- Talking about an easy way to get into selectively hitting strings and using moveable shapes on guitar that we don't talk about early enough for beginner's. Make it easy! Special thanks to@CortGuitarCo for sponsoring this video, check out the Cort Gold A6 here:

A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his CZcams channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Even if I weren't trying to learn guitar, I'd watch your videos for the entertainment and comedic value. Thanks Sean!
Power minor chords, mind blown, so obvious duh, thanks man.
Happy to help!
paint that nail emerald green
Thank you so much for this..I'm resly excited about this ❤️
Dude, you're the coolest! I love your lessons, even if half of them go way over my head! thanks and keep 'em comin!
Another stellar video, Sean. I learn something every time I watch one of your videos, whether or not its guitar related and I needed to know it. 😆
I was searching YT for someone with a dead disgusting fingernail to teach me guitar and ended up here at justin beavers cousin's channel. great info thanks.
You’re finally home
Sean you're the best!
dude! excellent video thanks for sharing
Thanks Sean!
A very good beginner lesson Sean.
I do wish this was my first guitar lesson. So much easier. A couple months ago, I just had a major breakthrough figuring out that the third an octave above on E string rooted chords is just 4 strings down, on the G string, the same fret as the root, if it is minor, and one fret higher if it is major. This is so obvious, but getting the root down low, and then the third an octave above leaves all kinds of room, for the whole arrangement, or for diatonic spicy notes. The key being the same as this video, getting that root emotional dyad ratio, of either a major third or a minor third. That relationship really does give the basic emotional vibe of the chord. I don't think major or minor, I think up or down. Ups are major and minors are down. So when I'm writing progressions, I may want to go down down up down as the emotional path of the harmony.
The thing about playing the third an octave above, it leaves more room for your fingers on the fretboard, AND it helps connect the high string side of the neck to the low string side of the neck. Like if you know your E string notes and A string notes, you've got your G and B string notes, and the high E is the same as the low E, so for me, it totally sorted out the whole neck for me with just that one concept!
Really was a breakthrough. That's why I wish this vid was the first guitar lesson I watched! Would have saved me years of mucking about always playing the 5th!
amazing
Such a good helpful lesson! Thank you! It's easy to get lost in "But until I'm comfortable with a Dm13 I can't really play songs" and forget about making music. (By the way, can Cort send you a Cut Craft, please? I'd love to see your review on that one!)
You bring music to life. I hope this isn't your only outlet.
Thank You...Wish I heard this 2 years ago
I'm going camping for the first time in quite awhile with one of my students. I realized I don't own a proverbial 'camp fire guitar', or at least one I'm willing to 'expose to that duty'. LOL Then I remembered you playing a 'Cort', and I thought I remembered you saying it was $179. Cool says I, sounded good apparently played ok, I'm in. Then I went looking, and I was a tad shocked at the price, $949.99?!?! No wonder it sounded that good!! There is a lot of competition at that price point! Including the top of the line Taylor GS-mini Koa w/expression 2 system!! Just saying, I guess I heard you wrong!! Bad on me!! --gary
Debbie Harry, Ray Liotta, John Lennon, …. All adopted Sean, keep on rockin in the free world 🎶✌🏼
Hey Sean can you please do a Dave Matthews style guitar lesson 🙏🙏
thanks for the video I see you still have your smashed finger!
Hey Sean, where has Syndie Jo been? I miss seeing her on this channel. She's been my favorite ever since she sang my Mars Argo request on the livestream you two did together.
sweet, your hitting on all cylinders my man....thanks
Worthwhile! Thank you.
As usual, thank you for the good beginner guitar lesson. Sometimes it is easy to forget the basics and it takes a lesson to bring it all back to you. I probably should take your Complete Guitar Fretboard Mastery class again too ;-).
If only someone would have shown me this 60 years ago, I might not suck at guitar playing today.Same goes for 3 note triads on the high strings.
When I'm not busy showing off with dexterous complexity I enjoy getting in the groove with some shapely simplicity! Cheers Sean!!
Awesome lesson! Are you planning on doing any more of the guided practice sessions? They were so good!
Just had to stop the video and say, "You are soooo funny. Bust a gut with paperwork." Back to the lesson...
Of course two notes can make a chord! (Just like with a power chord, deliberately eliminating the third interval.) It just ain't a full triad, but it's a harmonized chord all the same.
I’ve got that shirt in red. That’s what I took from this video. Xo, Daniels. Xo.oOooOoooOOOO. Also, I’m pretty sure this is how Conor Oberst learned guitar.
Interesting and useful. Thanks. I'm a beginner who's already learned 8 of the basic chords using the traditional fingering but videos like this make me realize I'm never going to get good until I understand the musical alphabet (to employ Sean's term) and how it relates to the neck. I sort of feel now like I did back in math class when I learned stuff like the quadratic formula, where I could plug values into the right place in the equation and get the right answer but never truly understood what I was doing and why it worked. I'm pretty sure there's an aha moment RE the neck that I need to have before I'm going to advance.
Give me that guitar🎸
I was adopted. After my adopted parents passed, I looked for records of my adoption. Being in 1952, and all "paper", they were somehow lost, for the better I think. 8) For ground_0 beginners, I suggest a guitar with a shorter scale. A Taylor GS Mini is an excellent choice. The shorter scale requires less effort(pressure) on the neck to fret strings. Then starting with an open A chord, move up to B with 3 strings, then C etc. Object being to be able to play a simple song, get almost some instant satisfaction from playing and encourage practicing!! Wew, sorry for the rant, of sorts. 8( JMHO --gary
100 like !
by the way whoever got lucky enough to adopt you was very lucky!!!!
harmonizing with dyads
WTF you do to your finger m8? I hate cutting and smashing my hands. The doc thinks " five stitches" I think two weeks no guitar.
