dude, i bet we will see him in some band in the future because he is really good.
The final was aya and fami, but yeah, with a bassist as good as fami it was hard for aya. She is pretty awesome too though.
On fami I can't think on anyone better. When miho left we were speculating about other bass players in this scene, but you could have never thought about her, fami seemed to be in a different place. If we had known, of course, this girl is so good, that even world class players like midori and miyako will have to keep training hard if they don't want to be surpassed xD

I think it's really great that LoveBites' new bassist is Fami.

I was so relieved to see that they chose a female, and an Asian too if I'm being honest. I hope you check out Fami's post on her channel after her appointment. She was so excited. So adorable.

I like Fami a lot, both her playing and her personality, so I'm quite happy with their decision, but hypothetically it would have been very interesting to have a male bassist in a predominantly female band. Even more than with an all-female band, it would have sent a message that gender isn't important in metal.
All-female bands still sometimes raise the question for me: why? I mean, there may be legitimate internal reasons to have an all-female band: no loudmouthed band mates with a sense of male entitlement, getting along better etc.; I accept that those are legit personal decisions. (On the other hand, turn it on its head, and it looks iffy today: "No, we don't want a girl in our band, we're male-only". Like, really, dude? But it is maybe true that women tend to self-segregate more than men, the genders being equal but different... it's not my place to judge that.)
However, I don't think that ALL all-female groups are all-female for those personal reasons. For some bands there certainly is a marketing, a "novelty" aspect to it that I am critical of, especially in Japan, especially with some of the poppier J-metal groups that are under the sway of labels and ARE marketed for the consumption of the male gaze. (Lonesome_Blue for example.) Lovebites, I think, is not one of those bands, and apparently they were prepared to break the mold (while the original casting call was probably all-gender for legal reasons, they wouldn't have invited two male candidates into the second round if they were not open to the idea). I actually do believe their decision for Fami was neutral/objective/independent of marketing considerations, but I would not have been unhappy to see a band where the "normal" order of things in metal bands that include female members at all (one or two women, the rest men) is reversed.

That's a fantastic argument, and also a hard one to call I Must admit the prospect of a male member would have been an intriguing one for sure. Its also a hard debate to have without someone throwing the sexist card around i was really surprised to see the band open to the idea of a male bassist if im being honest and greatly enhances my respect that they really considered going that route seriously. All in all though i am personally glad Fami got the gig as i really think it was a fantastic choice

@@NeonReaperReacts Thanks. I also think it was a purely personal decision, as Asami stated, they all had the feeling "This is the one" from her vibe.

They wanted the best and they got the best! Aya is great, but by playing with picks she's a bit limited in the LOVEBITES world. I still love Aya though.

I'd have been fine with a male bassist... Only concern would have been his stage outfit 😂
