  • In this video I do more modifications to my JDM Suzuki Carry Kei truck.
    Carb work, exhaust work, replaced all the cooling lines with silicon, bumper work.
    I also TIG welded and modified an aluminum radiator from a side by side to fit my Kei truck.
    At the end of the video we do some 4x4 off-roading with the Honda Acty attack and my Suzuki Carry 4WD.

    Nearly all the trucks going to the US didn’t pass the Japanese inspection for many years (tenken).I think it’s something to be well aware of. The cracked hoses, and dodgy lines are a sign that this truck wasn’t road legal in Japan for many years, maybe more than 10+ and likely was used as a beater/farm truck only. It’s nice seing the truck get loved

    Stick a 'led load resistor' on the blinkers or indicators lol (one per side) and it will stop that 'short fast' blinks (that flash rate wouldn't be legal here in Australia)... Looking good, I use to drive the little carry utes here when I was an apprentice, they were popular in the railway maintenance departments...

    These little trucks were super popular on Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido. The snowfall there is some of the highest in the world.
    PS: The "just punch it !" technique can work really well for tiny trucks, they're harder to break because of the very light weight and lower stress on driveline components 😆

    I've been looking at one of these mini trucks for a long time! I may be retiring to a rule area once again such as Central Oregon! So they've been something I've been highly interested in, if I may make a comment the one thing I would do, not only a locking rear diff! I would also think about the possibility of a 4-link or a triangulated 4 Link! The easy way to do it depending upon the loads you want to carry, is to remove one of the strongest lower leaves of the rear spring packs! The one with the most starch in it. Cuz I did notice the set of overloads we're not connected! Since it has the long rear shackles the little bit of lift as you mentioned in your previous videos oh, I think a softer rear pack would work very well! As far as a multi-link situation as I mentioned earlier there is such a variety of side-by-side shocks and small coilovers that could be easily adapted with your skills which are impressive mind you thank you for the series of these videos I am enjoying them immensely

My bumper lights were busted up when I got it, so I picked up some Chineseum trailer lights, never got the running light to work 🤷‍♂️ but I have turn signals at least. • @DecayWithUs
      @DecayWithUs Před 2 lety

      It's a 91 carry, it's hard to tell if it's carb or ignition. Cap and rotor look tip top 🤷‍♂️ I purchased a new fuel pump a while back but never installed it knowing it's not likely the issue (BTW the pump is the same as a Honda Vmagnum or whatever they were called, you can get them for $40 instead of 4x that) the problem is VERY sporadic and didn't happen for almost a year, tho I only drive it once a month if that.

    This is a shot in the dark but if the truck is fighting you in 4x4 even on looser terrain like gravel you might want to check both the front and rear gearing. When someone took out the locking differential they might have thrown in one with different gearing. I bought a truck once that the guy complained about same problem and it turned out he put a 4.10 front in but truck had 3.73 rear so I swapped front out with junkyard 3.73 axle.

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes definitely a possibility, I have been thinking the same thing, I’m in the process of trying to track down a matching set of diffs because I really think this could be a possibility. Hopefully I can find a rear locker soon 👍 Thanks for commenting.

    • @FJ80Coop
      @FJ80Coop Před 2 lety +1

      Jack truck up.placea mark on both driveshafts and one tire on front and rear. Spin drivetrain or a tire with opposing tire locked down since you haven't any locked diffs.. Divide the driveshaft rotation into the tire rotation for gear ratios... If the same then you have 2 open diffs and might want to either learn brake modulation or add lockers,limited slips, or weld up the side/spider gears for a Lincoln locker for the go anywhere and show up brother mod....😁

    I see you have rear lift shackles, and a lack of articulation. What I did on my 1996 Carry was swap the rear leaf springs with a set from the rear of a Suzuki Samurai. Got them used off Craigslist and replaced all the bushings. Then took the leaf packs apart and swapped the overload leafs from the Carry to the Samurai springs. Now I have 1.5” inches of lift over stock on the stock shackles. Got some longer shocks and it’s an easy upgrade.

    I wonder how the Acty compares to the Carry offroad. I know the Honda is AWD, meanwhile the Carry is 4WD. Main reason I lost interest in the Honda was for that reason alone, but it seemed to do fine

    Hey Mike - had the same hyperflashing turn signal issues as you seem to be having with your suzuki on my 95' daihatsu. Installed some resistors to return to normal flashing speeds (voltage was too low for the system to 'recognize' the new LED bulbs), but I think you can also swap out the flasher unit itself for a more robust solution. Love the kei truck (and panz) content!

      @@Mikefestiva do you think for a stock mini truck that a Honda Acty Attack is better than your Suzuki Carry?

    I really like the idea of replacing the mechanical fan with electric, everything I've been reading says you must greatly increase the alternator output to handle the additional load of the electric fan(s). I will eventually be doing a conversion on my Silverado 1500, if I get lucky and find a Suburban at a Pick N Pull with the factory electric fan set up including the higher output alternator and all related parts it will make it like bolt on. Have you decided how you are going to turn the electric fans on, if it will be manual or by a thermal switch? PS I like this series on the kei trucks.
