I searched on CZcams and realised that there aren’t any guides to help advise pickers on how best to acquire locks to practice picking. Would you make a video about that? I think it’d be really helpful.
I want to know if there's a lock you CAN'T pick? Would you be able to walk up to anyone's front door and pick their lock? Why don't locksmiths ever pick the lock when someone has lost their keys?
@@lauralishes1 sitting in a chair all nice and comfortable, being able to maneuver the lock around to where it is in the best position possible, and picking a lock on a door that you have to hunch over or kneel down to reach, out in the rain or snow, with not much light to see anything, with the door blocking most of the room you would like to have your body and a hand in, are two totally different things. It's like kicking a football once and thinking you are good enough to play professionally. If you want to make ANY lock harder to pick, install it. Also most if not almost all locksmiths get paid by the job, not by the hour. So they want to get you in and get to the next job. Some locksmiths will pick a lock, but most these days would rather just drill and then sell you another. That makes them the most money. Edit: that's not saying that locknoob can't pick most front door locks. He is a great picker. It's just easier when you can control everything about where, how, and when you pick that lock.
@@lauralishes1Locksmiths do pick locks sometimes. But it's usually better for them to drill out the lock and sell you a more secure lock replacement. Its more money for them and better for you. Also, if a locksmith turns up and picks or bypasses you lock in a couple of minutes, its not very reassuring for you. Also, there are some emergency entry people out there who don't pick locks at all. They just get you in by destroying the lock and then fit a temporary replacement that's typically not very secure. So be wary of that.

Thank you to Prolox and the Lock Noob gentleman for showing how added features in a lock can protect your home.
Thanks 😊
Big love to Prolox for this - I would definitely like to see more companies sending you more locks to review!
I agree.
Thumbs up 👍🏻 Prolux Company. If I were in Europe I would definitely consider this lock brand. Many great security features. On a physical attack this lock will defeat the crook for sure. Thanks for sharing this, let's see who else steps up.
Thanks 😊
That was ballsy of them. But I think you were incredibly fair and as a locksmith I very much appreciate the honesty about prep time that usually goes unspoken.
Thanks 🙏
Interesting lock, and have to say props to Prolox for sending it to you! Certainly a brave move on their part! Great video!
Thanks 🙏
Prolox good on you for sending one of your locks, they are good locks
Yeah!
Thanks Ash. Excellent picking! 🙂👍 It's a nicely-designed lock, which has some sensible thought behind its design and manufacture. Kudos to Prolock for that. 🙂 A cynic can only assume that Prolock sent you a carefully-chosen lock with excellent bitting. The next step, therefore, is to go out and buy another lock, anonymously, to see how it compares with that one. It would be very interesting, if you were to do that, in the interests of fairness.
It might be hard for me to do that now they know me, but if I was sent one…
Thank you, Prolox!
👍
This lock is one I would buy.
Interesting cylinder !
Great picking!!!
Thanks 🙏
Cool of Prolox for sending out this lock for review 👍 great picking and gutting!!
Well done!
🐈⬛🐾🐈🐾🇬🇧🍻
Thanks 🙏
hahaha sooo cool that they wanted you to pick and gut !!! hi fives to them for that !! great vid as usual ! loved it . long time fan , cheers for all you've shown me ! from Canada much love eh
eh? must be Ontario, we don't say that here on the east coast, eh. ;)
but yes, great video! Mr. Noob makes it look so easy, and the knowledge he shares with us viewers is priceless!
I really appreciate your way of honest lockpicking and content of your vids. Truly makes my (our) hobby a lot of fun, learning a lot. Cheers mate!
Thanks 🙏
A fair and honest review as always Ash. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your week.
Thanks Gazz!
Thanks for the admission, of practice before shooting.
Great video. I like how you explained how the bitting makes it harder to pick the pins in the back. This also is the first video i remember, in which you used more than one pick on a lock. Something that isn't talked about an aweful lot either. I think it is potentially a bit of a trap for beginners to try to use only one pick and one pick only. It would be lovely to see a LockNoob video where You talk about the process of finding the right pick(s) for a lock.
Greaat content and well picked Ash, anti snap, anti bump & security pins all for £5.50, you cannot grumble at that!
This was probqbly their intention but i'm heading over to Prolox right now to grab one of theae, looks a fun pick for the ££'s
Oh no doubts of a sponsor’s intentions 😁😁
Definitely a really cool thing that Prolox sent this to you. And it's a good lock, too. Nicely done with the picking and explanations.
Thanks 🙏
My first thought is to wonder if ALL their locks have that extreme bitting and the spools and anti-bump pin (I really liked that, great design/idea), or if they chose that particular lock for you to showcase.
Thank you for letting us know you rehearse before picking live. Though I miss the candid errors Bill used to make, especially his funny gutting disasters.
Although you review a lot of complete sets, I noticed your chosen picks are from different brands (I believe you used multipick and Peterson in this video).
I love that front follower with the diagonal slot, better control of which pin is accessed than exposing all the pins at once or withdrawing the follower one pin at a time.
