  • Talking about my feelings around my history as a former "christian" and religious person and why it no longer is something I believe or align with. The "question authority" and "think for yourself" is quoted by Timothy Leary's teachings.
"To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself."

@@jaden_lindner Souls, why on earth are you all seeking CHRIST among the dead? And the only road (narrow road) to heaven amongst the religions?
And why you all so quick to go and worship in carnal/religious ways?
Is CHRIST not risen? Is not a single soul have gotten saved?
And those mans whom GOD took into heaven, and they did not taste death - you all clam they be in their graves?
GOD is not SPIRIT who calls us all to worship HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH?
Is not GOD calling us to come out from BABYLON, what we keep seeking CHRISTIANITY in the Babylon?
Just in case i say, 1st testament is our past from which to learn, it is no longer the way to live. As we now live under 2nd testament and the future which we too will or shall see is written into the book of REVELATION.
      1st testament = past, yesterday.
      2nd testament = present, TODAY.
The most important thing is to KEEP THE 10 COMMANDMENTS on which our faith is build on. Without keeping the 10 commandments, there be no soul, who is Christian with living faith. We all be then lukewarms with dead faith and still into hellfire we shall go. We complain that nobody learns from the past, then why don´t we learn from the past? What's stopping us from opening the bible and start learning from the past? Pride stop us. Pride and the illusion, a lie which says” we're already educated”.

One of the reasons people misrepresent God / are confused about God is the horrible translation errors in our bibles made by clerks of "a certain denomination".
They had no clue about God's intend, so made it fit their conviction.
Luckely the original line is clearly visible.
1: God created us after His own image and likeness. Gen 1:27.
2: Man fell. That is what you see in this world: lust, greed, selfishness, strange philosophies, sicknesses, corruption, terrorism, death, etc, etc. Genesis 3.
3: God, the spirit of life, manifests fully in Christ, pays the debt for mankinds fall so we can be indwelled again by His Spirit and be transformed back to origin. John 14-17.
Pure grace, love, power of God for His creation.
Hence the divine healing miracles and casting out of demons His first friend, i and many others experience up to this day!
Some examples of these idiotic translation errors.
Saved, from the Greek Sozo actually means: made complete, brought back to origin.
Eternal life from the Greek Zoë means: life of God, divine life.
"You will see Jesus coming on the clouds" actually reads: "You will perceive Jesus from a heavenly perspective"... who He is, what He did, who you are IN Him.
"Everyone not found in the book of life will be thrown in the lake of fire" actually reads: "Everything not found in the book of life....". Every lie we believed about God and ourselves will vanish through Jesus's truth.
Wrath from the Greek Orge means PASSION. So there is no wrath of God upon mankind. God IS love!
Wrath from the Greek Thumos also means PASSION. There goes the "bowls of wrath" poured out by God over humanity... it's "bowls of boisterous PASSION" through Chris that are poured outt!!!
Etc, etc, etc, look it up in the Kittel Theological Dictionary or in any Greek/Hebrew Strong's app. It's there.
So now we have ignorant preachers parotting the lie that we have to be saved from God's wrath by Jesus (who is God....) and "have to repent or go to hell". Utter nonsense.
In stead it is: God restores us through Christ by His own atoning blood sacrifice and indwelling Holy Spirit, from mankind's fall, to His own image and likeness (Christlikeness) because of... passion.
For God so loved the world....
God cannot be tempted to do evil....
There is no turning or shifting with Him....
If you don't love you don't know God, for God is love....
The goal of all instruction is... love
      The Father Himself loves you....
      Jesus healing all..... love
      Jesus raising the dead..... love
      Jesus casting out demons.... love
      Jesus controlling nature..... love
If wrath would be in God, it would be the tenth fruit of the Spirit.... and it is not!
      Etc, etc , etc.

Genesis 3.

