  • This is a quick video about the new Sharpie S-Gel pens. This is the metal barrel variant with new Black ( amzn.to/3EiozQq ), Blue, and Red colors. They are a bit heavier and nicer feeling than the standard S-Gel ( amzn.to/2XLnTTS ), which has gotten to be a very popular pen in the last few years. It’s compatible with Energel refills, so that’s a really big plus.

      Can't beat EnerGel ink. Absolutely fantastic! For anyone interested, the S-Gel barrel also takes the following refills: Uni SXR Jetstream, Uni Signo UMR, and Zebra Sarasa JF, JLV, and MJF. Awesome options to choose from.

      Thats one of the big reasons why it became my edc now
      I picked up the metal barrel last week
      energel 1.0mm fits just as good as a .7 in it

      Hi. I just bought a matte black metal barrel S-Gel pen yesterday, but for some reason I can't get my EnerGel LR7 refills to work with the pen... Everything screws in nicely, but the refill/tip gets jammed when I press the clicker... I wonder if Sharpie has changed the front bit for 2023? :(

    Got black and gunmetal Gray and I think the black is my all time favorite pen!!!!

    I'm going to call the black version the "Darth Vader" executive pen! :)

    There are a total of five metal body colors: Matte Black, Midnight Blue, Crimson Red, Gunmetal (Gray), and Champagne (Gold). When I saw the newest colors, I knew I had to have them! Have you noticed that the Sharpie wording on the Matte Black feels textured? I'm assuming it's because of the matte material it's laying on. All American agencies/companies/businesses need to throw out their BIC and/or Paper Mate plastic-bodied ballpoint pens and stock the S-Gel pens, metal and plastic alike, as their main "ordinary" office pen. Maybe I'm speaking too fast; I know there are many who like writing with oil-based ballpoints. I personally find that writing with a pen you actually enjoy using can make a difference.

      Yeah, Blue was a bit hard to find (and perhaps underwhelming?) so I got the red and black. The black looks quite nice.
      And yes! The "Sharpie" logo on the black one is slightly rubbery. I guess it had to be printed on their differently?

      Agreed, but I think they should jump straight to Energel though :P

      @@felixbelanger2659 I agree about EnerGel ink. It just doesn't get any better! However, I REALLY don't like Energel's plastic barrels, never have. But I can have the best of both, the S-Gel metal-bodied barrel that I actually like and Energel ink refills, both readily available at my neighborhood Staples store. Even if I couldn't find EnerGel refills, the S-Gel ink isn't bad at all; it's right up there with Pilot G2 ink, in my opinion.

      @@Ali-in8xi Yep you're right, I have both metal options from Pentel (the Alloy and the twist pen) and they're not as nice as some other options, but they're pretty good.

    • @Ali-in8xi
      @Ali-in8xi Před 2 lety +1

      I have both the Alloy and the Philography as well and I'm not crazy about either. I also have the Libretto, Sterling Slim, and Hexreform; the Hex is my favorite of all the Pentel metal-bodied pens although a bit thin. I also don't care for their multi pens either. The EnerGel ink is Pentel's best item. If it weren't for the ink, I don't think I'd be a Pentel fan.

    Just tried both the green and purple S-Gel ink. Both are great rich shades! I also discovered some time ago that the colored rings on the plastic version of the pen are removeable and slide off the section easily. This isn't so with the metal version; the rings are stationary. What would be awesome is if I could swap out the colored rings and put them on the metal pens, specifically the Gunmetal and all-Black. I could then match up (yes, I'm a match pen with ink sort of gal) my metal barrels with both the green/purple rings, or any of the colored rings for that matter, and the same colored ink. If anyone dares to try, please come back and post to say that you were successful in removing the center ring from the metal version. I'd love to know!

    • @Ali-in8xi
      @Ali-in8xi Před 2 lety +2

      No need to attempt to try; I was able to successfully remove/twist the ring, with the help of a tongue and grove plier, from my Gunmetal pen and place the purple ring from the plastic version onto the metal pen. So happy this is possible! Two things that should be noted: (1) I was able to easily remove the ring from one of my all-Black pens with a simple twisting off, without the help of a plier, and (2) I was able to place the ring from the metal onto the plastic pen with some slight effort. My point... everything is interchangeable with or without some effort. Some might think "Why go through all this? Just buy the barrel as is having whichever colored ink you desire." To that I'll say my goal was to have the pen of my personal choice (the metal version) and be able to know at a glance by way of the colored ring which pen contains which colored ink. Didn't want to have to retract the button and start writing only to discover it isn't the ink color I was aiming for. I've successfully accomplished this, so I'm glad for it. Hope anyone who ventures to this page finds this information useful. Happy writing folks!

      There's no point to switching the colour indicator rings around because they're made of plastic & will break when you try to remove them

    What does it mean that the ink isn't permanent ?
    If it rains, the ink washes off?

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  Před 2 lety +1

      Won’t wash off entirely but it will run and could be removed in the case of fraud (on a check or document)
