My husband has a back like yours Mathias. It didn't bother him when he was younger, but as he has aged it has become a problem. He has seen a physiotherapist and has exercises to do which help. One of them is as simple as grabbing onto the architraving over the top of the door frame with both hands and then move your body so it's vertical with your arms stretched up. It's worth it to start now while you are young to look after your back and do stretches and exercises as a daily practice so hopefully it won't impact you as much when you are older. The main issue he got from this postural problem was compression fractures in his spine.

The scratch is no big deal! It looks just like a little rain drop on the lens, that's all. You can even still see through it. 😉😊 If it really bothers you, maybe produce a few more videos each month and you will have the money for a new camera. See, we all win! You'd get a new camera and we'd get more videos! 😉 Don't worry about how finely crafted these videos are - or how long. Just post, post, post. We'd watch whatever you film. The world is so crazy/worrisome😔, and "Hollywood" is so talentless🤨, we are starving for some distraction - and yours is as wholesome as you can get😇. Heck, I'd watch you mowing the lawn if it would help you fund this little piece of paradise. 😊 Blessing to all, especially to the most adorable toddler on CZcams, Ivar! 😄

Yeah, with the writer's strike, there is nothing to stream. These videos are so much better, though! Ivar is growing into such a fun toddler who is so lucky to be growing up with the animals, no video games consuming his every waking moment, just genuine, healthy, outdoors, natural and timeless old-fashioned lifestyle. This is one of my favorite YT channels! The cinematography is outstanding! Drone shots, the story line unfolds so naturally.

My middle son's mother-in-law asked me how in the world I managed with three boys. I told her all they need was a pile of dirt, a spoon for digging and a toy truck. This could keep them happy for hours. Add a little water, and you have to drag them away from playing at dinner time. So, it sure made me smile to see this little boy with his truck, dirt and puddle of water. Happy boy!
It is interesting that you are also having trouble with carrot seeds. I have had trouble with having them sprout for 3 or 4 years now. I did not even try this year. But it is not just me; everyone is complaining that "they" have done something to the seeds. I live on the other side of the world in SE Alaska, so it is not the country. Although this year Spring was late, last year I planted in early May, and still no carrots. This is frightening to me. Next year I will try nothing but organic seeds and hope for the best.
Try some Yoga stretching for your spine. Maybe it will help. Otherwise, whenever you think about it, pull your shoulders back. Just a couple of thoughts I had.

Your videos are unforgettable. I have not watch your videos here in the USA for all spring and summer. I was busy trying to grow vegetables specially onions. I spent more money buying the onion plants than what I got in onion worth. A total disappointment. Anyway my garden is done producing now and I woke up as many mornings to let our 13 chickens out of their house. I remember that video of you waking up in a dark winter morning putting a kettle of water to boil to make your tea or coffee. How you stirred your brew and the peaceful feeling I got. I also make my coffee in a french press every morning. I feel a strong connection with your family. Our children are all grown up now. But I still work as much as I did back then. Nothing like fresh air in the morning to wake you up. But in the winter months it is a bit scary not knowing how cool the air would be outside. Anyway keep sharing your life is all inspiring to me and so many people. Thank you do much. Much BLESSINGS. You don't know how lucky you are away from the cities.

Mattias, try to decompress your spine by hanging . Grab hold of a beam, or tree branch, and just hang for 5 minutes or so. Chin ups, and dumb bell rowing can help to strengthen your mid to upper back. I am sure that you get plenty of exercise on the Homestead- but adding a little bit of resistance training will benefit you greatly* You all are doing a fine job- keep up the good work!

You are such hard workers. The spot on the camera is not a problem. It's great that you can spend time with your family and it's always nice to have help with projects. As far as flying chickens go, some people clip their chickens wings. You might try looking for physical therapy exercises for your back. It could be just your posture and you may need to work the muscles for a straight back.