      Jesus healing all..... love
      Jesus raising the dead..... love
      Jesus casting out demons.... love
      Jesus controlling nature..... love

Hi Jaden, thank you for sharing your story. I was born as a cradle Catholic and went to Sunday school up to the 5th grade. Then I had Protestant beliefs up to age 25, went New Age for about 3 to 4 years and was directed back to the Catholic Church. What directed me back to God, was an adoration chapel and experiencing the presence of God through the Holy Eucharist located in the monstrance. Today I am a Catholic and want to tell everyone that there is a God and he is very real. There are a lot of people who have questions about God and want to direct everyone to the Catechism of the Catholic Church because there are answers that have been around for centuries. I hope you have an experience with the Lord. God bless.

I was explaining to a friend that I did not believe that little Indian children who died without Jesus would have to go to hell
Then I carelessly asked if that meant that I also was destined for hell?
I was shocked when my “friend” confirmed that indeed I WAS going to hell
It is one thing for a strangers to tell you to go to hell
It is another to have a friend seriously tell you that you ARE going to hell
At that moment I started to think that “if this is what religion is about, I am not interested”

I've come to realize I am not religious but definitely spiritual, to me most beleifs in god or something higher are ultimately the same. I find similarities all the time across the board.
Just like you i was raised none denominational evangelical. I've always always struggled with the idea of Hell. In my family the first question asked if someone died was "were they saved?!" If not my dad would say they were burning in hell. It really scared me and disgusted me that he would say that. I've lived on and off apart of the church as an adult, always searching for the perfect fit, never finding it but that fear kept me in my beleif of the bible. Also fear of disappointing my parents, especially my mom.
Like you, i cannot follow a belief system based in fear. I've always been fascinated and drawn to the occult as well. I think my study of astrology and finding some happiness and fulfillment has helped me overcome some of my fear
I recently told my mom that i don't believe in hell and I'm definitely more of a universalist then evangelical Christian. She is barely speaking to me, considers me so lost.
This has been very hard for me because it has changed the way she sees me and her love for me is all dependant on this fear she has for my soul Which is so overwhelming her she cannot love me the same. I of course love my mom. It's getting to me, i try hard to stay positive but there's this deep sadness there.

That mis-understanding may have come in via pagan religions. I believe the Seventh-day Adventists have a good grasp of the true understanding of ‘hell’. Blessings

It's painful to see so many Christians being influenced by the hypocrisy of other Christians not living the life. Please, many are leading double lives, they're not necessarily saved if they think they are..People are confused about this issue bc many believe once saved always saved..Please, Jesus Christ is real, heaven and hell really do exist in the spirit world. Sin is real, it is defiling. Even if we look at the world and people, it erodes and causes so much on a mass scale and individual. Demons are real and they're prominent in society. Those in fame work with dark powers and know it is real, it is hidden from the world.
Please, Jesus Christ is very real and everyone will know this. Don't fall for the traps, demons insert thoughts in your mind to take you away from the faith. They literally come up with a customized plan for each human so people don't really ever know God. Please cry out and seek while there's still time, everyone will know this is true for certain just moments after they pass, but it is too late if people die in their sin. Sin cannot be allowed in heaven, it would corrupt it and no longer be heaven.

I was born in muslim country. But i have lived in skandinavia all my life and my family are not religious., we believe in being Good with everyone and thats all. I met this Christian guy and he came to my work all the time. He was very charming and sweet at the beginning. once he wanted to meet me so we met up. after a while he was so weird. Very jealous and controlling. He would say that my spirit attacks him and that he cant be with a woman without marriage. I said thats cool i respect that. Then He asked me to marry him only if get Christian. He said i have to submit to him. Asked him what He mean about submit? He said that i should do Everything and agree with what he wanted from A wife. I said hell no thats abuse and controll. He later on started to say i am a devil because i dont believe in Jesus and that i Will go to hell. I Got so depressed from him all i did was be Nice to him. He turned out so evil and Everything was a sin for him. Later on i found out he is scizofrenic and had been in mental hospital all his life. He was a hypocrite And now im scared of Christian people. Very jugdemental and crazy.

