  • Weight matters when you're lifting heavy stuff with your front-end loader. Because of pure physics, if you want to lift heavy stuff on one end of your tractor, you need to counter-balance with heavy weight on the other end. So this week I try out a ballast box with clay-sand in it on my Branson 2515h compact tractor. Check-it-out and see what you think as I put it to the test with this quick little review.

    Great video!! That's nice ballast box sand works pretty good in them I've heard. The 2515 Branson is a fine tractor I traded a 1526 Mahindra for a Branson 2515 in 2020 loved the tractor but with finish mower mowin my yard with my granddaughters in the bucket weighin 225 pounds total with loaded tires it would break traction across field in second gear. So in 2021 I traded it for new Mahindra 1626 now no problem. Branson will lift more if you get enough ballast but not way I use one. With loaded tires on Mahindra can pick up 1500 lbs without 3 point ballast. Branson is a sweet tractor miss having the 12 speed and the automatic pto button I loved that. You have a beautiful homestead. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy

    I have the same box I filled it with bricks, was ok. Removed them and filled with A gravel and stone dust,was much heavier. But I too will need more weight.

      I've had it filled with clay, with a solid concrete block on top, for a couple yrs now, and that seems to work fine. The slots underneath for pallet folks have been nice too, when I've needed to move the box while I had a different 3pnt implement on my tractor.
      Thanks for your comment and for watching. Have a fantastic day.

    So far in the 7 hours I have put on my tractor I haven't had any issues with tipping. I plan to fill the tires with washer fluid in the next month or so, and I usually have an implement on the back. Not sure if I will ever feel the need to get a ballast box, but if I do, I will probably go with one of these Titan boxes.

      That's great. I have loaded tires, but even then when I over fill the bucket with that wet clay and then drive across rough, un-level areas that she gets tipsy. If I go easy, I can control it. But with box blade or ballast box I don't even have to think about it. Gald you're enjoying your new tractor. Before you know it you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. :)

    I have a set of Pat's quick connects and they are the best. They were suggested by my dealer and worth every cent. With that said they are not expensive and you can order them on Amazon

      Thanks for sharing. Yes, lots of good comments out there about Pat's quick connects. I looked at them but didn't feel like they would be as convenient; I'd still have to get off tractor and connect top pin. I may be wrong about that, but chose to go with a 3 point quick connect. Will have a video out on that soon. I unfortunately had made the purchase before receiving your comment. Thanks again for your comments/suggestion. Much appreciated. And thanks for watching.

    An alternative:
    A general utility "carry all" and 2 55 gallon plastic barrels. Each barrel will weigh appx 440 lbs when full of water.
    You can use the cage for carrying many different things. When you need weight, roll the empty barrels in and fill with water.
    You can make a lot of uses of a carry all. Not just a big block of weight.

      Sounds like a great idea. Definitely multipurpose. Thanks for sharing and for watching.

    I just keep my box blade on the back and ratchet strap some cinder block to it. Also had my tires filled. I can lift a 2000lb log with the grapple. The loader struggles, but it'll do it.

    I used wooden shims to hold the door tight to the wall. No sand leaking out.

    How has the tractor/tires been on turf? With Branson being a heavier tractor- wondering if this would be an issue. Currently deciding between Branson or Kioti. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  Před 2 lety

      Tires have been great; no issues going across my lawn, as long as it isn'tmuddy of course. I went with the R4 style tire for that very reason--less harsh on my lawn and driveway. The R1 (agricultural) tires are more narrow with deeper groove pattern; great for farming fields, but a little more destructive on lawns.
      As far as choosing between Branson or Kioti, it may help to know that depending on the model, most Kiotis are actually manufactured by Branson. May have some different engine components, such as fuel injection, but if you plan to work on your own tractor as much as possible, the less fancy gadgets, the better. If you haven't already watched the 1st video in this play list, it should help. czcams.com/play/PL8T-iSUAEa2QWRRPtDuLHEtsVFH-vzFXS.html
      Good luck with your research and whatever final choice you make. I imagine both tractors are good, so just figure which is best for you. The Branson was right for me and so far, I'm very pleased with my decision.
      Thanks for your question and for watching.

    I used sand poured into construction grade disposal bags....no matter what you use ...ballast improves machine performance and is cheap insurance

      Wow! That is super frustrating and very strange. From what you described of holding the fuel injector away slightly, I also would have guessed O2 sensor or something to do with air flow.
      Did the throttle body come all new? Meaning did it include a new TPS (throttle position sensor) or did they use the old one? It may be a long shot, but for under $25 it may be worth a try. Sounds like you've tried everything else.
      As you saw in my videos, mine would start, but as soon as you touched the gas it would die. TPS was issue. I would also try bugging the Massimo US distributor HQ in TX. Ask for customer service, ask for manager, and tell your story nicely (but firmly) to anyone that will listen. People are far more helpful when they don't feel attacked or threatened and can tell that you're just a good person who has a legit need for help. Wish I could offer more, but that's about all I can think of at the moment.
      Hope you're able to turn this around and get back on the trails soon. Thanks for watching and reaching out. Keep me posted on how everything turns out.

    It's amazing how companies over rate their products. I have a Kubota mx5400, lift is rated at about 2340. I had to build a ballast of 1300lbs plus loaded rear tires to be able to lift max weight. Actual weights of 31 at 70 lbs for 2170 the rear would come completely off the ground and the bucket never moved off the ground.

      The Branson is pretty good, but it definitely needs ballast weight too. Check out the video my buddy Paul did with his tractor (like mine) testing if Branson published numbers are real. "Projects with Paul" ( czcams.com/video/Xi0z5wOMARc/video.html ).

    Saw another video where the person filled the same box with steel. 1500 pounds. He did beef up the 3 point mounts.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks. Yes, that is a great solution. At the time I got this, steel was at an all-time high price, so finding scap metal was not even reasonable. If I had it laying around, I would have used it. Once the clay dried and shunk down a couple inches, I threw a concrete block on top. Haven't actually ever needed more weight than that.
      Thanks for letting me know though. Really appreciate your sharing this.

    They make a three-point suitcase hanger and you buy weights to hang on it tractor time with Tim has it on one of his videos he gains I believe about a thousand pounds on the back

      Thanks. That sounds pretty cool. Will keep in mind. This ballast box though has been working perfectly, so it's all I need for now.
      Thanks for sharing though, because it may be exactly what others are looking for. And thanks for watching. Have a great day.

    If you can get ahold of some heavy plate steel it will add a lot more wait to your box.

    Fill it up with rocks or concrete. Gravel is much denser and heavier than that clay

      Sounds good. Thanks. Was using what I had, but next time get a load of larger stone I'll replace that clay. Thanks again. And thanks for watching.

    fill the box with led shot that will give you loads of rear weight.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  Před 2 lety

      YEE-HA!! That would do it, wouldn't it. 😀
      It's been working pretty well with clay for now, but next time I'm mixing cement, I'll probably make a block or two to sit on top.
      Thanks for your comments and for watching.

      At $65 for 25 pounds of shot, you'll have nearly the same value in the ballast box as the rest of the tractor!
