- Welcome to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we will show you how to reset your throttle body's engine idle speed to normal. There are numerous steps where you can go wrong so try to do your best and if it doesn't work the first time try again. It took us more than a handful of times until it finally worked. This procedure should work for most of Nissan's electronic throttle body engines. Thank you for watching and Supporting the Channel!

Amazing! Worked first time on 2006 manual Qashqai. Didn’t hear the throttle body noise but kept going with the instructions and the engine light blinked still as you described so I kept going :) had the high idle issue after cleaning the throttle body and now idles at 600 rather than 1400. Noice.
Wow thank you so much this worked perfect 👍🏼 Nissan Sentra 2016 I cleaned the throttle body. You got a new subscriber here!

My god, who designed that procedure? Its probably the guy who designed old Nintendo cheat codes.
Haha! Yeah, they didn't make this process easy that's for sure. Thanks for watching! 🙂

Hi
I have a 2009 Nissan cube brand, new throttle, body brand new pedal Sensor in airbox if you unplugged with car running it car shuts off so I believe sensor is good trying to relearn but waiting for the actuator to make the noise it don’t that’s where I’m stuck at if I just continue with the procedure you start off with no acceleration above an idol. It’s slowly creeps up RPMs. And if I hold my foot on the break and give a throttle all the idiot lights come on need help.!!
@@TrickShiftGarage That is a lot to remember

Glad that it worked out well for you. Thanks for watching! 🙂
I’m working on a 2006 infinity g37, and I can’t belief this worked on it…. The instructions I’ve been reading are now where near what this video says!!! Grrr damn nissan
Yeaahhh, the instructions to resetting this are crazy, most Nissans around this time used this method for the backyard mechanic. Now, there is another "touch of a button" way with the "CONSULT III" scanner tool, but I'm not paying $2-4k dollars for that! 😭😂
Excellent video! I have watched at least 10 re learn vids and not only did the relearn process work the first time first time, cleat precise directions without useless information

Great video. I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra 3.3 VG33e. I had the battery out for 3 hours to replace my power steering pump. When I reinstalled the battery I noticed immediately after it warmed up that I was having a very rough idle. Scan showed P0300. Could this be the cause?

