Guys i want to start off and thank you for all the knowledge and education you have given me over the years as I grew up watching you guys on regular cable TV yous guys are all legends from Detroit power the power Nation
No marketing products this time - just work
I will like to come back to see the project 1973 Buick Century all finished.
First car I ever worked on and drove was a 73 Century. Had an opportunity to purchase a 455 car later in life, and missed out. So many memories in this video. Thanks for the memories, verycool bumper mods by the way!
My first car. I loved the tail lights. She road like a dream. Great car.
Your 73 Century Regal,is nice. It's a miracle. That u found this car in that good condition. I always like them. It's going to come out great. Keep it going!
Yeah. They claim they paid $1500 from a scrap yard. Major BS
@@SophiaAphrodite that is a score.
@@SophiaAphrodite Probably. But still freakin awesome
Bumpers came out awesome an i can already imagine the tailights nice build so far
yes, to reesign the old heavy bumper can give the car a cool, smooth look, but why we like old cars? its because their shapes and the chrome.
Make the bumper a bit slimmer and then chrome, that would be very cool, but it's also very expensive and does a lot more work than just cutting it all away and then welding it together at right angles.
I would have preferred early 70's grand prix handles.....
Dudes, I dig this project. Always wanted to see a land ya too decked out. Rock on! 👍
Powernation: Finishes door latch install.
Me:My eyes! The googles! Zay do nothzing!
How fun to customize a relatively cheap car! I may not agree with all the design choices but it looks like a blast to do such things.
It's the little subtle mods like this that add up to a nice build. Once completed, few would know that it wasn't stock but that it just looked great.
Everyone will know these mods aren't stock. Lol
@@thomasmartin5319 That's assuming that everyone knows what the original car looked like.
That bumper looks great!! Nice job
Loving the build
Not the door handles 🤦🏻♂️
Not the navy!!!
☹️ Taurus handles
They ruined that door.
They ruined the car. I liked it the way it looked these 2 stink
Can see it coming around gonna look so nice..
Yeah the stock door handles weren't great, but you replace them with awful chintzy ones off of an econobox? They look right off of a Plymouth Neon.
Yep.
The new ones are ugly, cheaply made ,and easy for thieves to break into.
@@T.Tuxedo yeah most the older car where really easy to get into like the GMs with the lock nob rounded on top and no window frame on to of the door .
@@montemaguire4596 Yes.
I remember that people used to unscrew those knobbed door lock buttons and install the smooth ones to supposedly make it harder for a thief to get in.
The older cars were also easy to open with a "slim-jim".
I also remember once upon a time when side window vents were also easily opened..
The Dodge Neon era door handles were REALLY easy to get into.
A very bad design..
@@T.Tuxedo I had a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad cad I locked my keys in it and was out hunting I used my 10 inch knife to pry the top of the door open and used the car anntenna to hit the unlock button in about 10 minutes.
Man, if you guys can polish this turd, I be a fan forever.
This is badass!!!! I'm definitely going to try this
Those door handles are a no from me. Looks like it came off a Ford Taurus
What's wrong with a Ford Taurus?! Greatest car ever made! But seriously I imagine that they'll look a lot better once it's painted.
@Shawn Davis The correct way to pluralize it is to just put a single apostrophe at the end like this: Taurus' ...😉
The original door handles matched the straight lines of the bumpers and lines of the car, wtf were they thinking?!
Those door handles were on a lot of GM car from the late 90's to early 2000s. They were put on the corvette C5 I think
@@derpmansderpyskin taurus was the first thing that popped in my head too. lol
I get it, I understand the ''custom'' approach, and its all valid, skillfull, quality work....but as a drag race, street race, boulevard bruiser kind of guy, I am very conflicted about the door handles and rear bumper mods......still a very cool build....but.....well lets just keep going.
I love the big steel bumpers.
Nice job ..nice car...n nice red impala too...
Good video and Thumbs Up.