Yes, my kit is a mix of stuff I just like. It gets changed now and again
As a locksmith I've been using Prolox for about a year and pretty much all the keys have this extreme biting. Really good locks but nasty to get into non destructive.
Thanks for a good video. It says a lot about the quality of character at Prolox. Well done- both of you.
Thanks 🙏
Love your honesty regarding CZcams picking videos 😃👍
Thanks 😊
Very cool they sent that to you to pick and gut! Good on you Prolox! Seems like a good value for the money, and excellent demonstration as always Ash, good stuff! 👍👍
Thanks 😊
Good advertising for them tho I've just been on their website 😂 fair play to them 🤣
Yeah!
A lot better than your typical Kwikset. Seems like a heck of a deal for the money!
It’s pretty good 👍
a very nice and honest review Ash mate😎😊🇬🇧👍👊
Thanks Leon!
It's worked, just registered for an account.
Love your videos of these euro cylinders. Wish I could get a better selection of them in the US, since most of our non-padlocks are kind of crap here. Does anyone actually know of a good retailer in the US that sells these, or one outside of the US that ships at a reasonable cost? I hate paying $25 shipping for a lock that might cost about the same or even less.
Hi James, These are trade only locks so only locksmiths can get them (at least currently)
Idle hands is a term I'm sure will never apply to you Sir Lock Noob! ROFL 🤣 more companies should get on board with this concept!
I’m here when they want to send me stuff!
Nice review and a great lock for that price! 👍
Hate to admit that I smirked at the sticker on the lock body.
Thanks
That steel bar at the back of the lock looks like it's an anti bypass for when someone's left the key in the lock on the inside. So that's cool too.
Sorry it’s not 😁 it’s just to fill space in the lock when it’s longer so the key tip still pushed on the actuator. I see what you mean tho.
People who think learning to pick locks means your a criminal or dishonest in some way when the truth is it’s the challenge of learning to pick harder and harder locks besides I’ve never picked a lock that I don’t own or I have specific permission from the lock owner. I say that because I worked as maintenance at a self storage facility and had to cut several locks for the owner or for unit auctions.
I have a Wink hauus? On my front door. I think that's what it's called. Are they easy to pick? I really wanted to take up lockpicking as a hobby but I don't think I can do it.
Much harder than your standard lock to pick winkhaus. It would be harder than the lock in this video for sure.
AAAAHHHHHH I'm to new to do this. Please Bottle your experiance. Great Vid Thanks
Thanks 😊
So the way we mount our locks in europe makes them harder to pick already?
Not sure harder is right… it depends on how you learn and what you’re used to
Great video as normal and a good product for the price. Would be nice to see a response from Prolox.
Thanks 😊
@Lock Noob I like the fact that I now sometimes get a lock related advert when watching your channel. At least the algorithm is trying to help! Have you been approached by them and would you pick one on your site?
Hey Lock Noob, great video as always. Being lazy asking this rather than googling. However, I have never seen an explanation as to why you can't open a euro cylinder lock. if there is a key inserted in the other side. Also is this unique to this type of lock design?
Yeah, I have opened and looked at a few of these locks and the cam, but I also still don’t fully understand how the cylinder takes the cam and connects to it and what is stopping you from using a bypas tool on one side to rotate the cam if the other side has a key and can rotate (or just why the cam can’t free spin)
Would be interesting to see a good video on how this works, perhaps with a 3D model ;)
The short answer is - you can. you just need to pick up the cam once you pick the lock to actually open a door.
Where might I be able to find one of the little followers that you slid in right before removing the core?
Sparrows sell some
@@LockNoob Thanks, as usual you're the man Ashe! I'd love to interview you for my channel sometime if you're interested. I just started a new series called "C0V3RT" and it's basically an exploration of all things "Covert Entry" from Lockpicking to Physical Pen-testing and pretty much everything in between.
The purple planchette, what's its number, please? Hook number?
Is this ProLox marketing their neat lock directly to people who want to play with it? I envision a future when most security has become keyless/digital and the lock companies are left to cater to niche hobbyists :D
I’m here for that!
the whole locksport community is a distortion of how easy locks are to open we all practice on a lock watching somone fumble around for 20 mins is very boring lol looks like it has snap protection too the price seems very fair didnt expect anti bump feature nice
Same goes for the olympics.
@@OldBenOne no olympics is easy in real life lol
Do you think they cherry picked that key biting?
Certainly crossed my mind, but I’ll give them the benefit of doubt
@@LockNoob well, even if cherry picked, it didn't slow you down a bit. Great video, as always.
Look I’m early for once
lol
Appreciated 😀
How can they make money from that when the retail price is so low??
No idea!
what's that... 1 minute -30 plus or minus? By you? That is like 10 minutes to forever for the rest of us. Not too bad. Not a good candidate for bumping or raking, so someone will have to SPP. Not likely. Gutting shows a pretty decent lock for the price.
Seems ok doesn’t it! 😀
