In today's video we dyno the Tmax 530 so we can get a good power number with the upgrades and we take it to the streets of Mexico to race the Gilera runner 180 vs the Tmax 530. The Tmax has about 11.5 more hp but shes a big girl. Let us know if you like this type of video down below!

Only a carb doesn't change anything, and this runner has already been tuned allot.. just look at the exhaust

I had a 530 DX (2017) I had it fully loaded with Malossi overange kit, malossi belt and malossi clutch disc’s. It was an absolute beast! You have to turn the Traction control off for it to stop bogging. Literally you can’t ride that bike with the traction control on it bogs like no tomorrow, when it’s off my god the back wheel don’t stop spinning. Best bike I’ve owned so far. I’ve also had gillys malossi 172s fully loaded too in my younger days. Lol. Great vid! 😃

Imagine that with the latest engine upgrades, you can easily push 45+ hp on the Gilera Runner 180 engine, and soon there will be billet casings that will accept up to 300cc.
I’ve been watching it’s really cool stuff coming out
45+ hp is far from easy, consider that those engines run on a microscope reed valve and everything was designed like a big 50cc Piaggio engine. Cylinders have small ports, the reed valve is from a 50cc engine. This engine was designed to be reliable (people have done 60-80k km on that), torquey and smooth; far from a savage 2 stroke monster.
Anyway with money, time and knowledge everything is possible, new crankcase have born and now you can really push hard on it. 45 hp is not utopia anymore.

Reminds me of the days when I had my custom USA SR 50 modified into my custom SR 172!! Always wanted a runner but couldn't import one so I did the next best thing.

In the 90’ i rent a lot of scooters on holiday in Greece. Also this Runner. It had so much power! Under the seat the bag for the beach! Superb! And at time the greece people didn’t know what a helmet was! 😂
The GILERA RUNNER will always be the best scooter in history in all its engines, I have the 49cc runner and the 125cc one.
Its powerful 2-stroke engine makes it much faster than today's 4-stroke motorcycles, although they are larger displacement as you can see ...

I had a 2003 Gilera Runner VXR 200 for 17 years with 90.000km. I had a Malossi clutch, carb and variator. If it wasn't for some guy who ran a stop sign and wrecked the bike 2 years ago I'd still have it. But I admit that the 2 stroke 180 was amazing.

I was going to upgrade my xmax to a tmax this year but now seeing this I might pull my old gilera out and do a conversion will save like 6k 🤣
You may still spend a bit but both are different

Don't waste your money on a Gilera. If you want comfort, buy a t-max. If you want performance, don't buy a scooter.

I didn't expect these to be that close. A Gilera built like this in my country would surprise a lot of TMAX owners for sure.
Our tmax has some work. I’m pretty light too :)
I would expect that too, but I don’t think that the gilera is fully tuned yet.
Make that gilera into 183cc with the malossi kit change rollers and clutch and then you will see how the UK rides these bikes
We boys in London mock it I had a 250 engine, stator change malossi cdi gear up kit v4 head upgraded brake lines I did three years on that engine took me everywhere had to rebuild her back to a 200 but she's runs like a beast same set up.
What would you say is the best af ratio on a gy6? I recently put a wideband to it and try to keep it around 12.5 at idle cruise and wot.

I live in Miami and i have a tmax with the same set up that you have ; the malossi over range kit, malossi velt and termignoni exhaust. Just ordered the dynojet too. Were you guys able to remapped the ECU ? I would love to do that to mine. Cool shop guys keep it up👍🏻

Love the tmax and the runner we got tons of theses where I'm from and mostly all of them are fully built.
For the tmax we usually hook it up with the malossi 560 kit the malossi cams and overage kit when having those done it's a different animal according to how their done I would say you could take on a 600cc bike

Do you need to machine the low end of a minarelli 50 cc when your swaping the stock 80 mm conrod to a 85 mm conrod (zuma 2003)

Yes easily. I didn’t build it for max speed I built it to be able to use on long rides!

@@Scooterswapshop yes i subscribed and looked it up 😁 i couldnt get an overview of the setup too easily though. I still dont know any more than that it's a 125 and you got around 29 on it with a 21.8mm belt.
I always loved the musclecar vibe from the tmax. So got curious what it takes to beat it on a runner.

Big Bore Kit and I bought all high-performance stuff and replaced all
the OEM parts that it came with I don't think you can replace the front shocks on scooter so I didn't replace the front
shock on mine I just left that OEM what it came with with the rear shock I changed it. And I made my bike a nitrous I bought a. Little small nitrous setup for little can set up for it and it's a 4-stroke is not a two stroke and I bought a hundred mph gauge cluster for it I wish I could race you guys but for one I don't think you

We need to get some heavier rollers in it but what’s so cool about this bike is quarter throttle you can get to 75mph. Super torquey
As a kid, my uncle let me ride all of his bikes, except the "fast ones" because my parents didn't let me full blown access, only the scooters... 👀 They had no idea how crazy that bike was 😂 I ate sport bikes for breakfast with it.
lol you didnt. my ninja has 130hp and does 0-100 in 3sec and 0-200 in 8.9sec. even if ur runner would have 70hp you wouldn ever come close to a 600cc sportbike.
Now the Twin Zuma vs the Runner maybe? Im always confused to how fast the twin actually is. One video thats up of you racing a 170 Grom kinda made me question it, but I wanna believe its fast as hell 😂. Do a shop knock out series and see which one comes out on top. Fr, the Tmax is a unicorn and the Gilera is the unicorns rare pokemon card 😂😂
The twin vs the grom was when the bike had a massive air leak and if you watch the drone video you can see how fast the twin gains ground the twin bogged big time then took off. We can probably do that race tho. We may do a drag day when the rain stops.

The Runner 180 is maybe the coolest scooter ever made in italy, but is also very dangerous, because the fuel tank is located inside the front end and this makes the rear end too light causing cornering instability, in addition to the danger of fuel tank damage in case of frontal crash. Despite this i'd buy it anyway because is a very amusing bike.

The main weight is at the back because the engine is there. I own one 180 2 stroke and I highly recommend it to you if you are lucky to find one

I think you bought quite a lot to get the 180 that fast. Because it is impossible that a tmax with vario is overtaken by a 180. But a fast thing, would like to see it against a full malossi tmax
What’s funny is id say 50% of the people agree with you and the other 50% of the people commenting agree the opposite :). Which means it’s a very fair race.
The difference is the 2t and weight, you can make the tmax faster but you Will have to play with the injection engine or put a turbo on it

In the Netherlands if you drive with dmp covers you're not driving a gilera
The originals were very poor condition. We use to strip them and re paint also find oem decals

the gilera runner is a good scooter but its too big, so oftenly people put its engine in the piaggio zip but its not really good either since it has low rpm and high low end torque, the best choice is to get a piaggio zip sp 50cc from italy or a aprilia sr (newer models) and put in the mighty 2fast 100cc cylinder or polini evo 94cc.
zip isn't in the states and Gilera isn't big unless your 5 ft 6 inches tall haha

Gilera runner 180cc 2stroke normaly has 19-20 horse power. This one with almost 30hp is modified so not a fair race in my opinion.
Hows it not fair this isnt stock to stock nor did we advertise it we raced 2 of ourbikes... lol the gilerra barely won

2 stroke and 4 stroke. There’s also 1000cc motors that only make 100hp, and some that make 300