It's my old ride!!!! after my "Kojak" series shooting in 1974 , I drove around the Manhattan tippelzone prostitutes in my Buick Century. My lollipop never goes limp.👴
عمل ممتاز و ذو احترافيه عاليه شكرا على اتقانكم لي عملكم
Tip for plug welding holes. Clamp a small piece of 1/4 brass behind the hole, then fill. The weld will not adhere to the brass and the molten steel will not flow out of the hole. EazyPezyTrapezy.
I think the bumper ets and stock bumper look better
Same here
Same here
Yep.
Good job.
big bumpers were great
Soon as you changed the bumpers I tuned out!!!
I looked at a '74 Lincoln Mark IV several years ago. In my research, I discovered that the mandated bumper changes from 1973 and after added an additional 70 (SEVENTY) POUNDS to the front of the car.
That doesnt surprise me one bit...I had a datsun 280z and its 5mph bumpers weighed over 50lb....and that was a eeny beeny car.
I loved this show but after realizing a few years later, that $10,000 project had Nearly $10,000 in Labor alone. It's one of the reason Velocity / Motor Trend went away from this type of show. Now the shows are more down to earth and show 2-3 repairs on a car. I love Tommy Boswell and hope he catches another show!
I love this project. My first car was a 1973 Buick Century Luxus in 1983. The bumper tuck and rear bumper modification is great. It is what the car really needed.
outstanding!!!
got to admit you guys are really creative and like the way these videos go. You do great easy to watch videos , fun to watch very professional
I never liked those rectangular lifting door handles that were on pretty much every GM car in the 70's. First, they did not flow with the sweeping body lines of the cars' side profiles. 2nd, they were hard to use for kids. I know first hand. It took a lot of effort to lift those hanles and pull those doors open . i like the idea of using a more modern handle to give it a shaved look. Unlike others' opinikns, I think once they are painted they'll look great! My only concern is how they'll hold up pulling open such a heavy door. Those things are notorious for breaking off, especially in the cold. But $50 for the pair ($25 per) and being able to ruin a door taking them with them with the sheet metal is a good deal.
Just created a Chrysler rear end from the same era! New Yorker, Newport Custom,,,,,,
Need more Rick Bacon!
AWESOME!
Great project car, looking forward to the rest. The door handles are a big no no from me. Also, is the narrator reading the script while taking a dump? Sure sounds like it.
I like the old bumpers...
Those door handles are going to look great when they are all painted to match!! Nice work and I have learned a lot from your show!! Thank you!! Question for Rick, what style of Oakley glasses are you wearing please? I would like to get a pair. :)
What was the final result with the 73 Buick budget car
Y'all do great work but why would you take out metal door handles and put in plastic ones?
Fifty bucks?! Y'all got jipped
2 doors worth too.. as they were ruined
My very fist car was a 73 century 4 door. She would move!
Rick Bacon has leather hands! Welding with bear hands! And I mean 🐻.
I used to weld bare handed all the time. The sparks usually missm
GET REAL BUDDY those big real metal chromed bumper are loved more than hated, I had a Honda Civic rear end me in my 84 Buick Regal....Buick had no damage and the civic bumper, grill hood and one fender were crumpled, all because of those bumpers
What about the '61 Impala project "Lead Sled"?
The thing is that time IS money.
where are the rest of the episodes for this build? it seems like everything in these car shows is all about chevy, ford and mopar, and on occasion pontiac.
Should be on powernationtv.com
Any link to this being finished...
Very good fab skills fella's.
A 70s ford flush mount door handle would have been much better choice , maybe even painted body color
Yes sir
god those handles look awful, i would've at least gone with a different style of GM handles
ALASKA STATE TROOPERS ARE ON YOURE ASS what do you do I NEED AN ANSEWER
Killer job on the bumper
Not going to lie, the door handles were a terrible mod, BUT, i would love to give my 82 El Camino a similiar bumper treatment, tuck them closer to the body so they don't stick out so much.
James Hetfield does great fab work!
I think the bumpers will turn out nice. What would have been really cool would be if you had used Tesla door handles, the ones that retract.
Not sure that Tesla was a thing in 2010.
why not use bumper off 72 century ?