My experience is very similar to yours. I now believe questions are always good. If anyone tries to suggest to me that I shouldn’t ask questions or explore other ideas - about anything (that doesn’t advocate harming anyone) - I now believe that is a bad sign. I decided that if I ever get confused, love and kindness are always the most important things - and are sufficient guides, in themselves. I don’t think you can go wrong if love is the priority, and that necessarily includes treating others the way you would like to be treated. An example of one change in my thinking: in regard to homosexuality, I was always taught to hate the sin but love the sinner, and that that attitude was a loving one (and I think there also was an undercurrent of belief that that attitude was generous of us). It is so common-sense clear to me now that that attitude was so insulting and condescending - just gross - so unkind. And completely none of my business to be making judgements on a personal choice that is harmful to no one. Today, it’s mortifying to me that I believed and helped propagate that idea into the world, even in a small degree.

LaMesa Cole Well, just like I would treat heterosexual people. That would include wishing them well in marriages or partnerships or having children. Being ok with public affection with one another to the same degree as I am with heterosexuals’ actions. Including their significant others in get-togethers. Abstain from thinking or suggesting they adhere to any particular dogma. But in addition, I now use my voice and vote to try to influence equal protections under the law and in society, since I think there is still progress that needs to be made.

Anonymous authors of the gospels. None of the original manuscripts of any of the four gospels exist. The four gospels were written by those who were not eyewitnesses decades after the alleged events. We don't have the original manuscripts of any of the four gospels. The earliest complete new testament manuscript is 'Codex Sinaiticus' from mid 4th century. Are you kidding me? So, fucking late. The earliest of the manuscripts we have are fragments without the titles. We don't even know who wrote most of the New Testament. Much of the New Testament seem to be blatant forgeries. No evidence of earth coming into existence as a result of an incantation spell (Earth formed naturally as a gradual gravitational concretion 4.6 billion years ago). No evidence for glorious creation. Adam and Eve didn’t exist. Evolution is a fact. There is overwhelming evidence for evolution from every relevant field of study like paleontology, anthropology, embryology, homology, molecular biology etc. That is why evolution is hailed as the backbone of modern biology and creation is literally a refuted, discarded and forgotten fairy tale that has been collecting dust for 161 years. Evolution disproves creation. We share a common ancestor with the great apes that lived 7 million years ago and chimpanzee being our closest living relative. (Genetically 97-98 percentage similar to us) (Evolution undermines the creative genius of God even if he had been superintendenting evolution as some theistic evolutionists argue. The only purpose of evolution is adapting and surviving by adjusting and compromising). Life as we know it most likely didn't require a God to come into existence. As a result of our ever improving understanding of abiogenesis, we are closer than ever before at finding out how the first self-replicating RNA molecules formed from non living matter. Our universe didn't come into existence out of nothing. Our space-time started expanding 13.8 billion years ago from a hot and dense singularity. Matter and energy existed before that. If something has to be eternal it could be the energy. That’s all the big bang theory accounts for. It doesn’t suggest the universe came from nothing. There is no evidence of anything before the singularity. The big bang was also not an explosion (as typically distorted by apologetic charlatans) but an expansion.
Also, the earth was formed 4.5 billion years ago. What took God so long, why didn’t he create earth first? What was he doing for 9.3 billion years in between the universe’s expansion and earth’s formation? Too many problems for the theistic worldview. Wake up. Get over your delusions. Ignorance and incredulity is no longer an excuse. Can’t believe there are still people who believe in these bronze age fables by ignorant, superstitious and primitive savages and regard it as absolute truth despite all evidences to the contrary. There is simply no evidence for any of the fables in the Bible. Stop wasting your life believing in those impossible absurdities.