Does it work on navara np300
I recently replaced my maf sensor and o2 sensor should i do this to see if it fixes the issues im having? Seems like all the issues im having match what is described when the computers idle is off cuz of something llike the throttle body being unplugged
Yes, you can try this procedure, it shouldn't hurt anything. I'd check for vacuum leaks or holes in your intake system as well. That could be letting in unmetered air which would affect your idle speed as well.
Worked for me 06' nissan quest. Needed to be done. Was idling at 900rpms now 650rpm smooth.
Was throttle pedal working?
@@TRICITYTRASHOUTS yes just wasnt idling as stable as I knew it should. After digging into my used vehicle more and more. I am finding that it is a mash together car. Its runs and drives good for the price I paid. I cant expect nothing more than good engine transmission basic brakes and functioning correct a/c & heat.
Great video. Question my cluster is not working. The display where it says brake and ignition is not lighting up? Do you know anything about fixing ot?
Hello! What vehicle do you have?
@@TrickShiftGarage 2012 nissan altima 3.5 sr
I'd check the fuses on the interior (below the steering wheel by the hood latch release) and see if any are blown first. If those are good, the light bulbs inside the IP cluster went out. Not sure if you can get inside it or not but this might be the way to go. If you can't replace the bulbs then you'll be looking at buying a new IP cluster.
@@TrickShiftGarage thank you for your replies. I really appreciate your time.
You're welcome and thanks for watching! 👍
I’ve attempted a couple of times, i did exactly in the video, start the car once check engine stays solid, im still getting the p2101 code. Should the code go away instantly? Or does it mean the system didn’t re-learn?
P2101 is for “Throttle Actuator “A” Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance.” So basically, your throttlebody is bad and needs to be replaced before trying to telearn the idle speed. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! 👍
Help I have nissan Micra 2005 is not adling
So since you start doing the 2 sec and 10 sec on and off are you holding down the gas pedal or???
Nope, leave your foot off the gas pedal during those steps. Thanks for watching! 👍
My 2018 nissan qashqai lurches forward once in awhile would it be this or coil pack. I have no warnings on my dash at all
My guess would be a sticky throttle body plate. It might need to get cleaned up or replaced. Hope this helps! 👍
I replaced the battery on my 2017 Nissan Titan and it feels like it's missing/vibrating. Do I do this same procedure on my truck? One person said it was because I put an AGM battery on the truck but that is what the dealer and parts stores said I needed. I installed the new battery. PCV valves are new. Air filters are new. Plugs replaced a few months ago at 100,000 miles. Oil was change 2 weeks ago.
It wouldn't hurt to try it, Titan. Is the truck bringing any trouble codes/check engine light? How were the ignition coils when you replaced the plugs? That might be worth looking at if they are fouled up it could cause a miss.
@@TrickShiftGarage No codes, no CEL and the coils looked good. Just odd it started after the battery swap.
Yeah it is. I'd try to do the idle relearn procedure and see if that sets it straight. Thanks for watching and good luck! 👍
I just bought a 09 Murano and replaced the Accelerator pedal sensor and got no results. (I was told this was the issue) It doesn't rev up. Is this the limp mode low tranny fluid? I didn't check it. I did hear a loud whining when 1st started, I thought it was the pw steering pump. Thanks much for any help!
Hello, this sounds to me like a transmission or throttle body issue. Go ahead and check your transmission fluid level and top it off as necessary, it may also be time to change the fluid if it looks really dark.
If that doesn't get any results, take off your intake tube leading to the throttle body and have someone rev the engine while you watch and see if the throttle plate moves at all. If it's not moving, then I would replace the throttle body assembly. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍
In the case of the 2018 Nissan Maxima, the method in the video has no effect, why?
Ok after the first set of procedure the 2 sec 10 sec steps twice when you press the pedal for the idle learning does the car have to be on as in running or just turn it on to where the car electric systems are on that’s the only part that has me stumped I’m at work tryn do this on my break
No, in that step that car is not running, just the ignition is turned on. Thanks for watching! 👍
I had the same question, I was wondering the same thing, and now you answered my question by going through the comments. Thank you.
Do I have to do this if I replace my throttle body on my 2017 Altima?Or is there another re program I have to follow for changing throttle body?
Not sure if it still works on newer Nissans but you could try it out. I don't think it would hurt anything. If it doesn't work, a mechanic shop should be able to reset it using an OBD scanner tool. Thanks for watching! 👍
Do you have to turn your engine off and then start it within three seconds or go ahead and just start it from the ignition on position?
You just start it from the ignition on position. Thanks for watching! 👍
@trickshiftgarage what does it mean when my throttle body doesn’t make the noise to confirm that the relearn process has been done
It could mean that it's not working as it should and might need to be replaced. I would try to go forward with resetting the idle and see if it works anyway. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍
Question, i changed my spark plugs and made sure everything was connected and good but it has a rough idle and feels like it almost loses power but the brakes are hard, Would you recommend me reset the idle?
Hello! Is the check engine light coming on? How many miles does your vehicle have?
Assuming you have the correct spark plugs installed, I suspect you might have an ignition coil going bad? (happens quite often on the 2.5 liter engine)
@@TrickShiftGarage it was on but we disconnected the battery hoping for it to reset and I have 140k miles. Its a 3.5
Ok, if it's still running rough go ahead and try the idle reset procedure. It shouldn't hurt anything and worth a shot. If the check engine light does pop on again, take it to your local auto parts store and they can scan it for free and tell you what's going on.
@@TrickShiftGarage2:56
Brake booster vacuum line is broken or loosen.
Does the car have to be on like running or just on like flipping tha switch
The car isn't running, just on like flipping the switch. Thanks for watching! 👍
Would this work on a 2010 infiniti qx56? My suv is going into limp mode after about 30 to 60 seconds. This happened after a really dead battery and had to jump it which took a rather long time to get started. Thank you
Hello! It should work for your QX56 once you get a new battery installed. This requires a voltage of 12.9 V in order for the idle relearn process to take hold and learn it. Thanks for watching! 😊
What if my car has a manual transmision, will it work? Park on 1st gear or neutral?
It should work for manuals, I would try this with it in neutral. Thanks for watching! 👍
Hello, will this work with a Nissan Titan? Thank you