I'd love to recess and shorten the front bumper of my 73 gran Torino, that 5mph BS looks hideous.
To the griping whiners here: "Budget" doesn't necessarily mean the absolute bottom dollar. There are plenty of channels that deal with barely getting a neglected vehicle running and then sold off, never to be seen again. Watch those and be happy. At least projects like this Buick offer up "ideas". If I like a mod, and it fits MY budget, then great. I don't need to be deprived of ideas and their results because of people with no resources moaning about things. Stay out of the hobby if you don't like it. Please and thank you.
Some people just don't understand that they won't get what they want in a video.
Its fine to criticize the door handles and etc. But don't expect them to do it your way. I personally like how they are trying something new. I mean , it's their fucking car?
And like you said, there are a alot of resources out there for rat-rod junkies to watch (Dylan Mccool, etc.)
Liked the original door handles a hell of a lot more than a swap that makes it look like a damn Kia.
Personally I’d have brought the front grill all the way down (the piece is inside the bumper) and chopped up the bumper into bumperettes under the lights. More like a boat tail Riviera look to the nose.
Some flush mount 88-98 Chevy truck handles would have looked better plus they're metal .
How about Red Sled?
I want to see that impala in the background!!!!!!!
Red Sled was a wicked cool project.
Those are Acura integra door handles for sure
can u imagine how much one of the custom shops wude charge for the same thing?
101 drag coronet made, ahra record set...should of got another wife?! 😉
Lol
Those bumpers do look great on trucks but not cars so I can't disagree with that
Red lexan makes good tail lenses... ~( 'w')/
Kojak's car?
it's like theyre trying to make a weird lookin ford duster?
This was turning out great until the door handles. What the hell were you thinking?
How, exactly, is this street-legal with a solid-mounted bumper? You might as well have welded a chunk of steel directly to the frame, you have defeated any impact absorption it might have had.
SO WHAT !!!
@@chasnelson5753 well, in the state *I* currently live in, it would prevent you from getting it licensed. That enough for you, bubi?
those plastic door handles will fail you, they came off a car that had lighter doors. there not meant for a door that weighs around 150lbs, the ironic thing is the dime a dozen handles you threw away will end up out living the plastic ones you grafted in. should have used metal handles from something else instead.
Enjoy your show. How large is your shop? Do "Other Shows" also use it? Thanks.
Wow those handles are 100% worse than stock
Door handles look like 00-05 buick lesabre.
Hemi baby
ROLL UP YOUR WINDOWS!!!
Looks like another episode of pimp my ride with them ford Taurus door handles are you 💩 me. I think it would look better with the factory or delete them instead.
The programs are too short. When they were on TV it was even worse, couldn't get comfortable, all ads and short attention span theatre.
All that work its no longer a "budget Buick". LOL
The stock bumpers were better...were required to prevent damage up to 5MPH.
You are watching the wrong show. They don't care about working better, they care about looking better.
@@markg7030 this is a budget build. NO ONE is doing these kinds of mods on a budget build. NO ONE. Most this work would be outsourced for about $10k and would not be wasted on this car in the real world
Those door handles do not fit that car. If you wanted a more flushed style Cuda door handles would have been better
WTF? Are those the door handles from an 90s Ford Taurus? Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahah! That poor Buick! R.I.P.
10 years from now they will be putting all the OEM door handles and bumpers back on to erase all the "contemporary '19" garbage that they just inflicted on that car.
Low buck project, do it on my pay and no garage, then we'll talk.
Thank you federal government regulations for helping make our cars look like crap since the 70s
L P , they don’t build them like they used to.. thank god, those things are very stylish, but a coffin with wheels.
And these idiots make it look even worse
Bumber is worse now
Why do that idiots take on an old car if they hate and change anything on it????
how to mess up a good old car
Kojak's car
The only difference being that Kojak's was a 4-door sedan.
What ever happened to this car
Of course they fucked up the bumpers. The bumpers look fine.
You guys spent an entire episode chopping up a beautiful car, instead of actually doing any actual low buck performance mods.
How are ya'll employed?