From what I was taught when I was going to church, doing bible study etc... was that god was all good, all knowing and all powerful. While yes slavery was normal back then, we now know it’s wrong. The thing that really gets me is why, If god is once again all good, powerful and knowing, did he let slavery continue on? If god knows it’s wrong why wouldn’t he put a stop to it? I know you claim that the slaves were treated as people but they sure weren’t free. In my eyes, there is absolutely no justification for slavery, people are taken from all they’ve ever known, family, friends, they’re homes. Whether they were treated with decency is irrelevant because they weren’t free to leave, they didn’t choose that life. Me personally, if I was robbed of everything I ever knew and loved, even if I was given food and a place to sleep and treated decently enough, I would one: never be able to forgive the people that took me and two: would never be able to enjoy a life like that. Just because they weren’t treated like dirt doesn’t mean it was right, they weren’t free. Yeah, totally get that. So true.
People in Christianity talk about how God is love, and he loves you and his love is unconditional as well, but at the same time they also tell you that you're gonna go to hell for not doing what you're supposed to do.
It's honestly really messed up, and so backwards.
This religion isn't at all what the Christians crack it up to be.

I hope I get there. I'm trying but scared. I was raised in a strict Pentacostal church, then switched to Baptist as a young adult. I had too many questions and would immediately get shut down or ridiculed or lectured into forcing myself to believe again. I went to church until a few years ago. Just like you, constantly fear driven. What if... But I couldn't silence my unanswered questions and I don't want to live in fear.
The fear embedded in me almost feels like psychological abuse. A conditioning. Even mind control at points. It was "Do this OR else..." There was no choice. I felt so judged for seeking answers and not just accepting what was written in the Bible or being lectured to me. I'm terrified of Hell, as I was raised to be. I am terrified of "going against" church or even simply disconnecting. I can't tell my family I'm "losing my religion" (for lack of a better phrase) and I'm 35 years old, but my parents/family would still freak. It IS very much a "we vs they" mob mentality, and it makes me sad. I've seen too many Christians first-hand be so hypocritical on what they say they believe versus what they do in their daily lives and how they treat and judge people. The fear and the pressure made me constantly feel nauseated. I felt obligated. I felt I wasn't allowed to question the Bible and what was wrong in it, and I felt mentally sick to question- like even having thoughts of questioning it would send me straight to hell. I questioned how the church picks and chooses what to use in the Bible and what to ignore. (Like the 1st half completely, the Old Testament.) And even things in the New. Too much wrong and mistreatment and contradictions for me to simply accept.
I'm stuck between disbelief in Christianity, having a possible belief in a higher power, the in between, and the absence...like I'm in a dryer flipping around. But I have questions and I cannot NOT seek answers. I've been doing research on my feelings seriously for over 2 years but have questioned my faith since I was a pre-teen.
I just want to say THANK YOU for your story and to everyone who sees my comment and UNDERSTANDS. People like you guys have not judged me. You have shown me more empathy and compassion than most christians. It's comforting to know I am not alone, and many others have been where I am.
So, my story: I am STILL searching and slowly rediscovering myself and reducing what I know as fact against what I know from conditioning. I still have my weak moments... like when things go very wrong, or my friend (who just passed) was in a coma in ICU, my gut reaction was to beg and pray...and even as I did so, I found myself questioning the importance. Was it to make me feel better? Was it training? And most importantly, whether I prayed or not, would the outcome be any different? And I realized, even as I felt GUILTY realizing it (bc conditioning/brainwashing is a son of a bitch) that it wouldn't. Forcing myself to acknowledge I didn't have control of these outcomes, whether I prayed or not, was a bit liberating.
Then I thought back to how many other times I prayed for something, a different outcome, throughout my life and didn't get it, and more things began to click. My mind goes on spirals. Just yesterday, at my friend's wake, I kept hearing over and over by everyone around me, "God knows things we cannot" and "God had a plan" and "He's in God's hands now" and so forth, and I wanted to scream. It's become shockingly aware to me that people are set in default mode that when something shitty happens that we don't understand or cannot accept, the answer is seemingly "Just trust in God. It's all up to God."...and it made me feel sick. I have witnessed all my life people using God as a CATCH ALL for things we as humans can't or won't accept; because after all, God is a more pleasant excuse than We Don't Know or Can't Explain Otherwise. I'm ANGRY. The more I research and discover, work to rewire my brain, the more angry I get.
Yes, I'm still "in the closet" with my family and friends because 99.9% of them were raised as I was (strict religion) or led by blind faith and they don't WANT to seek answers beyond this because it's more comforting to them. They don't want to reason. So I'm left in the dark, solely on my own, digging myself out of this mud, and STILL feeling guilty about the what-ifs. What if what I'm doing is wrong? What if I am situating myself into a one-way seat that sends me straight to hell for even considering and questioning? But the problem is, I can't stop. It eats at me when I do. It keeps me awake. It rotates in my mind everytime someone brings up God or religion and my first instinct now is to cringe instead of find comfort. I can't help myself.
The more things don't make sense, the more I realize what was done to me all of my life, the more I need to research. I can't sit idly by and accept things as I'm being told or preached at anymore. I want to know for myself. Does that make me immoral? Does that make me plagued? Does that make me selfish? I don't know. But the fact that I can't stop the way I'm feeling and questions I seek out tells me I may be onto something, and i cannot shake that. And I've tried. I've tried going back to living under a rock, and truthfully, i hate it. I hate that I can't stop questioning or cringing...but I also trust myself in acknowledging that must mean something.
I know I'm babbling, but yes, it is where I'm at - digging through the muck.
If ANYONE has any recommendations for me, be in on CZcams or a book or movie, whatever, please - I'm all ears.
Thank you for caring about me and this update. It means more to me than I can express.
    I'm scared I'm wrong,
but I'm also scared I'm right.
I just want to feel free to choose. Actually free. Perhaps if we were allowed to be love-driven versus fear-driven, I'd consider things differently. But we aren't and never will be. 💔

