    Growing up on a cattle ranch in Montana. My work horse was a black Tennessee walker. By the name of "Traveler." That horse was so freaking smart. He taught me how to drive cattle. The only issue I had was that he'd change his gate every ten strides. I would get so soar. But I didn't care. He was the only horse for me. It's been over 30 years and I still miss him.

    Really like the way Jerry and Hensen understand the bloodlines of the stallions. Confirmation....ability.....and brain!
    Years ago some QH breeders were breeding for conformation and speed; forgetting good bone and feet. Impressed by what your horses represent!

  • @lazygardens
    @lazygardens Před 2 lety +26

    Buying older stallions can work well in a low-stress breeding program.
    The public fancy is usually for the stallion that just won the ___ whatever, but the smart money goes for the overall lineage that produced the hotshot horse.

The breeding certificates made me stay to the ending and made me rerun a lot them back to familiar names from my days on the Farm, Ranch down in southern AZ. Pima County. Nice selection of studs, you guys like the blue valentines, Leo lines. I did see some 3 bar influences from further back. Keeping studs I'd a job, how big of a job depends on the stud. If there gentile it's no big deal. But aggressive ones can be dangerous. I've seen Booth and all in-between. It's been said some nice studs make nicer gilding. My dad been talking of breeding the one filly he has. Just to be messing with a baby again. Lol.. my dad is 83 now. But he knows and appreciate good horses.

    Hi from Australia, I knew my Uncles QH Roc the Doc, Sorrel (now mine) had good breeding. Your video got me more interested in delving more into it. Some majors imported from USA into Australia and the breeding program began. His Great Grand Parents- Docs Poco Bar and Lady Devlin /Docs Oak, Freckles Fancy. / Roc O Lena, Shiloh Grey Bid/ Bills Shine, Skipa Lou. From 1960’s and 1970’s. Some previous even match with Jerry’s
    Rocky’s still going but due to injury doesn’t perform any more at camp drafts, just here enjoying life training calves up, slow and steady.

He made a really nice ranch horse and could probably pull a tractor around if you dallied up to it. I dont even remember his registered name. We just called him Poco....Give me something out of Peppy San Badger any day of the week. Quick and catty.

    Wife, Jennifer.....I love watching all your videos. Danielle, I think your doing such a great job, and I too would have never believed you did not ride your entire life. You seem to be such a beautiful person. I like Hensen a lot too. But who I really appreciated hearing from was Jerry. He sure knows his business. And something he said that I totally agree with is....they might not be beautiful, just a bay or a sorrel (meaning not much color) some people like a lot of color roans, or paints, or buckskins....but one true fact is....you can't ride pretty!! LOL 🤣 Such a true statement. I personally would love to own something out of Monster. Thanks again Danielle, love everything your putting out. Your all truly Blessed to have one another. This is a wonderful video! I have already enjoyed several hours watching it and living vicariously through the video and narrative. I have some questions relating to Mr. Arizona since he wears the KeSa brand. Did Jerry pick him up at the KeSa dispersal sale that Sam Shoultz had back in 2018 and if so did Jerry also get any of the fillies from the KeSa breeding program? It seems like Ken & Sam were breeding out of the same genetic pool that Jerry favors. There is no way to give you enough “thumbs up” for all the enjoyment that I get from your videos!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Great video very informative. That nice gentleman sure has a memory. And your husband is a very harder. Anyway question if the mares are turned out with stallions how does one know the sire? Thank you in advance

      Each stallion and his band of mares gets their own pasture. The guys know the mares so when the babies come they know what stallion it was with.

    It's interesting hearing about different breeds of horse. Lol the only one breed I can identify is a Clydesdale. My neighbors are Mennonite and use their horses to pull their carriage and plow.