I just recently studied musculoskeletal therapies. This condition is called thoracic hyperkyphosis and is fairly common, especially as people get older. It can start at younger ages just due to genetic predisposition and seeing a therapist for tips on postural awareness when sitting, standing and walking, can help. It's also important to start performing some exercises which could assist with reversing this, before you get older and the condition becomes entrenched with musculature tightness which is harder to address. If you search the condition, you will find helpful info about it. Some helpful exercises include:
    1. Thoracic spine extension: Lie face down on a mat with a foam roller or rolled towel positioned along the upper back. Place hands behind head and gently lift chest off the roller, keeping the neck long and the shoulders relaxed. Hold the position for a few seconds, then lower back down. Repeat for several repetitions.
    2. Seated row: Sit at a cable machine or with resistance bands attached to a sturdy anchor point. Reach forward to grasp the handle or band with both hands, then pull back towards the chest, squeezing the shoulder blades together. Release slowly and repeat for several repetitions.
    3. Wall angels: Stand with the back against a wall and the feet about six inches away from the wall. Raise both arms up to shoulder level with the elbows bent to 90 degrees, then slide the arms up the wall as far as possible while keeping the elbows and wrists in contact with the wall. Lower the arms back down to shoulder level and repeat for several repetitions.
    4. Bird dog: Start on the hands and knees with wrists directly under shoulders and knees directly under hips. Reach one arm out in front at the same time as extending the opposite leg behind, keeping the back flat and the hips level. Return to the starting position and repeat on the other side. Continue alternating for several repetitions.
    5. Cat-cow stretch: Start on the hands and knees with wrists directly under shoulders and knees directly under hips. Inhale while arching the back and lifting the head and tailbone towards the ceiling, then exhale while rounding the spine and tucking the chin towards the chest. Repeat for several repetitions.

For your back, Mathias, there is an easy exercice that strenghtens the long back muscles. You face the wall, put your feet a few inches far from the wall (to free the hips. Then you rest your chest on the wall, your hand joined behind your neck,. You lift your elbows as high as possible and then you pull your elbows as far back as possible, even using your head to push more. Hold for 3-5 seconds and return to the wall. You do this 10 times. You repeat the exercice 2 more times during the day. Il will strengthen all you back. I even had a vertebra that was very far out (I could not lie on it, painful) and it is now nearly completely back in place!!! I have a slight scoliosis and is it slowly coming back into place also!!! it strengthens also the lower back and tilt it more to the front to recreate the natural "arch" that I had lost. You will walk better too!!!
for the upper back, you can use a medium fat elastic that you hold with your finger and stretch it while descending from the neck to the end of the thorax. can do it also without moving by placing your hands at the center of your chest... it will strengthen the muscles around the shoulder blades (scapulas) and bring them together strengthening the upper back www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Strong-Elastic-Rubber-Bands-87mm-x-6mm-Big-Thick-Chunky-Fat-Size-64/293524621032

Tova seems to be a lot more comfortable and creative with the camera now, I really enjoyed the part in her garden! - About your hunched back (at 28:28) : When I was younger, I used to have a similar posture like that as well. My back is straight now. Weight-lifting basically did it for me. I got into that a few years ago and I had a personal trainer who gave me exercices to get rid of that arching. They focused on building the muscles around the "trunk" area of the body, meaning the lower and mid areas of the back, but also all of the abdominal muscles. But it's also about learning how to position the body to lift things, like using legs instead of the back to pick up heavy things from the ground. Learning how to dead-lift and to squat properly really did make a difference for my overall posture. So maybe that's something you could look into and see if you enjoy doing? I'm not saying you don't already have strong back muscles, because you definitely seem to lift heavy stuff all day every day basically. But, I think it's more about focusing on exercices that straighten and strengthen your overall back muscles and that adjust your posture. Anyway, glad to see you guys are thriving! Cheers

As a physio, I can recommend foam rolling your back after a long day of work. Rather a Pilates roll than a Blackroll as it’s not as hard. Focus on squatting when lifting heavy. Try the Y-exercise: Pushing your back against the wall in a slightly squatted position at first and try to hold your hands making a human Y with your whole body. It will be hard at first but keep exercising it.
But of course it’s better to consult a physio directly, so they can tell you how and what to do 💪😊

Thoracic spine foam rolling can help counteract mid thoracic kyphosis and provide relief for strained and tight muscles. This exercise is done by lying flat on the floor with a foam roller underneath the middle back (thoracic spine) and gently rolling up and down the roller. Hope this is helpful!

