  • Oberheim TEO-5 is another synth I really liked at ‪@superboothberlin‬ . It sounds (and also looks) as the perfect synthwave synth.
    Thanks to ‪@MinimalAudio‬ for making our coverage possible.

    Nice synth, and good demo. Almost been "collecting" new synths for two decades now, I spot a pattern here. Companies put out a lot of new synths these days (there's really not a shortage of options), but generally, when a new synth is announced, it goes something like this: It has two/three oscillators, noise source, a mixer, filter, amp, and a couple envelopes and LFOs. On some synths, some of the basic effects (distortion, chorus, delay, reverb) are thrown in too. And then there's ARP and a little funny step sequencer. Then we get a demonstrator noodling around with some patches, tweaking cutoff and resonance to show how great that synth is.
    So I'm a bit tired of following new synth releases. Each year, we get more of the same (this is generally speaking, I don't refer specifically to the TEO here). So I simply continue making music with what I already have (which is A LOT), instead of replacing old gear with similar new gear. Does anyone need to replace his piano or guitar every two years with the shiniest new piano/guitar?
    I admit that I get GAS too whenever something new is presented, but I really don't know where it's coming from. Synths from 10 years ago are just as capable for music making as today's synths.

      100% agree! To speak with an analogy, one can paint a picture with just 5 colours. I believe that a synth purchase is justified in 3 occasions: very limited or no previous ownership, space constraints (change something big which is usually the case with older synths, with something smaller) and if something breaks and cannot be fixed ( or its no worthy to be fixed). Everything elsa is pure GAS.

      Kinda depends on what your looking for. The smaller Keybed and effects are a boon for playing live with other keyboards. The 16 voices is for sure nice, as is the poly aftertouch, but the effects and thru-zero fm are super handy. I don’t think any other analog poly have true thru-zero fm. Mod matrix is WAY better. Better for sound design in general I’d say. Filters are arguably better though I actually them on both synths. Depends on what you’re needing.

    • @bigjayrillah3508
      @bigjayrillah3508 Před měsícem +5

      @@payt01all of that looks good on paper but in every demo I’ve seen the Uli is lacking some authenticity in the sound department, (some of this has to do with sequential vintage knob), plus you can tell the 5 octave keybed isn’t quite in the same league as the Fatar sequential is using. The other thing to consider is quality control issues with some of behringers recent releases. (Broken pots, switchs, keys and other failures) Sequential on the other hand are highly regarded for their products quality and product support .. maybe if Uli made some 10 year warranty commitment on his synths I would consider the value enough to influence me in that direction.

  • @klstay
    @klstay Před měsícem +9

    Does anyone seriously believe adding 5 more keys and another voice would have raised the price by $2000? Unlike Take 5 with deliberately hamstrung resonance they seem to have "accidentally" made this filter WAY too close to the cash cow OB6. In addition to NOT responding to MPE guess which other zero cost capability will NEVER be allowed by the Focusrite marketing & sales department? Polychain. A 10 voice bi-timbral OB-X at $3k would kill ALL OB6 sales (even some OB-X8) instead of just a fair few as this will.