Angela, that was a very moving account of the mind control that you have been subjected to, you are absolutely right to question everything.
Here is a little thought experiment for you.
Imagine that when you were one week old your parents had put you up for adoption and you had been adopted by a Buddhist couple and had been brought up as a Buddhist. You would now be convinced that when you die you will be reincarnated and that you need good Karma to get a good 'next' life.
You would have absolutely NO concept or fear (terror) of the Christian hell and your mind would be free of all the poisonous nonsense that now plagues you. You would of course believe all the Buddhist nonsense instead. You are simple a product of the broken system of your society.
I hope that you continue to fight the injustice that your terrible religion has dumped on you.

Hello, Angela! I just wanted to say how much I admire your courage and strength in not only your struggle, your honesty with your self, but also in your choice to share this struggle. I also want to assure you that you're not alone. Check out a CZcams channel called The Thinking Atheist with Seth Andrews, the man was a former Christian broadcaster who was where you are and has a great many listeners that he tries to help through the process. I recommend him because he does not tell his listeners what to believe but coaches them to be true to themselves.
I also recommend him because...well, I need to explain, I've been an atheist (with maybe a bit of a spiritual bent) all my life but have always shied away from the atheist community. Every time I looked into them, all I found was anger. And I understand that anger, I was that point myself for a number of years. Some of that anger comes from the way atheists are treated, (waves hand), and for some it's the residue of having been the follower of a specific religion - the feelings of betrayal, of having been lied to, coerced, even abused through fear. Seth Andrews caught my attention for being more positive. He's worked through that anger, but he knows it well. I think he might have something to offer you. Many of his listeners similarly have family and community they feel they cannot come out to.
I'm not sure that I do...I have my own ideas, of course, but I'm not you - and that's kinda the point. Be true to your own values. Trust your instincts and your intellect. You're not rejecting a faith just to have someone else mold who you become. Andrews says something along the lines of having explored what he doesn't believe until he realized that he is not defined by what he DOESN'T believe - he has to understand and embrace the values that DO mark who he aspires to be.
I don't have any idea what's out there, whether or not there is such a thing as an afterlife. I'm okay with not knowing. It would be nice to think there's something more if only because "being" is the only state I've ever known, it's hard to imagine not being as it cannot be experienced. It's a non-experience. I don't believe there's a god or gods out there, and that's also not the same question as following the vision offered by any organized religion. For that, it's a matter of conscience: even if I believed, I could not follow a faith that violates my moral values. If I'm to be punished for that, I will accept it with a clear conscience. To do otherwise is repugnant to my very being.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Take care, I know you can work your way through all of this. You have NOTHING to feel guilty over. You are who you are. Whatever conclusion you ultimately reach (if any - it's okay not to!), value your self.