My partner worked with a scaffolder who was strong and slim, didn't eat during the day. He had a back that curved like yours when he bent over. He didn't seem to have any problems with this. You could try yoga and calisthenics to stretch after working bending over. This would strengthen the muscles around the spine. You are lucky to be so active and live a healthy lifestyle in the beautiful countryside.

This is a fabulous physical therapy channel in the United States you totally can reverse the curve ( hunchback) of the upper back, it’ll take daily stretches ( yoga specific to your problem) and then your Physical therapy exercises like the ones on CZcams Upright Health. You are a young handsome strong healthy young man I never noticed until you pointed it out in this video, also be mindful when you’re sitting editing that you are sitting in a good postural position maybe get a back brace so that when you’re wearing it it’ll remind you to sit straight and get up every half an hour and do some stretches or so. You’ve got this!!! Love your channel and your beautiful family! Blessings 🍃

When I was a child in Germany schools really encouraged straight backs and corresponding physical therapy type exercises. Like sitting with a straight rod behind your back and under your arms, if that makes sense. Like you have to roll your shoulders slightly backwards to be able to fit a straight stick through both armpits and behind your back. It encourages you to 1.) Learn how to sit straight instead of always hunching forward lazily, and 2.) Lengthens and trains those muscles. They don't do that anymore today and I'm your age, not that old lol. But with computers and phones etc, I think people need it more than ever.

To fix a kyphosis (rounded back), stretch the pecs and strengthen the rhomboids. The front is too tight and/or stronger then the back. The body needs balance between the front and back. So yes strengthening the back is great but don't forget to stretch the chest, pecs, and biceps.
Take care guys, much love from canada.

That's what I was thinking. It's not necessarily a lack of strength because he's so active. That's maybe also why there's no pain. But if there is a lot of strength being used/applied in one direction, the muscles shorten significantly. Maybe wood chopping with an ax or other wood work might be contributing to this.

We are sailors and were just chatting to the owner of an aluminium boat and asked if it didn't get hot... he told us it would not be feasible if the outside (deck) was not painted and the inside insulated (the lower portion is in the water and therefore stays cooler). I would imagine this must hold for a coop, too?! Maybe a coat of white paint would make all the difference to your aluminium, in the interest of the chickens!

I am a massage therapist and I think stretching is the best. In Tai chi they teach us that long muscles =, long life. So before you are in sauna and cool river bath is a nice time to reach and do pull ups and in general stretch all your body. Plus you both work so hard...don't worry ! Lovely family. Heartfelt !

Hope you get this comment as I was 3 days late in viewing it. Comment #1 is Mathias I know how upset the lens on your camera made you feel, but as I viewed your video it is not that noticeable. Definitely not worth replacing for the dollars it would cost for replacement. #2 Tova- your garden looks the best this year than it did in the past (great improvement). #3 Mathias- as long as you feel great & all of your body parts work; I wouldn't worry about how the curvature of your back looks. Don't look back @ the videos you make (problem solved). We have a book here in the U.S entitled "Don't sweat the small stuff". Love you guy's & all the time in what you do!! Have a beautiful day!! Tova, the garden looks so nice and you're super cute in your garden outfit/hat. Mathias, look into yoga for back muscles and spine to straighten. There's quite a bit out there. It's also good generally for longevity, brain function, because you're moving the spinal fluid, which means your brain and lower spine are communicating. Not sure if I'm explaining this right, but anyway. Beautiful vlog as always.

