Installation of an AWE Quad Tip Exhaust system to enhance the aesthetics and sound of the BMW 428i. This N20, 4-cylinder turbo definitely needed an exhaust overhaul and AWE deliver with beautifully crafted unit! No welding was required and the custom 3D printed, screw-on template allowed me to make a perfect, worry free cutout for the quad tips. The installation is very similar for a 328, 335, or 435. I am very pleased with the result, it looks and sounds great! Here is a link to the unit in the video if you are interested (the same unit can be made to fit a 435, 235, 135 or 428i):
Please consider using my Amazon Affiliates links in the description if you are in the market for one of these! They are direct from AWE (they sell on Amazon) and anyone else you buy from is just acting as a 3rd party reseller and marking them up then drop shipping them from AWE to your door. Buy Direct from AWE via my link on Amazon and get it at a great price with reduced shipping times

awesome, my man u need a video of u driving in the street. GREAT VID
so glad you put this up! pretty interesting to watch and see the process! great vid bro!
+John Smith I'm glad you liked it, I wanted to show that anyone can install these units if they have the tools.
Very good video / good instructions and video. Thank you
Great video!
Great job!
The video really comes in handy.I was thinking how could i fit double dual exhaust in the normal tube + without purchasing another rear bumper..Great video.Appreciated
No need for a rear bumper as seen with the cut in the video. If you ever need to go back to stock you could just buy a new BMW diffuser part for around $100
Cool! Thanks for the vid. Always thought the diff was the center jacking point btw instead of the frame! Good to know for when the summer comes (I got the 435i muffler under mine but need to readjust the tips a bit!)
Hi! How is the 435i stock exhaust on the 428i? Is it as loud as this one? (I don't want it too loud like this one)
So im contemplating between chucking the 435i/335i on or the mpe variant on.
I hope it won't be too loud, even the 428i single dual tips mpe exhaust seems a bit too loud for my liking and what I want, it's too raspy.
Looks good
Great video, thanks!
+Göktuğ Halaçlı Thanks for the feedback! I could not find any detailed, bumper-cut videos so i figured it might help some people feel more comfortable with the job.
Yes, but I think It is called diffuser where you cut.
Nice vid. Thanks for the effort.
I'm not familiar with the AWE setup, but what did you do with the standard exhaust valve plug?
Could you upload a video of it on the street driving as well!:)
Nice
Update -- This same exhaust is installed on a 435 now... It took considerable tweaking but it sounds great!
Great video!
I have a question regarding the fitment on the right side where the cutout in the bumper was made. I had a shop look at my F36 428i N20 for installation of a dual setup (single pipe left and right) but they didn't want to do it since they were skeptical about the fitment. They told me there is a part with the heat shield in the way of where you put the piping for the exit on the right side. Is this a problem you ran in to when installing the exhaust?
Great diy video. I'm a 428i owner and that's one of my goals in the near future. Awe sounds awesome. How much is the exhaust cost.
WOAH.. That sounds so much better than my car :'(
Thanks! Sounds even better on the 435 with the catless DP :D
Good job!
nice
+Yusuf Memon Thanks =] When It gets a little warmer I'll take some external sound clips/ video so it can be heard under load.
Good job mate you just need a new aggressive rear diffuser
I purchased my quad setup with template for my 428i and just had it installed yesterday. I’m very happy with the results I must say. Anyone interested in this setup, I would definitely recommend it. What sold me also was the cutout template.
Thanks for letting us know! It's a great exhaust, lots of BMW guys I've met at meets feel that this is a top contender for best exhaust out there for the 428/435.
Does anyone know if you need a different bumper if you have a non m-sport 428i? Or can you use the cutout template
Congrats man it sounds great!! I want to do the same for mine. Which one from the website is the one you bought? Thanks man

Size and measurements on exhaust tips ?
I did a resonator muffler delete but I want this dual quad set up.
Alex Alejandre same bro
Is it too loud like a muffler delete? I dont want it obnoxiously loud. Thinking of just sallping a 435i muffler on for a little noise/grunt rumble and ofcourse pops
Hi. Do you know that's the diameter of the original pipe tip? Thank you
Does this also work on 428i gran coupe?
would you sell you quad exhaust template
Wait isn’t that an M sport bumper ?
Can’t you buy a rear defuser for a 435i? Isn’t this the same axle back as the 435i or am I just wrong?
Working on rear muffler?
Really considering getting this. Does the sound differ when in eco mode vs sport mode ?
Eco was definitely a bit more subdued. I have this exhaust on my 435i now otherwise I would go out and record some audio samples for you. If you do decide on this unit make sure to get the 3D printed cutout template from them too. It makes the cutout perfectly symmetrical (no guessing). Also, PRETTY please consider our Amazon links in the description (its directly sold by AWE on Amazon). We are currently under their affiliate application process and could use all the referrals we can get!
If you have any other questions on this unit we are glad to help, just post them here! Personally I don't think there is a better looking/ sounding system for this car!
Are those 3.5 tips?
After hearing several different exhaust for the F30 I think this is the one I’m going with. Sounds amazing and I bet the video doesn’t even do it justice! Do you have any drone or vibration in the cabin? Did you notice any kind of performance gain after the install?
No drone after warm up. Sounds better in real life. Performance if hard to judge, perhaps a bit if increasing throttle response. Actually took this unit off and put it on a 435 (but it took a fair amount of modding and welding to get it on the 435!
Hey thanks for the reply. I bet it sounds even better on the 335. How does the weight of the axle back compare to stock on the 328? Lighter/heavier? No drone at all at highway speeds?
Weight seemed about the same as stock, No highway drone.
Did it at all sound “ricey” on your 238? I’ve heard the M performance exhaust in person and I thought it sounded good but it wasn’t much more than stock. I don’t want it too loud or obnoxious though. Just something with an aggressive tone but not over the top.
nah, not ricey IMO but very aggressive. M performance is weak, not worth the $ for the minimal change. Cold start is loud, then it settles into something special.. aggressive as hell at WOT, and very civil under low throttle.
@ModsandProjects this is just the exhaust with out mid pipe setup
Yes, no midpipe, cat back only
Could you buy and fit a bumper with the quad spaces already stock cut?
yes you can, it's a regular difiuser for quad pipes, you can get a lot of different ones on ebay. preety cheap deals tho
Tip size?
Ya same engine. I want custom rear muffler.
What is the brand and the type of your exhaust? I’m definitely gonna buy the same one as yours
Thx bro