Thanks for your honesty, open mindedness. I was raised a Roman Catholic but stopped practicing that denomination of Christianity along time ago. I have never read the Bible cover to cover or got into big time study, but I have read books of the Bible, sometimes a few times. I would say now, I'm 60 yrs. old, that I'm more of an agnostic than a Christian. Tapestry! The tapestry of the world's cultures is a wonderful thing. Having an open mind, and embracing the various cultural differences, makes for a more peaceful existence, as compared to closed minded tribalistic, egocentric mind construct. Coexistence is more, "Christian ", to me than a, " if you don't walk like us, talk like us, think like us, worship like us...etc...etc mind set.
Especially now, towards the end of 2020, this, " my way or the highway", thinking is way out of hand. Being one species...human...does not mean no individuality. Our very nature, the life force, the spirit, the soul, whatever name you want to give it, is in all of us. Coming from the same source. It's just in differing vessels. Male vessels, female vessels. Light skin pigments or darker pigments. Tall, short, blonde or brunette...etc...etc. Even in nature. The same life force. It's the force that powers a stars burning, the gravitational forces. This force...you can call it God, Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah or the great I AM. We are it!! I AM that I AM is such a great statement of being secure in who you are! No judgment, just acceptance. I love the diversity of our world, of our species! Embrace...not hate. Peace.

I was raised church of Christ.
Got saved and went regular. Never too involved other than normal service. Rarely did I do much religiously on my own.
At 16 I had a bad break up with my first heartbreak. Before things fell apart I prayed for it to work out. It didnt but before that other things crept in my mind. Like how the majority of my church were old jerks with non biblical yet justifies views. Also noticed all were rich and we were a dirt poor family.
So the break up happens and that began a cascade of doubts. I went agnostic for about 2 years.
Went back to faith after gramps died. Stayed with it about 10 years loosely.
Then over dosed on my medicine amd went to rehab. There I was told addiction is a disease and I had no choice. Yet I belived in a God of free choice. The words echoed in my mind "made sick commanded to be cured".
Then I slowly deconverted for about a year. Slowly those skeletons in closets crept out. Those unanswered questions came back. So I took off my God glasses and studied the bible. Boi that did a lot.

I found truth and comfort in my spirituality, once I abandoned all religion and found my spirituality everything started to make sense and feel right. I found Karma and chakras, tarot, past lives and reincarnation to be absolutely true after tons of research and soul searching. I left religion when I was younger. The church was a very toxic/ abusive place/ mindset/idea for me growing up. I was an atheist and agnostic.... The reason I believe in Jesus now is because I realize I misjudged Him and His word based on religion, other Christians aka other flawed people, church traditions and trauma I was experiencing.... God is actually love... that realization, His love is what keeps me now. When I have the feeling of not wanting to be a Christian (it still happens ) I remember I need to allow God's love to touch what ever part of my heart is rejecting His love. I'm not perfect at it but God doesn't change if He was love yesterday He still is today. @@jameswittmann1608 hey James! From your comment it seams that you are a very passionate individual. That is supper cool.
Is there a main point that you are trying to communicate? You touched on so many topics it is difficult to know what to reply to. Since posting this comment six months ago I have been doing an insane amount of research and soul searching and I would actually push back on a few of your points. I believe that it is harmful to think that we are inherently wicked and that without God we are somehow hopeless. You talk like are all doomed to eternal torment without the saving grace of Jesus. Firstly, I am calling bull on that. How do we even know that there is any hell or an afterlife? Second, if what you are saying is true i see things a bit different. You say that Jesus is a parachute to save us from an inevitable doom that we rightfully deserve. I would say that in this scenario Jesus is more like a masochist who pushed you out of a plain without a parachute and will let you plummet to your to your death unless you worship him for how awesome he is for letting you live. You say that we deserved to be on the cross for our sins and that Jesus took our place. I say that no one deserves to be crucified. If God has the ability to forgive sins why would he be so insecure as to first need worship from people? If God has the ability to save people from eternal torment then why would he need a human sacrifice in the first place? Because God's justice rage needs to be satisfied? So his big plan is to murder his son to satisfy his own blood lust?
James, you think that we are all inherently wicked and without hope without God. I see that your beliefs are strong. That is all that it is though, just a strong belief that does not hold up under scrutiny. Are you a perfect person? Probably not. But I would wager that you have better morals than the God of the Bible. If random people were plummeting to their deaths and you had the power to save them would you require arbitrary proclamations of faith before saving them? I thought that salvation was complete on the cross. If a proclamation of faith is required before that salvation is applied then the work was not actually completed on the cross.