Thank you for another lovely video! Wonderful to get a glimpse into your summer activities. Mathias, next time you're in Finland you could see a Kalevalainen jäsenkorjaaja for your back. They're good at detecting if there is something that needs to be worked on. You are, however, strong and able to do things and if you don't have pains I wouldn't be super concerned about it. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Hi Matias and Tuva! Nice to see your summer time. As busy as I am in the middle of the summer!
Looks like your animals are getting used to moving. Just as you said, that sheep learned to go through the net and eill ptopably do it gain. Do you have good electricity in the net? I've noticed that its difficult to get the net hitting hard. My cows went hiking a fiew kilometers two days ago. Luckily the whole village knows by now where to call when they see white cows 😂
    😂😂
Those long paddocs may work specially if there's shade up at the top. You may also consider locating their water up there so they spend more time over. Bale grazing (is that how you spell it) is a goor idea to gain biomass on the top.
Hälsningar från Ikaalinen! Ock vällkomna här om ni visiterar Finland. Det sulle vara fint at diskutera om planned grazing 😉☺️ bland annat 😅

I had neighbor in NH that made portable chicken coop with wood. Half had roof to protect from rain and half with chicken wire. He had solar around it for electric wire protection as structure was in field and he moved it forward every few days. It was really amazing. He made long water trough from cutting 4 inch pvc pipe in half long way. It was about 3 ft long. Had hanging feeding buckets as well. He had on trailer frame and just picked up on end and moved it. The wheels were small so structure was low to ground.

As always, lovely video, lovely family. I love the new outdoor Table! I want one! :-) So nice to see your hard work paying off. The builds, the livestock. Such amazing progress through the years. Mathias, You are young and strong! It might be a mild case of Kyphosis. And stretching exercises can help. And hanging upside down for 5 minutes a day! To stretch and strengthen the spine. . My family has it too, and I thought it was a British thing! . Hihi.( smiling ) So keep stretching, stand straight, and you will strengthen the muscles around each vertebrae. You are already healthy and strong, so just be mindful and take care of your spine. Love from, The Old British Lady :-)

Wow what progress. So many things you are achieving every week. The chicken tractors or cackellac-1312 we used where amazing so you will love your chicken mobile pasture/tractor. As a side note......Everyone is built different so please don't worry about back curvature, unless you think there is something wrong and for health reasons you want to get a spine xray/Cat Scan/ or MRI done and speak to a specialist. You both look perfect. Heather from Canada

In the book "Breath" by James Nestor, Katharina Schroth's work to correct curvature of the spine in scoliosis patients was introduced. It comes down to breathwork, and I have been experimenting with it. I do not have scoliosis, but it works on the curvature of the spine whether it is from poor posture or scoliosis. Enjoyed this video as always. Thank you.

Love this video 💜 But it's sad about your camera lens breaking... does your steer have bloat? 💜 Ivar and his cousin or friend is adorable... coffee grounds beeswax candle will keep mosquitoes away 🙏🏽 beautiful life... to help hunched back , instead of curving back when stooping over try sticking you butt out with a dip in back, like instead of a hill make a valley with butt sticking out. This is what my Physical Therapist told me to do and it worked wonderful.

Rolling back onto a yoga ball feels good on the back and helps with that issue. Exercises to balance muscles in core are good too. You want to do them for chest, shoulders, back, and belly so no muscles pull too hard on the back muscles to overcompensate.

The chicken poop will be a a welcome addition as a regeneration tool. I so enjoy your videos about your daily life because you know what is truly important, working with nature, good food, and beautiful family and friend relationships. I have scoliosis of the spine between the shoulders and it has been an issue with the bending over. What I have found that has been useful is some yoga moves that concentrate on the upper back and a constant awareness of how I am standing, focusing on standing as straight as possible.