@@TrickShiftGarageEngine light is not blinking while pedal are fully press. Any idea how it will work? I follow all your guide.
Hmmm, it took about 10 seconds for it to start blinking for me when I was doing it and it took me multiple times to get it. Make sure you press the pedal 5 times quickly because it has to be within 5 seconds, that was a part I messed up when I was doing it. If it still doesn't work you might need to take it to a Nissan dealership and have them reset the idle speed. Hope this helps!

Sir in my i20 2011 petrol, the rpm needle immediately sets to below 0 mark as soon as the key is ON.
Even if I adjust the needle to 0 mark, 1 mark, 3, 4, 5 etc etc..., as soon as the key is ON, the rpm needle immediately drops below 0 mark.
Please help how to let the needle start at 0 and not drop below 0 mark? Is there any calibration required? If so, how?

I need help relearning the throttlebody on my 2007 maxima I fallowed all the steps but still not working. I got a new throttle and still a can’t make it work
Nissan did not make this process easy at all for us. It took me a few tries to finally get it too. Just keep trying and if you still can't get it to work, take it into a Nissan dealer, their techs should have a OBD2 tool that can reset the idle speed with the push of a button. Thanks for watching! 👍
Have you fix the tire light bilinking
The sensors in the tires fall out all the time or get ruined all the time. If the low tire pressure is on and all ur tires are where they need to be then you can either A ignore it cuz its just a dumb sensor for tire pressure or you can spend 15 extra at the tire shop to get a new one put in the tire and balanced and such
I have a 2008 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder and my throttle body is not throwing the check engine light but it's been idling high and I've been having problems with it
You may have some unmetered air getting in causing the idle to be high. Check your air intake elbow with the ridges. I found mine torn up in the ridges when doing this project. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍
The first check is the air filter...this crumbles & stuff the intake closed to the point where the car revs but does not idle..
Thanks for the tip 😊
Does this have to be done on a 2014 nissan sentra sv?
I think so. Most (if not all) of Nissan's electronic throttle bodies use this idle reset procedure. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@TrickShiftGarage last question if I already cleared the iac code will it still work?
Think you should write that down
I'm doing this on my 06 Nissan frontier 2.5 with manual transmission, but for some reason i can't hear the throttle body working, with either the new one or the old one, what could be the issue?
Hmmm that's a tough one but sounds like something might be up with your electrical or the lack of power going to the throttlebody, check around for any loose or undone ground wires. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍
Did you found any loose wires etc? I have the same issue with my xtrail t30 manual
Does this work on bluebird sylphy 2007
Hi, I'm not sure if it works on your vehicle but it shouldn't hurt to try it! Nissan used this reset procedure on most of their cars and trucks so it might work. Let us know how it goes 😊
Very crazy long process..can the relearn be done with diagnostic tool
Thankfully yes. Your local Nissan shop should be able to do it. Thanks for watching! 👍
will this work on a 2015 Nissan Altima?
I believe so but not 100% sure. You can try it out, it shouldn't hurt anything. Thanks for watching! 👍
Sorry is this for a rough idle?
I have a 2019 370Z; will this work on the VQ37VHR engine?
Hello! Not sure if it will work on that particular engine as Nissan might have come up with an easier way to reset the idle speed. What I would do is call a Nissan dealership/mechanic shop and see what is involved with getting your idle speed reset. Hope this helps, good luck and thanks for watching 🙂
@@TrickShiftGarage Thanks.
I have a problem with the check engine light that doesn't turn on no matter what. I believe the light bulb may be damaged. So I can't follow the process due to that light since I can't see when it starts blinking or go off 😢
I tried with taking note of the time with a cronometer but still not sure if the process was done correctly. :/
Sheesh, that's a tough spot to be in. I suggest going to your local Nissan shop and letting them reset the idle through a scanner tool and see about the check engine light not working. Hope this helps! 🙂