My experience with church and Christianity was similar to yours, which is why it took until age 30 to really feel comfortable with asking those hard questions and getting answers that took me away from faith. I moved in my early 20's so my connection to my church community began to sever, but I still found new christian family to join, however it allowed me to start asking some questions of myself and my faith. I had asked them before even as a young teen, but was afraid of the answers. I'm 10 years out of it now and trying to raise my kids to think for themselves, but my wife is christian and they still attend church. But I hope they don't derive their identity from it, like I did.

    Hi Jaden,
I myself have NEVER been religious, neither will I ever be. My dad is a Christian but he never pushed it on me and he accepts and loves everyone. Because he's originally from the West Indies, all his family have been brought up having religion instilled into them from an early age. Because I'm British, I thankfully didn't have that pushed on me. I went to Sunday school a few times and liked it, but even at around 7 or 8, I knew that what I heard and read were all just stories (especially the more fantastical elements of The Bible). I knew this was fake before I even knew Santa Clause wasn't real!
My dad doesn't go to church now (especially now he's got health issues) but he's not particularly religious either, more spiritual. And that's the thing; I have zero problem with Spirituality and I myself do think that there could well be a higher power or whatever that is behind the scenes. But religion? Now that's just a man made construct and unfortunately it's arguably the single biggest detriment (or at least one of) to mankind and it's continual evolution. And I personally have to commend you on managing to sit through that sermon with that pastor doing the whole fire and brimstone shtick. I would have been up and out of there, screw that!

I liked your honesty - you didn't pretend like some people that Christians are 'evil' and terrible people, but you admitted that there are things you enjoyed about Christian fellowship and that you still appreciate now, those nice relationships of caring for one another.
In my view, based upon your video, you still are a Christian and a more caring and mature one than you were before. 'Hate' is not a part of the gospel of Jesus, nor is disliking other people because they have different views from Christians. As Christians we're called to follow the gospel of caring for others, not judging them or criticising them - that isn't part of the gospel. Having faith in Jesus is not 'religion'. Its trusting the one who left an empty tomb and was seen resurrected by over 500 people. As for life after death, there are so many reports of near death experiences, which contain elements which cannot be explained, except by some form of spiritual experience, that we should know enough at this present time, to say that we cannot rule consciousness beyond death, out. Personally, I'm convinced that experiences of near death historically form part of the biblical narrative.
The heart of the gospel of Jesus is not 'fear of Hell', but love of God and of other people.

I am not in any way trying to criticise you so please don't take it that way haha I would just like to share my perspective too :) I respect your opinion, just wanted to share a little bit. I don't think that hell is this place that God sends people to suffer forever because they were not 'good enough'. Heaven, is a place where someone can spend all eternity in the presence of God. Hell is the absence of God's presence. "Sending" someone to hell is not about God making people suffer, it's about honouring that person's decision in life not to follow God. It would actually be unjust and unloving if God forced people to go to heaven and live in His presence if they did not want to. This does not make hell any less bad. I think that being out of God's presence, the One who loves us so deeply and adores us, is hell. But I just wanted to share a bit of my perspective, as opposed to the traditional "fires of hell". I think that that imagery of fire and flame is a symbol or representative of the suffering that exists outside of the presence of God. It's not about God being vindictive and causing people to suffer. It says in the Bible that God WANTS all people to be saved and live with Him. That is why He saves us by grace, to make the way free for us to come to Him. He does not want His children to go to hell, but if they choose not to be in relationship with him, he honours their decision even if it is hard for him.