Did removing the electronic valve connector cause any error codes? Please respond
electronic valve connector was not disconnected, it was remounted but does not have a valve to open/close anymore.
Does this affect mileage?
yes but it actuall improves your cars proformance depending on the mod by 2 to 10 percent it increase small amount of horspower and little better fuel economy plus sound awesome
Gran Coupe?
So I just brought a 435i exhaust but my 428i bumper doesn’t have a removable diffuser. Do you know where I could get a template to cut the bumper for single dual exhaust not quad?
Only cars whit M package has
How did it go? I'm thinking of doing the same as I fomt want it too loud, I'm just chasing some noise, a lil grunt and some pops and bangs. Like wat a stock m3/m4 would sound like.
Thanks!
Did you install the performance mid pipe from their website?
On this car? And will that make it more louder?
@@williegonzalez1692 no, I did not install it on this car or on the current 4:35 that it is installed on. it was quite loud without the mid pipe the mid pipe would probably make it even louder I would try it without the mid pipe first and add it later if you want higher sound levels
Where did you get the templet?
From here: www.awe-tuning.com/awe-bmw-f32-428-exhaust
Do you still have the bumper cutout template? Willing to buy it!
Dont have it any more, sorry
Haha, Just installed my awe with catless dp. You should make more videos on yours (camera on bumper and driving the car in diffrent modes and rev ranges) :).
Definitely sounds great , but I can’t help but think that putting quad pipes on a 428 really just makes it look like you’re a wannabe M4. What are your thoughts?
I really just don't see it that way (I just liked the look and sound of the quads). This same exhaust has been transferred to the 435 now. The M4 quad exhaust configuration also looks very different as the the pipes are spaced close together. I honestly would have just bought an M4 if that's what i was looking for.
which one did you buy because i have the same car you have and i want to get the one you have exactly.
@t
Could this work on a 420d?
does the kit come with a midpipe?
You can get one with the midpipe too if you like but if you ever do a catless down-pipe you might with you skipped replacing the stock the midpipe. (VERY loud). Anyhow the link for the quad system is: amzn.to/2wP7zAU
any plans to put in a downpipe???
This car was wrecked (not by me) 1 year ago. The exhaust is now on a 435. downpipe and jb4 is on the way.
Full bolt on video is now up (including cat-less downpipe)
Hey bro where did you buy it from
The links are in the description above. Those links are actually AWE selling direct though Amazon (not a 3rd party)
ModsAndProjects thanks men im about to do the same thing to my Car
@@meandmyfamily5183 You will love it!
Hello I wan to install this exhaust on my bmw. I just have a question. How did you make it to fit the exhaust pipe (80mm) into the 328i mid pipe (75mm)? What modification you did. It will be helpful thanks.
The clamp that comes from AWE is pre-built to accommodate both dimensions
Sport diffuser for quad tips on ebay (120usd) 🤔
I guess that could work if your exhaust it horizontally adjustable otherwise you would be taking a gamble with the predetermined cut out locations matching where you are after market exhaust tips are going to land. With the 3D printed template you are 100% certain to be in the exact spot necessary for that particular exhaust
Is this car expensive to maintain?
Not really If you are handy and have some decent tools to work with. All the repair and troubleshooting information you could ask for is out there on the forums and CZcams!
ModsAndProjects what about oil changes and spark plugs water pump etc?
@@autotrimmers6353 the 428 is a 4-cylinder and spark plugs are very inexpensive, they're easy to access on the 4-cylinder.. oil changes on BMW's are very simple, the oil filter has an access port under the front belly pan and you can just use Mobil 1 full synthetic rated at the proper viscosity.
ModsAndProjects thanks bro
I don't think there is a way to make the N20 sound good no matter what you do... great 428i tho, I have one in red.
I think this is pretty much as good as you are going to get out of the 428. I have it on my 435 now with a ER catless DP and it sounds like a beast.
Welds could be better
these 4 pot bimmers sound pretty bad
After adding up stupid mods for 428i..... Should have just gotten a 435i. Smh
Have a 435 now, This AWE will be transferred off the 428 and installed on the 435 this week... Its a bit more difficult on the 435, very tight clearances =/
stupid comment.
gen13pinoy who me? It's better to mod a 428 and spend thousands in stead of just getting 435 that cost that much more anyways?
Hoang Nguyen sure thing, but for others that never plan to mod in the first place when buying their BMW, looking and listening to a exhaust mod on a parking lot and decided to just want that exhaust sound....it is never stupid. btw you said should have gotten a 435i nope your wrong... after moding your 435i now it gone up in price is it. 🙄
Hoang Nguyen im not going to race ya...its just for our ears and enjoyment
awesome video!