It could possibly be the ECM. Or check relays and fuses.
Does this work for an Acura rsx?
No, only on Nissans. Check out "Honda throttle body idle reset procedure" there might be something for it. Thanks for watching! 👍
This doesn't seem to be working for my 2020 Versa I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Yeah, it's honestly pretty tricky to do. It took me a few times until I got it to re-learn the idle. If all else fails, a Nissan shop should be able to reset it for you by using an OBD 2 scanner. Hope this helps!
Can it also wrk on manual?
Yes
Tried this 5-6 times, but never got the noise from the throttle body at the start.
Got the blinks lights etc, but just sets idle back to 1250 or so…
This was my experience too. I finally got it to work when I pressed the pedal down 5 times as fast as I could. I know it says 5 times within 5 seconds on the service manual, but just do it as quick as you can and see if that works for you. If all else fails a Nissan service shop should be able to reset using an OBD scanner tool. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!👍
Bought a whole new throttle body & did the procedure and it didn’t work what should I do next?
You can take it to a Nissan dealership and the service department should be able to reset the idle on their scanner. Thanks for watching! 👍
Didn't work for my Nissan Altima Hybrid. You told me it's the same process......mastarrr
It should be, it does take a few times to get it right though. Hang in there and keep trying, if all else fails the Nissan dealership should be able to reset it 😉

Make sure you push the pedal down 5 times quickly, I think that's where I was messing up, it's 5 times within 5 seconds. If it still isn't working you can take it to a Nissan shop and they should be able to reset it for you with their scanner tool. Good luck and thanks for watching! 😊
Its not working for me 😢. I have 2007 altima.
How many time do I have to do it
Well, you should only have to do it once if it's done correctly lol. But honestly it took me a few times to get it down. I think I wasn't pushing the pedal down fast enough when your supposed to push it down 5 times in under 5 seconds. So the time it worked I did it as fast as I could and it went through finally lol. Patience and persistence is key here 😉
Ik my check engine light did flash
Now do I keep holding the pedal while the light flash
Yes, keep holding until it stops flashing. You'll have 3 seconds to start the car once it stops flashing.
For each step where you say “ensure gas pedal is fully released”, are we supposed to have pressed it prior to? Or is there no need to “press and release”, only ensure it’s no pressed when performing the steps that follow?
What's the benefit of the re learn? Also , how the heck did you figure this out??
Hello, Mike! The benefit is a smoother running engine and less gas wasted during idling. My idle was so bad (around 1200) that it even lit the check engine light up saying it was too high lol.
This information was buried in the Service manual, apparently Nissan used the same re-learn procedure for (almost) all of their electronic throttle bodied vehicles at one point. It definitely took me a few times to performing correctly but it's worth it in the end. Thanks for watching! 😊
@@TrickShiftGarage that's awesome , I have a Nissan Altima so thanks for your videos they really help 👍😎👍

Why did you say make sure pedal s all the way up the first few times . You never said to press it so why wouldn't it be up?
What year models does this procedure work on?
I'm not 100% sure but it's been around since the early 2000s on most Nissans.
Cannot hear the throttle body, could it be heard from inside the car???
I couldn't hear it from inside... can always video record it and play it back 😉
old cars yes not all new ones