When God created the earth it was perfect. When God created man, he was perfect and innocent. Man disobeyed God and sin entered into the world and death by sin, so death is passed upon all men in that all have sinned. You can reject God if you wish, but the Bible states in John ch. 3 v 18 that you are condemned already because you do not believe. God loves you and sent His Son to die to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. He offers you His mercy and salvation in grace to prevent you going to a lost eternity in hell and the Lake of Fire. Hell was for the devil and his angels, not for mankind. Do not forget, God is a Holy God and hates sin, as well as a God of Love. That is why God has made provision for you in His Son, Jesus Christ.

The holy spirit during that time told me to have faith & reminded me of the book of Job. God allowed Satan to attack Job by killing his family & causing depression on Job. Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. We KNOW these laws. We have NO doubts about them. We also KNOW that the laws of nature can't come about without a Lawgiver, God.
Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis.

My heart is soo with you. For me it was the list of "Do's and Don'ts" that made me feel inadequate and further away from God. Finally I decided to leave church, not saying everyone should, but I needed to be uninfluenced and started studying the New Covenant on my own. See in the beginning I was sold out on the unconditional love and safety in the Saviour. Although having good intentions, when churches preach law it becomes a whole legalistic religious organization that robs us of our true identity and freedom in the true Gospel.
What I found is that religion says "Fix yourself and God/we will accept you" while the original Gospel says "Come just as you are and I will give you righteousness/(okayness) as a gift". Religion says "You have to work hard to stay forgiven and right" while the true Gospel says "With a single sacrifice I have made you perfectly accepted and irreversibly forgiven for ever". Religion says "You have to work to get close to God" the Gospel says "You cant get closer to your Father as He is in you and you are in Him". Religion says "God is in love with a future version of you" while the Gospel of Grace says "Dad loves you as you are right now unconditionally and is NEVER GOING TO CHANGE in this irreversibly restored relationship". Religion says "You are not good enough" and the true Gospel of Grace says "You are fully accepted, with a new heart which is righteous, holy and blameless. That's your identity, now live from your heart and be yourself". Religion is a bunch of rules to follow as a prerequisite to acceptance versus the Gospel of Grace providing immediate acceptance which will produce the "works" over time, but is secondary to the "Work Christ did". This reveals a bit of what I found please see this link for more: czcams.com/video/RHxbZEwbhHg/video.html
This is 8 years later, in the mean-time I started a small bible study group where everyone is on the same level and unconditionally accepted, where their opinion is valid and important.
    God's love.

I grew up in a evangelical church, as well and I had no other option as a child but to attend and sometimes 6 days a week for various activities. My dad was a lay church leader in every church we attended and his faith and expectations for us to believe like him dominated our family. Yet as a child I learned to read before even kindergarten and I read my mom’s book club fiction (not science fiction). Even this fiction reflected the writers’ backgrounds in various religious faith traditions. I learned that humans make efforts to grasp the concept of death and the questions of why we are born and our purposes in life and it became clear to me that efforts toward religion are simply human efforts to cope with the idea of death and the life, if it could possibly continue on after death. One would think that if there was a God there would be a clear message where humans don’t have to flail around in competing faith concepts in order to find peace.

I am simply a believer. I prefer to see what is written, and also the experience God gave me. A New Born is always against evil itself, not against people. Fearing God doesn't mean to be scared of Him, just to simply respect Him like a child respects his father. And just like that a right father punishes his son when he does not behave, yet the son is never condemned. Faith must come out of Love and by having Faith we put our trust in God. We as people need each other. This is what God taught me, that we all have the life given by God, and God is our Father in the sense that He gave us life. So even an atheist should always be treated as a human, and faith is a choice. I recommend you the Book of Urantia. And if you read the Book of Urantia, you can compare it with the Bible if you want to. I'm very happy that you didn't loose your faith. This opens the doors for your Salvation, so that the Spirit of Truth be the only guide for you in your life. God is not a religion, because He is way above. Blessings.
